Does This Laptop Seem Good For College

What's a good laptop for college?

I'm thinking about getting the Dell XPS 15 9560. Whatever laptop I want to get will likely be the only laptop I will use throughout my college education so I want it to last. I do play some games and this laptop seems to be able to play them. My parents suggest I get the newest MacBook but that's because seemingly everyone has a MacBook in college.

Mac laptop or PC laptop for college?!?!?

I'm not sure which one I should get for college. I grown up using a PC but Macs seem to be very user friendly and I can get to learn how to use it.
If I get a mac laptop, which one should I get? Macbook or Macbook Pro?
Or if I get a pc laptop, which brand would you recommend?

price range: $800-$1000 would be ideal

my major for college: Biochemistry/Cell Biology

What is a good laptop that will work for college and can also game?

Ooh. Let’s see. Depending on your budget, there are a number of options that will suit you.$600 price range - Acer Aspire 3 (MX150) Probably the cheapest decent gaming laptop you can get, the Aspire 3’s MX150 is MUCH better than it’s predecessor, the 940MX. Expect decent frame rate in light games, like Overwatch, and you can lower graphics for heavier stuff, like Doom(2016).$1000 price range - Dell Inspiron 7577 (GTX 1060 Max-Q) This is probably the best value of the bunch. It is basically a masterpiece from Dell, most people who review can’t seem to find anything wrong with it. The 1060 Max-Q on this one is special, since it runs at a higher boost clock than most 1060 Max-Qs, yet still is quiet, and has great battery life. It’s a great machine.$1500 price range - Alienware 15 (GTX 1070) My personal favorite gaming laptop, this baby has a extremely well built chassis, and feels really nice, solid, and premium, although this does come at the cost of weight, not to mention it is quite thick. The 1070 which is factory overclocked, has some monster performance, easily achieving 100+ FPS on modern titles, 1080p Ultra. I also like the dank aesthetics.$1800 price range - Alienware 15 (GTX 1070 w/ 120hz display, i7–7820hk (overclockable)) This is the regular Alienware 15, except with some upgrades. For example, the 120Hz display is AMAZING for gaming, and makes use of the powerful graphics card. The overclockable 7820hk is already more powerful stock, but can achieve great speeds, at least better than other laptops because the 15’ is cooled really well. Get this version if you can afford it.$2500 price range - Asus Zephyrus (GTX 1080 Max-Q) This is an incredible piece of engineering. Thanks to Nvidia’s Max-Q technology, it is both light, quiet, thin, and powerful. The idea behind Max Q is that, although the more wattage you feed the card, the more performance you get, there is a point where a lot of that energy is being wasted, when the card is no longer efficient. So the Max-Q design only allows the card to run at a certain wattage and clockspeed, to get similar performance with MUCH improved acoustics, weight, and battery life. This laptop takes enormous advantage of that. It is literally the perfect laptop for college, if you can afford it. A downside though, is that because of the battery saving measures in the design, a power hungry 120Hz screen is not available.I hope you find the guide helpful.

Do all students take notes in college on a laptop?

No, I'm in college right now and I still hand-write all my notes. I tried converting, but I was too lazy to carry around my heavy laptop along with all my books and quickly stopped doing that.

However, I am a humanities major. My friends who are CS majors mostly take notes exclusively on laptop. I think their professors usually email out their powerpoint slides or put them on a server somewhere, so if there is a diagram they are easily accessible. If not, there are always Tablet PC-type laptops.

In one of my history classes, the professor forbade laptops because so many students were using them to play games during class. He caused the problem though, since he was a boring and repetitive lecturer AND he made attendance mandatory.

Is the HP Envy good for college?

I like the Envy because it fits in my $900 budget and I can play video games on it(on occasions). It seems like it has good build quality too. If you have used one, how do you like it?

Are MSI laptops good?

Why do most laptops seem to last college students a long time even though they usually use them on their laps, drink or eat while using the laptop?

The number of repairs that I’ve done on laptops owned by college students seems to indicate, to me at least, that what you’re seeing is quite different from what I’m seeing. Laptops, in general, last a long time. The things that break, they break no matter who is using machine. Keyboards get fouled and sticky, screens get cracked, USB jacks and power ports get broken… These things are common to all laptops. In my experience, sales people are far harder on their laptops than college students.
