Dylon Fabric Dye How Long Do I Leave It On

Where can I get UV reactive fabric dyes?

True fluorescent dyes, which light up under a black light, are hard to get. Most of them will not work well on cotton. Fortunately, you can use fluorescent fabric paint instead.

There's a really good permanent fluorescent dye for cotton that is made by Dystar, a German company, called Remazol Fluorescent Yellow FL, but you can only buy it in quantities of 5 kilos or greater, which is very expensive.

In some locations you might be able to find Dylon "UV Fluorescent Fabric dye", in tiny 5-gram tins which will each dye up to eight ounces of fabric. These dyes work better on silk than on cotton, and will not work at all on synthetic fibers such as polyester. Try www.glowshop.com in the UK.

If you use Procion MX dye, you can get bright neon colors that look like fluorescents, but they will not light up under a blacklight. The optic brighteners found in most laundry detergents will make any remaining white on the design light up blue-white under a blacklight.

The best fluorescent effects will come from using a true fluorescent fabric paint. Some fabric paints are very thin and don't alter the feel of the fabric much more than dye does. Others will leave a stiff, hard, scratchy feeling. Quality counts in fabric paints. Jacquard Textile Colors are available in many colors including a true fluorescent blue, green, orange, pink red, violet, and yellow. You can use Pebeo SetaSkrib fabric markers, in fluorescent yellow, orange, pink, violet, blue, or green, to color any natural fiber. Javana Silk Paint comes in fluorescent orange, red, green, and blue, in addition to all of their non-fluorescent colors. DEKA Neon fabric paint also comes in six fluorescent colors, yellow, orange, pink, red, blue, and green.

In the UK, order DEKA or Javana paints, or the SetaSkrib Markers, from Fibrecrafts.com. In Australia, order Texcraft fluorescent fabric paint or printing ink from Kraftkolour.com.au. In the US, order Jacquard fluorescent textile paints from Dharma Trading Company, or order PROfab Fluorescent Textile Paint or SetaSkrib Markers from PRO Chemical & Dye.

Can you use the dylon fabric dye for machine use as a hand use fabric dye instead?

Per the directions on the DYLON website, both the DYLON Fabric Dyes for machine and the DYLON Fabric Dyes for hand use work in a water temperature of 40°C (104 °F). This should make interchanging them easier, particularly since the available is the same. The difficulty would be in getting the color dye mixture correct so when you hand applied the dye to each section of the bound fabric, the desired color design would be created.

Dyeing a garment in the washing machine will result in a solid wash of color across and over the entire garment. An example would be a white cotton shirt dyed yellow; the entire shirt would come out of the machine yellow. Same would be true if the shirt were hand dyed. To achieve the tie-dyed design, each dye color must be squirted on a separate section of the string tied or rubber banded shirt. Watch the 'YouTube' video and look at the 'Instructables' web pages to see how the variety of design colors are applied/distributed.

so my questions are

1.will it work on any fabric?

2.i wear the bag on my shoulder everyday, will the dye rub onto my clothing?

3. How much is it and where can i buy it?

im going to be dying it in a bucket not the washing machine [btw]

If you can answer any of my questions your help is greatly appreciated!

Help on fabric dye please ???

I don't see why Dylon™ wouldn't work...it works on polyester. Maybe the people at Dylon thought you meant real suede. I wouldn't recommend dying real suede at home. But faux suede? Sure.

Here's a link:

You're smart to avoid Rit™ Dye. Rit isn't very colorfast, especially for polyester.

How do you spot dye fabric?

I have Dylon Permanent Fabric Dye, the powder stuff, and I want to spot dye a bag I have made. Does anyone know how or have you ever done it before?

I want to dye about 1 square foot of fabric- cotton denim. I want the color to be the full color of the dye.

Do I mix the dye, salt, and water up and dab it on with a rag? Is there something I can do to help the color from leaching to where I don't want it???

Thanks

How to get rid of used Dylon dye?

It all depends on the kind of dye it is. There is Acid dyes (for animal fibres) and Fiber Reactive dyes for plant materials. Dylon is a Fiber Reactive dye. Fiber Reactive dyes do not require any special disposal. You can safely pour them down the drain.

Can DYLON fabric dye be bought at CVS or Rite Aid?

Not usually. You need to go to a fabric shop or crafts supplies store for specialty items like that. Sorry.

If you do not have such a place nearby, try www.joann.com. You can either sop online or find the location of your nearest JoAnn's Fabrics & Crafts store.

What colors of fabric dye for denim are available?

BLUE ,NAVY,BLACK~~~

Using Dylon fabric dye without a washing machine?

Both your bucket idea and Kristin K's idea of using a tote are good ideas!!!

If someday you find that you really need to use the wash machine to dye something, this is what you do. Dye the item as directed. Then gather up an arm full of all your old cleaning towels and rags and throw those in the wash machine. Set the water to Hot and to XL Load. Pour a cup of bleach in the proper container and use another rag dabbed with bleach to go around the top of the machine and clean up the excess. Run a long cycle.

This will clear any residual dye out of your wash machine. Some of the rubber molding above the washer drum may have sucked up some dye, but that will slowly dissipate and won't bleed onto any of your other clothes.

You can trust me when I tell you this because I didn't figure this out on my own and had I ruined my Mom's wash machine and a subsequent laundry load, lets just say she would not have been pleased. She, on the other hand, every Christmas re-dyed a beautiful silk/cotton tablecloth with an inter-woven design in addition to 14 napkins a pretty red color every year. In addition, back in the day, everybody had white sheets, no colored sheets---no sheets with designs---unless they were embroidered---were nothing I ever saw. She would also sew our Halloween costumes out of old white sheets and I remember her dying my witch costume black in the automatic washer. And to think we wanted "boughten costumes with a mask!" We also wanted "boughten cookies!" Just goes to show we did not get everything, or even most things we wanted!

I hope your yoga pants turn out well!
