Feels Like Something Is Stuck In My Throat

Feels like something is stuck in my throat?

It could be that your tonsils are swollen. Take a small pen light or something and shine it down the back of your throat. Try to see your tonsils in a mirror - they're on either side of your throat. If they are red and puffy, they're swollen. You can suck on ice to try to get the swelling to go down. Why are they swollen? Well, they're meant to catch infection and bacteria so you don't get sick. But when they do catch it, they swell up easy.

It feels like something is stuck in my throat ..?

Aww that sounds awfull! Have you tried gargling/drinking a glass of water? If there is something lodged in there, it should wash it down. Another good one is to eat a piece of bread (if you can stomach the idea of it). If neither of those options work, it might be a burn in your throat from the stomach acid (from throwing up). If its not gone in a couple of days, it might be worth seeing your doctor. Good luck, I hope it goes away for you soon.

Feels like there's something stuck in my throat?! :I?

You do have a muscle under your chin that when it gets tight it also tightens up the muscles in your throat. When that muscle is released it also releases the pain in your throat. Here is how to release that muscle:
Chin Muscle:
Place your thumbs under your chin near the front and press up and hold that pressure. After 30 seconds slowly raise your head until your neck is fully extended, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds.

Feels like something is stuck in my throat and it has been 6 days?

As nasty as it may sound. Sounds like you may have a snot stuck between your nasal cavity and your throat. The only way to clear that it has to travel down through your nasal cavity up through your throat into your mouth and when you spit it out it may seem refrshing. But before it clears you may cough and choke. Ha ha sounds weird right?

They are usually not that long snot but a small snot when it does clear. I find myself sometime dealing with that myself and it is so refreshing to your mind when you truly believe it has been cleared. Also try drinking water and wetting your throat so it can travel smoother.

What doctor should see if I feel I have something stuck in my throat or esophagus? ENT?

That is a very good question,The ENT doctor will evaluate your ears, nose and throat, where a GI specialist can evaluate the esophagus into the stomach and beyond using endoscopy and a camera to visualize problems, and the little scope end has tools on it if something needs done there. ENT doctors also use scopes, usually up your nose and into the back of your throat to your vocal cords. Depending on your illness or symptom history, when it occurs, what you are doing at the time, and if you can point to the offending area, will decide who it would be est to see. Many times your PCP will refer you to the specialist that they think may show something abnormal. They would put you asleep for the endoscopy in the GI lab with an anesthetist giving you a rapid on and off anesthesia that goes into an IV. You should not remember anything of the test or procedure. For the ENT doctor, they just squirt a numbing spray in, and down your nose and put a small scope down and it is over in less than 20 minutes. The endoscopy takes a little over 1–11/2 hours and then you are recovered from anesthesia. You need to bring someone with you to drive you home, but the tests are not horrible. The doctor may give you results there, or give them to your PCPs office. Since I do not know which body system is involved, many more questions can be asked to pin the diagnosis down for a better result.

Feels like something is stuck in the back of my throat?

You most likely have food lodged in your vallecula, they are little pouches at the base of your tongue that commonly trap food, but very difficult to remove sometimes. I have seen it on occasions in the ER. You need to try to gargle with water while gargling try to rotate your neck or gargle and extend your neck( look up to the sky) while rubbing the upper portion of your neck so that the pouches move and possibly dislodging the food. If you don't feel like you can get it out you might have to go to a primary care type place and they can get it out.

It feels like there is something stuck in my throat/back of mouth.?

Look inside your mouth at your throat and see if your tonsils are swollen, very red colored or with white patches. Of course if you have white patches you should see your Physician as you might have Strep throat and sometimes some people have it with just dark red irritated looking tonsils.

While you are looking, check out the little thing that hangs down in the center back top of your throat. You know the thing that dangles in your throat. Is it swollen? Sometimes if it is swollen it will feel like something is inside your throat and if it is hanging low enough it will feel like you are swallowing it. If you have been clearing your throat alot or even coughing alot you may have irritated it, and sometimes people swallow something really hot and burn it.

Try a warm water mild salt water gargle every few hours and see if that helps. If still having a problem by Monday you might want to see your Physician.

Why do I always feel like something is stuck in my throat?

Please ,please dont expect people on Quora, especially non medical ones to be able to tell you what’s going on. Ethical and safe doctors do not diagnose from a distance (except for properly organised telemedicine ). You cannot diagnose without a proper history and physical examination. Without a diagnosis no one can offer treatment.I can think of many things that could cause this, some are not serious-just a nuisance and easily managed- and some could be extremely serious-like neurological problems. If this is bothering you then you should see your family doctor and possibly be referred to an ENT surgeon who has the ability to examine you properly.Im not being protective for doctors. I’m trying to get the message across that Quora is not the place for diagnostic questions about personal medical problems. It’s dangerous.

How can I remove something stuck in my throat?

Well don’t go putting your fingers down your throat- you will just push the object further down and you do not want to push an object into your vocal chords as you will occlude your airwayAs you have not mentioned difficulty breathing - as you had time to post this lol- the method I use in the emergency room is very simple and easyI ask the triage nurse to inform the patient while they wait to see me to drink 525ml of Cola or Lemonade - but it must be fresh and fizzyThe carbonated drink as you swallow it expands in your throat and the walls of the throat move outwards. At the same time the liquid pushes the object down your gullet into the stomachMost of the time by the time I call the patient - they have already left and gone home happy

It feels like there is something stuck in my throat and I keep coughing, how do I stop this?

Hi Brayden. Well, first things first. You’ll need a diagnosis so that a treatment plan can be implemented. In other words, get to a doctor to find out why you have this feeling in your throat and the cough. Could be any number of things: something as simple as excessive dryness of the throat to post nasal drip (the mucus drips from the sinuses down the back of your throat then makes you cough. Or something like a cyst or something else growing in your throat, an infection or a scratch from swallowing some sharp that is provoking your cough reflex.Do you smoke? That’s a big cause for coughs. Do you take a type of blood pressure medication called an ACE inhibitor? Lisinopril (Zestril) is one of the most common of these meds. A dry cough can be an uncommon side effect. Have you had your tonsils removed? They could be infected and enlarged, giving the feeling of something stuck in your throat and maybe a cough. So make an appointment with a doctor sooner than later. In the meantime, swallow a teaspoon of honey if your diet allows. This will do several things: it will coat your throat and hopefully decrease the sensation of something stuck there; it will decrease the cough; it is a natural antimicrobial (anti germ) that can start killing off a potential infection while you’re waiting to see the doctor.Good luck to you- be well.
