Ford Ranger Starts And Immediately Stalls

98 Ford Ranger starts and dies immediately?

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD with a V6-3.0L engine. *EEC-IV system*

It ran a little rough, kind of sputtering when accelerating on the hwy at times, but fine most of the time for two weeks. Then one day I went out and it would start but die as soon as I let go of the ignition. Two days later it started just fine and I drove it to work. Then it did the same thing again that afternoon and ever since no matter what time of day.

Had the fuel filter replaced and the pump checked out fine. 120k miles on it and it had the original plugs and wires so I replaced them (gapped at 44). Checked the crank sensor plug and cleaned it (very dirty from obviously 4x4 use).

Yes, wires are arranged correctly.

PCM or PCM relay issue? No errors on check (mobile repair truck).

Really need some help on this one.

Thanks

Mike

88 Ford Ranger 2.3 runs a minute then stalls?

I am looking at possibly buying an 88 Ranger 4x4 2.3 5 spd. The owner is selling it cheap because he cant get it to run. Heres the details.

Engine is a 2.3 with 8 plugs, no distributor. It starts, runs for a minute, and stalls. It will restart immediately and do the same thing.

I am thinking control module, but I dont want to spend $150 on one and have that not be the problem.

What do you guys think?

I should mention it has a new fuel pump, new fuel pump relays, new ECM, new TPS, new IAC, and new plugs & wires. The ad has no mention of a new fuel filter, but I would assume it was replaced before throwing parts at it.

1992 ford ranger running rough and stalling?

i have a 1992 ford ranger regular cab 2wd manual with the 2.3l 4I engine. it starts and will run(kinda) it spitts and sputters. when put in reverse it does ok and it will sometimes get going a little but if you try to give it to much gas it will jerk sputter and want to cut out. it will cut out sometimes just siting still running. when sitting at idle itl spitt and sputter but if you fight threw it a little you can get the engine to rev higher if you hold it there with small sputters. i have changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump i have checked one of the spark plugs, shot some thorttlebody cleaner into the throtlebody and put some compression restorer from bar`s in the oil, i have also put in some injector cleaner in the tank. i cant for the life of me seem to find the MAP sensor. what is the problem. no check engine light (not sure if it works though)

My 1994 ranger stalls and dies out when put in gear PLEASE HELP?

Is it a manual or auto?
It could be a bad ignition module, When they go bad and get hot then they start to fail. It could be an ignition coil as well. It could be a weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Drive it to the auto parts store and have them plug in a code reader to see if it is throwing off any codes.

96 Ford Ranger 2.3 stalls out during low speed hard turns.....?

96 Ford Ranger 2.3 liter 4 Cyl. 5 speed. 320,000 miles.
While turning sharply into a parking spot (in neutral or 1st with clutch disengaged) the engine hesitates, shakes and dies. It starts back up without any problems and continues to run. The power steering fluid is full and the belt is new. Also I never hold the wheel all the way to its stopping point. When the wheel does not go any further I back off an inch or so.Has this ever happened to your Ranger and if so, what the solution? Thanks.

Engine cranks, won't start. Tach goes backwards?

My 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 has been sitting for a few months, so I charged the battery. It cranked, ran for a moment, then sputtered and died, as if it ran out of fuel.

Not real good with troubleshooting, but am trying.

I can hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned on.

I can't seem to locate the fuel pressure valve- I think I'm supposed to look for a Schrader valve? Was planning to depress the pin to see if fuel shoots out. (don't have a pressure gauge)

Random Youtube video says that I should look at the tach when cranking and if the tach needle moves, the CPS is working. Well, when I crank, the needle moves backwards. This is confusing me a lot. Tach is aftermarket, and worked properly for years.

I shot carb cleaner into a sensor hole in the air intake hose...seemed to run for a moment the first time, but maybe not. Does nothing now.

Planning to borrow a OBD2 scanner tomorrow... And will try to check for spark. And I need to figure out where the fuel pressure valve is. Any other ideas?

Why wont my 4.0L Ford Ranger stay running when cold?

I have a 1997 Ranger (2WD, 4 litre, 5 speed) and when it is cold it starts right away and goes into high-idle (approx. 1800 RPM) but unless I am giving it gas, the RPM's drop after 5 or 6 seconds and it either stalls out or idles very low (approx 200-300 RPM). Once it warms up for a minute or two it idles fine and continues to idle normally when started providing the engine is still warm. Also, I am not sure if it is related, but at time when I take my foor off of the accelerator while driving, the accelerator seems to stick for 3-4 seconds, and if i press the clutch while it is stuck the RPM will jump when go back to idle as normal. Any ideas?
