Can anybody find a simile in chapters 1,2,3 or 4 in the book Great Expectations by charles dickens?

From chapter 3 there are 2 in a row, one in each sentence: "I had seen the damp lying on the outside of my little window, as if some goblin had been crying there all night, and using the window for a pocket-handkerchief. Now, I saw the damp lying on the bare hedges and spare grass, like a coarser sort of spiders' webs; hanging itself from twig to twig and blade to blade."

How do you find a simile or metaphor?

You make one! Here are some examples:I felt like I was 100 years old and had just barely won a fist fight. She was tougher than a bag of rocks.I felt like I was running stairs with an anvil strapped to my neck. She was as graceful as a swan.Basically, just think “this thing is like this thing and this thing put together” as you’re good to go.

Finding similes in a book?

There is no way that you can find similes in the book if you don't have the book! Buy or borrow the book, then search for the similes. Are you familiar with the definition of simile? It is a comparison using the words like or as -- a simile is a figure of speech. Good luck with your assignment! You can not use similes from a source other than "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich"!

What does this epic simile mean? (Book 16 in the Odyssey)?

"Salt tears rose from the wells of longing in both men, and cries burst from both as keen and fluttering as those of the great taloned hawk, whose nestlings farmers take before they fly. So helplessly they cried, pouring out tears, and might have gone on weeping so till sundown..."
(Nestlings: young birds that are not ready to leave the nest)

It was when Telemachus and Odysseus finally reunited.

Please help me find a simile and metaphor in the book "Because of Winn Dixie"?

The first one is not a metaphor because it is not relating 2 things. It is just statement. An example would be "The tree is a glowing star" - something like that.

The second one is a simile because it compares Winn-Dixie and a bullet using like or as.

Im doing this book study and i need some help finding some similes and metaphors. 5 points for anybody who can come up with 3 similes and 3 metaphors. 5 points for the person with the most by Wednesday of this week.

Why do authors use similes?

Because it makes the writing (and reading) more interesting and lyrical.  Similes spark your reader's imagination while getting the information across. They help the reader 'see' the scene in their heads. You don't always have to use the word 'like' but it often works.  A simile is really just a comparison and often  you can make them in a more subtle way for a better read.  Different types comparisons are  demonstrated below. Her marriage was a mess.     "Her marriage was like a beach after a storm; messy and tangled."Her eye were the color of  blue corn flowers.          "She had Bette Davis eyes."The young man reminded her of a matador.     "He reminded her of a Spanish matador with his dark hair hitting his collar, and his muscular chest showing through his open shirt."The full moon rose slowly over the trees.  "The full moon rose slowly over the trees and rained down beams of light through the branches, like a mother ship searching for her workers.
