Getting A Buckskin Out Of My Palomino Mare

Breeding a Chestnut mare to a buckskin what color will the foal be?

Without any additional information about what color genes the parents carry, you have the following chances of getting these colors:

29.17% Buckskin
29.17% Bay
16.67% Palomino
16.67% Chestnut
4.17% Smoky Black
4.17% Black

Have any of you bred a palomino mare to a black stallion?

To all of you who assume that I care more about color than other things~ You're a little annoying.

I just asked a simple question.

For your information, so that you don't stress yourselves out about my horse breeding...

I have a AQHA registered (perfect in EVERY way) palomino mare. I found a registered (perfect in EVERY way) black stud.
I did not pick him for his color. I only bred her because she is too good not to. I want a carbon copy to take her place when she gets to old to ride.

To the serious people here who have so kindly answered the asked question : ) :

The stallion does have some chestnut offspring and so he can't be homoz, am I right? My mare has a little patch on her back of reddish hair like a sorrel but it's mixed with her blond color.
So judging from some of the answers, my chances are probably good for a chestnut. I must say, I do hope it's palomino or buckskin because I love the total package of color, conformation, and disposition all in one : )

Breeding to get a buckskin paint?

Don't breed for color. Breed for conformation. If you mare does not have ideal conformation, and excellent attitude and work ethic, and good bloodlines, don't bother. There are already too many ordinary horses out there.

If i breed my bay mare with a palomino stallion, what color might the baby be?

It depends on how dark the colour is.

Is it true that a purebred registered Arabian cannot be buckskin?

I recently read someone's reply about color, and they stated that Arabian horses, if purebred, cannot be a true buckskin. Now, I am not involved with the Arab breed, so there's alot of information I don't know, so I wanted some clarification. First of all, I believe you can have a purebred Arab that is a palomino. Correct? (Although I have been told it is not considered a traditional color and frowned upon by some of the purists) So if palomino exists in the Arab breed, then the cream gene exists. Correct again? If the cream gene exists, then why couldn't you get buckskin? All a buckskin is is - a bay horse with a single cream gene. If you bred a palomino mare to a bay stallion you certainly should be able to produce a buckskin. Let's remember that a dun is not a buckskin, dun is a totally different gene - not a cream gene but the dun gene - even though they look similiar (except a dun has the dark line down the back, and maybe other primitive markings) I just wanted to hear from a true Arab person with knowledge - does buckskin exist in 100% pure, registered Arabs?
Thanks for your help. I do love color genetic questions.
