Be like Fatimah Az-zahra and Saidina Ali r.a. They were in love with each other, but they hide their feelings until Allah SWT united them in a blessed marriage. Eid ul-Fitr: Should I get my neighbors a gift?
A little background: We just moved to a new apartment, and our neighbors have made the move amazing. They helped us move our furniture and bring us food almost every day. They are the nicest neighbors I have EVER had. The mother doesn't speak English, the two daughters speak some, and the sons speak the most. The other night they invited me over for tea and we were visiting (with broken conversation). They said they have a holiday coming up. Luckily the oldest son was walking through the room and he told me about the holiday. All he basically said was it was called Eid and it was similar to Christmas, meaning, it's a big deal for them. I read about it on Wikipedia, and I want to do something for them. Get them a gift or show them how much I appreciate their kindness. I don't know what's "appropriate" or what they would like. I really don't know them too well. They're just SUPER nice and I want to repay them. What would be a good gift for the family? Any ideas?
Muslim moms do you send Eid gifts to your kids classrooms?
Great idea. It is also easy, since your kids are in an Islamic school (great for them too!). Yes, I send something along to my children´s classmates. We live in a small-town-conservative-Catholic-area in Germany, so it is not normal for Eid to be celebrated at school (but our children may stay home for one Eid day). I bake some nice cookies (ex. moon-shaped) or special muffins and decorate them nicely. For Ramadan I have read the 1st graders a story about fasting (from Adem´s World videos) and had a friend draw pics to go with it. Explaining this Eid is more difficult though, and I don´t feel soooo welcomed by the teachers anyway to do this (although they agree to it friendly enough....), so now I just send along something sweet. But the pupils love my baking, and now even make special requests to my daughter (gr.4) as to what I should send along!! :-D At least THEY now know when it is Eid, and look forward to it! lol ! Sadly, I am the only Muslim parent I know here who does this in my town. Thanks for reminding me about this... (gotta go shopping for ingredients....).
