I am 16. Should I take HGH to grow taller?
I would advise against it. The possible benefit (a couple inches at most) aren’t worth the cost and frankly risk. You can get cheap HGH, sure, but do you really want something “cheap” (read: made without quality controls and of unknown and unknowable purity) interacting with your brain? If you were extremely short - to where it was possibly going to be an actual handicap (< 5′/152cm for example) you could probably get a Dr to sign off on a therapeutic regimen that might be covered by insurance. If, like me, you’re just going to end up shorter than average, and have to put up with the b.s. that taller kids dish out for a few years, you’ll find its not as bad as you might think and once you’re out of school literally no one will care about your height. So, at best you spend money, shoot yourself up with a hormone you get off the internet, and if your body is still in a state where it can benefit (open growth plates on your long bones) you end up 5′8 instead of 5′6. More likely the pharmacy sends you distilled water, or dextrose powder to shoot yourself up with (growth hormone cannot be taken as a pill - your body destroys it before it can be absorbed through your stomach or intestines). You might even think its working because you continue to grow the couple inches that you would have anyway, genetically. Finally, there is a risk that the pharmacy sends you something that was supposed to be HGH, but came out slightly wrong, or with impurities that dock with the sites in your brain where HGH should bind and poisons you. Also, any injectable drug or substance carries the risk of infection at the site of injection, and you’d be injecting frequently. Clearing that up would cause some uncomfortable moments explaining to a doctor and your parents what you’re up to, and why.Where HGH injections significantly increase final adult height is when its taken throughout the primary growth years between 10 and 16. Your bones have growth plates and if these growth plates have fused together then you have stopped growing, they would look at the x-ray and compare your bone age to your chronological age.You need to get in contact with an endocrinologist, they are the ones who specialize in this area. If your bones are not fused together the endocrinologist would also be interested in your growth records, as you are growing up your doctor is suppose to keep records of your height. He has what is called growth hormone deficency and now takes daily injections of HGH. True HGH can only be given by injections, HGH in any other form is not true HGH and you do need a prescription for it. If you are found to need HGH, you grow an average of 4 inches the first year you take it after that it tapers down to about 2 1/2 inches per year. Your dosage is based off of your weight, my son is only 7 and weighs 42 pounds, and he goes through 6 vials per month. My son has been taking them since the end of June, he had a check-up with his endocrinologist on Dec 21, he has grown 2 inches since he began taking them :)

I would be very very careful at the age of 18. I don’t know if you are male or female but forcing your body to grow more than it is naturally programmed to without a doctor could have unexpected outcomes.One of our neighbor boys didn’t start his growth spurt when the other boys in the neighborhood did. His folks took him to a specialist and he did grow more than he otherwise would have. One of my sons grew to about 5’6 when he graduated from high school but by the time he was 20 put on 4–5 more inches.My experience as a girl was pretty normal, at least I thought so. A few years ago I started having a lot of arthritis in my lumbar spine and found out it is totally deformed. The last 6 vertebrae are quite a mess. I shudder to think what additional growth hormones might have done to that.
