Does My Neon Tetra Have Ntd

Dead neon tetra fish! what is on them?

That could just be fungus growing on the dead neon tetras.

Anyway check the rest of the Neon Tetra you have to see if any of the bodies are partially turning white or in a weird angle, remove these tetra immediately to a hospitial tank.

Neon Tetra suffer from a disease call NTD or Neon Tetra Disease. When it strike it usually kill off most of your school. There are medication for NTD, do check the web about NTD to help you verify if you're facing the same problem.

Brown spots on my neon tetra?

That does not sound like neon tetra disease. It sounds like a fungus. I can't really help you but I'm 99% sure that it's not neon tetra disease. NTD is very rare and whenever a neon tetra becomes sick, the disease is blamed.

What does NTD mean....?

Neural tube defect.

NTD effects 1 in every 1000 US births so your risk is low... they have not mentioned it as a concern but as a routine note.

Did my betta die of Neon Tetra Disease?

Do your Betta experience or showing this symptoms:

Restlessness

Fish begins to lose coloration

As cysts develop, body may become lumpy

Fish has difficulty swimming

In advanced cases spine may become curved

Secondary infections such as fin rot and bloating

During the initial stages, the only symptom may be restlessness, particularly at night. Often the first thing an owner will notice is that the affected fish no longer school with the others. Eventually swimming becomes more erratic, and it becomes quite obvious that the fish is not well.
As the disease progresses, affected muscle tissue begins to turn white, generally starting within the color band and areas along the spine. As additional muscle tissue is affected, the pale coloration expands. Damage to the muscles can cause curvature or deformation of the spine, which may cause the fish to have difficulty in swimming. It is not unusual for the body of the fish to have a lumpy appearance as the cysts deform the muscles.

Rotting of the fins, especially the caudal fin, is not uncommon. However, this is due to secondary infection rather than a direct result of the disease itself. Bloating is another secondary infection.

If your answer is YES then this may be the cause.

Do you know that:

Cichlids such as Angelfish, and Cyprinids such as Rasboras and Barbs, also fall victim to the disease. Even the common Goldfish can become infected. Interestingly enough, Cardinal tetras are resistant to the ravages of Neon Tetra disease.

And I think Betta to can get infected with this disease as well.

Hope the answer may solve your curiosity.

Are cardinal tetras immune to Neon Tetra Disease?

Yes. I prefer them over neons just for that reason.

How to treat false neon tetra disease?

False Neon Tetra Disease responds to best to Minocycline and Erthromycin.It is a septicemia that enters from the outside and then infects internal organs, so you need gram negative and gram positive coverage. If you can't get your pharmacy to giive you a few doses, get Maracyn and Maracyn 2 and use them together. You need to treat for at least 4 days. Remove the carbon, and add a new one and do a 35% water change after treatment is finished. False Neon Tetra Disease in contagious to all exposed fish.There is now an experimental med to kill real Neon Tetra Disease, toltrazuril, but you can't get it yet.

Why are my neon tetras turning black?

I bought them about a year and a half ago. I only have 4 due to losing one to what i suspect was NTD a couple of months after i got them. They looked like your regular neons until recently. The part above the blue streak is a really dark gray, almost black. Theyre blue and red is really bright and nothing has changed in their behavior or surroundings, so i assume they are happy campers.
Has this ever happened to anyone elses neons? I havent been able to find anything on the web about this.
I am certain they are not the black neon tetras.

Can bettas catch neon tetra disease from neons in the same tank as it?

@cuttlefish
yes, they are. this fin is a little less than half of what it used to be and its annoying but the neons only nip when im at school so ive started to put them in a bowl (yes unfiltered stagnant water) while im at school from 7:00am-5:00pm and i put them back in the tank when i get back home.

this is why im wondering because im pretty sure one or two of them are going to get the disease from the stress..they dont have it--yet.

@14murad
actually no he doesnt bother them at all actually. i think he likes how there is other fish in there he sometimes just looks at them school together and sometimes joins them/leads them

@gary c
they dont have it yet, but they will probably get it soon since i keep moving them to a bowl of water on a daily basis, so im just wondering.
