Gateway Laptop Charger Port Not Charging

My laptop charger stops charging when I move?

Laptops are subjected to plenty of hard use, & one item that often gets damaged is the charger (or adapter) cord, @ the computer end.
The constant bending, plug & un-plug actions, and other stresses, causes the copper wires inside the cord to become "work hardened", rendering them brittle and eventually snapping, which ends power to the lapper.

For new units, and replacement chargers, one thing I do right away is reinforce the cable end where it plugs into the lapper.
The idea is to make them less flexible & can be done with a couple of methods.
1) Use a hot glue gun and apply glue from as near the tip connector as possible, down the length of the cord 2-3 inches, building up the glue to twice the thickness of the original cord diameter;
OR
2) Use a semi-flexible, heavy tape (like cloth athletic tape or similar) & wind around the cord; again to about double the original cord thickness.

Both methods restrict the movement and stress on the internal wires, extending the usable life of the cord considerably.
Always un-plug the cord using the 'barrel' terminal itself; don't pull on the cord.

Can I use any laptop charger to charge my own laptop?

Maybe - Is the only correct answer.Even ones with the same voltage and current ratings, and the same connector (with same pins for ground and +V) from two different manufactures may not work for one another. My HP (work) and Dell (home) laptop are an example of this. Everything is spec’d the same, but they’re ‘smart’ chargers and one will not charge the other. That said, I had used many Dells for many years at Work and they were interchangeable among the dells. HP’s seem to be the same among the HPs, and so on (as long as the connector is the same and brand.)Future (and some current) Laptops - In the future most are moving to USB PD (USB Power Delivery) which is a power delivery standard over the latest USB Type-C connectors. Apple has gone full in, and other manufactures are slowly creeping in. And if everyone follows the standards, we’ll eventually get to interchangeable USB PD chargers for laptops. It’ll be a couple years, but every new laptop will use USB PD for primary charging purposes.

Can my laptop charger port be fixed?

I have a Toshiba Satellite in case if anyone wants to know.

Okay, so I have had this issue for about 5 months now- either my laptop harger port is loose/broken or the plug that goes into the port is broken.

I used to toggle with it for a few moments and then it would charge for the rest of the time until it is full... but today was mighty peculiar..

It decided not to charge at all.It would for a couple of seconds and minutes but would stop after.

I can't sit around all day and babysit my laptop. It's been nearly the entire day already and it still has not been able to charge.

I had told my dad about this problem and he believes that something in the port is broken and he cannot fix it.

I need help and advice.

Gateway laptop making beeping noise everytime i touch the charger?

Most likely the battery is dieing. you can run a couple of tests.

Remove the battery and turn on the computer with only the charger plugged in. if its turns on and runs great for a good amount of time the charger is fine. if not the charger is bad.

Charge the battery to max charge and unplug the charger if the computer charge goes down very fast or shuts off then replace the battery.

If somehow both the charger and battery pass the test it can be the laptop charging port has become loose.
