Does Hotel Housekeeping Have To Come

How do you get rid of housekeeping at a hotel?

i've never been in my hotel room when housekeeping comes around, and i couldn't find a "do not disturb" sign anywhere. i can hear the maid coming down the hall, but i don't want her to come in cuz i'm here. what are you supposed to say to them? i don't want to be like "go away!" to someone who's offering to clean my room, but what do i say? no, thank you? do i answer the door, or do i yell from inside? i'd prefer she didn't see me as i'm kind of a mess, right now.

and don't laugh at me! (unless you have an answer for me, in which case, i wouldn't mind. it is kind of funny. but i'm serious, haha. =))

Why does housekeeping always come to your room at 8am?

They don't always. I've seen hotel owners that didn't even want housekeepers showing up to work until 10am (didn't want them sitting around, on the clock, waiting for rooms to clean). I try to stagger them a little, have one come at eight, one or two more come in at nine, the rest at ten. But by then, I've had a bunch of people check out, and I can give them each a list of rooms to clean.  Ten is the earliest I'll usually have someone knocking on the doors of stay-overs, And that's rare: we always do the checked-out rooms first, then the stay-overs.Why do the ones who do it at 8am, do it?  In order to really understand people like that, I'd have to be (or, at least one time in my life, have been) as stupid as they . . . :-(

Do you tip housekeeping at hotel ?

Personally I leave a tip for most anyone in a service oriented job. I have, as I am sure most folks at one time or another, worked in a position where a tip would be appropriate.
When I am traveling and stay in a hotel or motel, I look for how clean and orderly the room is. How does it smell? Did the person who cleaned my room do some little extra thing not normally part of the job? Like in one hotel the towels were folded it the shape of animals. In another the information items like the menu for room service or list of local restaurants, was placed near the phone and easy to find.
Sometimes you may be limited in what you can do, due to policies of the hotel/ motel, so ask what is permissible before you do something.
I usually leave a few dollars even if the room is just clean.
Unfortunately, some people have no clue what service personal go through to provide the simple, basic parts of convience and cleanliness that they expect.
Education in ettiquette is lacking sometimes and that is sad.
I have on several occasions needed extra towels or blankets or pillows, things that housekeeping could provide and have found a housekeeper and asked for such, and they provided me what I asked for and that means a great deal to me. I always give them or leave for them a little extra tip.
If you are doing your rounds feel free to ask your customers if they are enjoying their room and if there is anything extra they need. It's all about customer service. The more you can do to make the customer feel cared for, the more likely they will come back to your place of business next time they are in the area. Thus the more successful your company will be.
Always smile and make the customer feel welcome at your hotel/ motel, they will likely come back.
Any service oriented business depends on it's reputation for success, this means it's front line employees are key to that repeat business. You treat your customers right, they will treat you right, either by tipping you or reporting your excellent service to your boss. How would you like to hear from the boss that people are pleased with you and he wants to keep you so here is a little raise to entice you to stay with the company? It does happen. I have often left a tip, or talked with a boss/ manager about an employee who provided great service.

Hope this helps. Be happy and smile.

How many minutes does a housekeeper takes to clean a hotel room?

It depends on the hotel and the type of room you are cleaning. I've worked at 4 different hotels over the years and the size of the average room has varied, but usually it's about 30 minutes. Marriott used to (maybe still does) have a process called 60 steps to a clean room in under 30 minutes.

Usually suites and larger upgraded rooms take up to an hour and sometimes require 2 people. However I would say if you're cleaning average sized standard rooms 26 minutes isn't too bad. However if you're cleaning suites or have more 2 bedded rooms than others make sure your supervisor understands this! Having to make a 2nd bed will typically add another 5-10 minutes.

Do hotel housekeepers still come in if you have the "do not disturb" sign on the door?

Im at the front desk of my hotel that I work at now and I can say that no housekeeper will enter your room with that sign up. If you request to the front desk that you do not want linen or your dishes washed, room cleaned etc, they are more than happy to leave you alone - less work for them to do. No it is not rude, the more clearer you are the less confusion there is for everybody involved.

What is like to work as a housekeeper or hotel maid?

I did this for awhile. Its a very demanding job at times.Your given' a number of rooms to clean.Depending on how many rooms you have is how many hours your work.Your expected to dust ,change linens, wipe out all draws, clean all mirrors, vacuum, clean windows, clean the bathroom spotless, restock all towels and toiletries plus if a hotel patron ask for something, you take care of that too.You have only so much time for each room.If you have an especially dirty room because of a party or something you might get some extra time allotted for the cleaning. It's not really that bad of a job.I kinda of enjoyed doing it.I just hated the clique that was between some of the fellow maids and the supervisors. It was very obvious they were close friends and favored. They always got the easiest room/floors with the airlines people(they came in late and left real early:no messes) and were given more then enough time to do their job compared to some of the others(not only me).Ahh... office politics, gotta love em...
If I were to go for the cleaning route again,I would do it for myself advertising at the local stores or work for a house cleaning company.I did this too,the pay and hour's varied..but at times I also made $20.00 + an hour, less head aches over all too.I prefer the house keeping job. When you learn whats expected it easy, just clean "your" house is all(basically).A trick people pull on house keepers is that they will hide money:under furniture, behind something you need to move, under nicknack's,etc....if you don't find it all they know you didn't clean what/how they think you should of.

I stay at hotels a lot. Would housekeeping rather clean my room everyday or very few days? Do they get more hours or paid by the room? It’s never messy but a fresh bed is always nice.

I’ve never been a housekeeper at a hotel but I knew someone who was. She hated cleaning rooms where the occupants were still there. She had to work around their stuff, she didn’t know what was trash and what wasn’t unless it was in the trash can, and she constantly worried that someone would accuse her of stealing from their room. Whenever she went to a room with a Do Not Disturb sign she would breathe a sigh of relief because her job was that much easier.Depending on the size of the room, and how badly the occupant messed it up, a good housekeeper can clean a hotel room in ten to fifteen minutes, tops. Some rooms may take longer if they are really bad, but some rooms can be done really quickly. Housekeepers get paid by the hour, so cleaning or not cleaning one extra room isn’t going to affect their pay all that much. And if you want them to change the bed sheets but not do anything else you can always tell them that when you see them coming towards your door.

Do I leave my hotel room unlocked when I request for housekeeping to fix my room?

Most hotels nowadays have copies of the keys to the rooms, or a master key that housekeeping uses. Housekeeping should simply use one of these keys to get into your room and tidy up. So keep your key on you. Most hotels have housekeeping go through each room once a day, usually during late morning/early afternoon when the guest will be out.

If you don't want housekeeping to come in, simply put the "do not disturb" sign on your door.

Also, keep your room tidy already, so housekeeping will do a better job; they wont bother cleaning everything if there's garbage everywhere, they just make the room moderately acceptable. Remember that housekeepers are people too, and they have better things to do than make up for people being slobs. I know this from staying in hotels with messy children :)

Why does housekeeping skip your room if you answer the door but clean your room if they watch you get on the elevator?

They can’t very well go through your things and look for something to steal that you won’t notice, if you’re standing there looking, now can they? Seriously, I don’t think they want to spend time trying to clean around you, asking you to move or constantly saying excuse me and apologizing. They have lots of rooms to get through and no time to waste dealing with someone who is in the way, and constantly having to move around to avoid impeding their progress. Also, there would be no point in making a bed if you’re just going to pull back the covers and get right back in it. They’re not going to clean the bathroom if someone is in there, who likely wouldn’t let them in anyways. To be honest, sometimes housekeepers don’t even do all the work they’re supposed to do, such as actually changing the linens. I saw an investigative report where this crew went in and secretly spray-painted their linens with washable paint that only shows under a black light. Then they’d check out and have their accomplishes check into the same rooms. They would be reassured that the linens were all clean and freshly changed. Then of course they’d go in, shine the lights, and see the same messages painted across the bedspreads. This happened at several hotels that were tested, and I don’t recall if any of them actually changed the linens consistently.I worked for the Marriott chain, and at least at our location, for those two whole days of my hospitality career, we never did this and I wasn’t aware of anyone else doing it. I would never have put up with being involved in that anyways. It’s unsanitary, unethical, and dishonest. Fortunately, my buddy and I never had to deal with an occupied room, but we did the job we were supposed to do, with nobody watching.
