Does Having A Criminal Record Affect Me Becoming An Engineer

Is it possible to be an engineer with a criminal record?

Of course you can be an engineer with a record. Colleges do not check criminal records that I know of.

The real question, which you should be asking, is: can an engineer get a job as an engineer with a record?

And that depends on the company. The are all different, but many don't give a damn. But it depends on the offense.

next question is: should you be upfront in a job interview and mention this, or keep it secret, hoping there will be no check made. You have to make that decision, but I'd tend towards the first.

Will my parents criminal record affect me?

It won't affect you directly, but as a Jr., some people may mistake your father's record for yours. It may be useful to explain the situation up front.

How can I become a Police Officer I was a Combat Engineer in the Army?

Jacob, I'm calling your bluff. You've never been to Fallujah and you're not in the Army. You know it's very easy to track your questions, and this one really explains things:

You're leaving for Basic in December, eh? Nice try, buddy. That's extremely dishonorable to claim you were in a battle where soldiers actually fought and died. You need to take a long look at yourself, kid.

I also really like this one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
That's not the kind of question a "trained killer" asks.

Listen, Jacob, reposting your question to get an answer that you WANT to hear isn't productive. Police Departments don't need "trained killers," that's not what being a cop's about. I already answered your last question, I'll re-post it:

Unfortunately, your MOS has absolutely no impact on being hired onto SWAT. Police Departments want to know that your discharge is honorable- that will give you a leg up on civilians. You'll receive veteran points on the police written test (+10%). You'll then have to pass a physical examination, psychiatric evaluation, polygraph test, background investigations (regardless of military security clearances), and several interviews. Once you're hired on the police dept., you'll have to prove yourself as a Patrolman before you'll be invited into SWAT.

As for studying for the Police Exam, the best thing you can do is study an SAT guide, you'll find it very similar to the SAT's. Also, many cities offer test preparation courses free of charge, I suggest you go to one.

Edit: I suggest you read "Nick's" reply carefully. He makes an extremely good point.

Best of luck.

Will a DUI prevent me from getting an engineering job? It was my first offense 3 years and was a misdemeanor.?

It happened when I was 21 and I just finished college. I recently received a job offer two days ago and the offer is contingent upon a successful background check. The company's application asked if I had ever been convicted of a felony to which I replied "no" which was the truth. Does anyone think that upon seeing my misdemeanor, the offer will be rescinded and will be a potential deal breaker? Or is the company probably just looking for felony convictions? I am losing my hair stressing over this. If it is, do most companies allow you to explain how you've learned from past mistakes and have succeeded since? or do they right away take the offer away. The job is an office job doing design work, little to zero travel involved. Every opinion is appreciated.

Apprenticeship at a car deapership with a criminal record?

Hi there,

Im 28 years old and have studied mechanical engineering. I decided at age 26 to change my career and become a technician because i love working on cars and with my hands.

At age 20 I was out with friends, had a few drinks and got caught in a roadblock, and alas, I now sit with a criminal record like I m some psychotic thieving serial killer (at least thats now how Im judged).

Ive applied for apprenticeships all over at different dealerships and had some luck with Porsche (hows that lol). Ive got really far so far with them, had 2 interviews, done 2 aptitude tests and did well, and Ive now had to do 7 other online assessments. I also had to then do fingerprint readings for backround checks and was asked if I had a record, to which I said no.

People are probably going to say I was dishonest and therefore will be turned away. But let me ask you...do you blame me? I am judged instantly already just because I have a record. I have changed since my younger years and barely even drink anymore except rare occasions, I quit smoking etc. How is it fair that this minor incident must hold me back from persuing a career for the rest of my life...I just dont think its fair.

So my question is...do dealerships overlook this type of thing at all or is there a no criminal policy when it comes to hiring employees?

Thanks
Regards
Chad
