Ok.. i know u might tell me to be myself, but i hate myself! Everytime i go up to someone, we just say hi then its all awkward silence. I dont hav any stories to tell since i dont get out much. Im a boring person and i hate it. I almost have no friends at all. Any advice on how to make myself funner? I dont wanna change my appearance.. i like my appearance. its just personality that drives people away! Im not mean, but i might be too nice. Idk! what can i do
Why do people enjoy taking personality quizzes?
In some cases it narcissism, but often than not I think it's because most people are not really sure who they are. We all play different roles in our lives, experience lots of ups and downs, and especially for young people, it gets confusing. I suspect that most try not to think about it. It's one of the hardest things in life to figure what what is the "real you" and most people don't get it until their old -- not my idea, lots of famous psychologists have basically said the same thing. I'm not sure I believe there is a "real me" under all the layers, but that's what we're supposed to believe. In suspect that in the end I'm just a collection of the various roles I play and persona I exhibit. The relevant question is whether personality tests can help in this search. I used to teach classes on personality and I always had the students take a battery of tests. Always a few were really surprised by the results which is not to say that they were starring the truth about themselves in the face. Most felt that the tests pretty much confirmed what they already knew or suspected. In that regard it might be useful to take such tests if they can help you see different parts of yourself so long as you don't take the results all that seriously as the only revealed truth.Two other comments worth noting. First, such tests are marginally useful in predicting behavior, typically not as strong a predictor as knowing the situation a person is in and her or his past behavior, but still useful. Second, sometimes people wear their results like a badge and try to fit themselves into whatever category the test put them in. The worst offender in my experience is the Myers-Briggs, and I'm sick and tired of people telling me that they are sensation or intuition person as well as thinking or feeling, etc. As if that means much and as if we stay put in our categories all the time. .
