Does weightlifting affect height?

Yes, it is clinically proven that weightlifting can affect your height and possibly stunt your growth. There is nothing wrong with visiting a gym regularly, however. I'm 17 going on 18 in October, my mom is personal trainer, and I've been going to the gym since I was 15. However, you DO NOT want to go to the gym every day under any circumstances. You're gonna want to give your muscles time to grow, and not put continuous strain on them.

Stunt of growth cause by weight lifting doesn't always occur in every teenage boy's case; like I said I've been weightlifting for about 3 years now and I'm still growing just fine. Certain studies suggest that certain types of teen weight lifting may damage the epiphysis, or growth plate, of your bones. There is evidence that lifting heavy weight could speed up growth plate closure, which would stunt your growth.

However, that doesn't mean that you can't pump iron. If you're gonna lift seriously, only do a couple of sets per day, with no more than about 15 reps. Again, don't go to the gym every single day; 3-4 days per week should be your goal. You wanna give your muscle's time and room to grow!

If you have any more questions about weightlifting, you can throw me a couple emails and I can have my parents look over them and get you some more answers. But your physician should be able to answer any of your questions as well.

Good luck.

Hope this helps. :)

Does weight lifting stops height growth?

Arnold Schwarzenegger started bodybuilding at age 15. Lou Ferrigno began at 14. Go ahead. Give it all you've got because the younger you are the greater the possibility of you getting huge. Don't wait until you're older.

Does weight lifting reduce or stunt height and stop growth?

I would like to add a tinge of logic-based introspection into this myth:1). To straighten a folded and creased paper you can’t simply expect to press it hard with your palm for few seconds or even minutes to straighten it out. No, it just doesn’t happen.2). You would have to put up piles of heavy stuff on it for hoursssssss on end and still can’t expect it to be flattened out.3). Living beings or things GROW under short bursts of stress. Its a fact. The stress placed on it directly translates to the things or parts to grow stronger or bigger.4). Kids have a higher potential for growth and development simply because their metabolic rate is high at young ages.5). Weight-training sessions are purely stressful to the body. Most weightlifting sessions are done for an hour.6). When short bursts of manage-able stress through weightlifting is placed upon the young bodies, they grow. (Check Wolff’s Law)To Stop or Curb their height, you would have to put kids under weights for 24 hours for weeks to curb their height; which STILL IS DOUBTFUL, because body finds its way to recover and build up a stronger self.7). Check Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was a full grown bodybuilder at the age of 13. His height is about 6 feet. Did his height stop?NO! There are many other examples on Google. Do some search. My whole point is:If a fucking sheet of paper doesn’t flatten out under heavy stress placed on it for hours, How can kids’ heights stop increasing through weightlifting sessions done for an hour.!!!!Infact, they would not only grow in height, but their bone density will be Amazingly high. This will make them less prone to injury and make way for a STRONG Bone Framework to build stronger muscles on.Please Upvote and FOLLOW if you find this helpful.Best of luck.Stay strong, Stay fit and Stay happy.Divya KothariThe Kineo

Does extra weight affect your height growth?

The more weight you carry on your body, the more stress that is put on your spine. People who carry around a significant amount of weight have much more compression on their spine which can cause the vertebrae to be pushed together, and yes will make you shorter.
This is sort of like the weight and penis size issue. The more fat on your pelvis the more your penis is burried in fat. If you lose weight the penis would be more exposed and therefore "larger" (more would be exposed for penetration).
Same thing with height, if you are obese, losing weight you release this pressure on your spine and you may gain 1-3 inches in height simply from the spine becoming straighter.

How does erythromycin affect weight lifting gains?

i was prescribed an antibiotic called erythromycin to help my acne, and according to the manual it works by inhibiting protein synthesis. i've researched the topic and i'm yet to find anything specific for my tablets, but does anyone know how/if it will affect weight lifting gains, or if it only stops protein synthesis specific to skin cells? thanks.
