Gold Plated Ring Vs Sterling Silver

Sterling silver vs. white gold plating?

I would also have recommended the sterling silver one.

Unfortunately, white gold plated will be a base metal (eg. nickel/brass) that has been electroplated with white gold (and possibly rhodium for the white shine). As the plating is only a few microns thick it will wear quite quickly. The only way to prevent the gold coming off is to not wear it! If you only wear it for special occasions it will maintain its plating for longer.

White gold is worth more $ than sterling silver but it has to be karat gold - eg. 10k, 14k, 18k etc.

Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and a 7.5% copper alloy to add hardness to it. Jewellery made with sterling silver can last a lifetime if looked after. It is prone to oxidisation but regular cleaning will keep it looking great.

18 karat gold plated 925 sterling silver ring vs just 925 sterling silver ring?

So I really need help on this. I'm trying to decide between two rings online. The price is not an issue since the gold plated ring is only 3 dollars more than the plain sterling silver ring. I want to know, if I get the 18kgp ring , will it wear out ugly? What I mean to say, is I know it will wear out to the silver color, but how will it wear out? Will it be all patchy from different areas on the ring and look weird? Or will it wear out evenly and just end up a regular sterling silver color?

I need to know because if it's going to wear out all patchy and weird, I'll just get the plain sterling silver ring to avoid that issue.

What do you guys suggest?

P.s. I'll be wearing this ring all day everyday. Showering with it...washing hands with it..etc :)

Thanks in advance!

Can I wear a ring that is, 18k white gold plated 925 sterling silver, all the time?

First off CONGRATULATIONS! :)

For your 1st option, 18K White Gold Plated on 925 Sterling Silver: White gold is basically gold that is colored "white". Over time the yellow of the gold will start to show and your option would be to get to re-coated with white gold. Another concern to take into consideration is that gold or silver will dent or scratched over time, especially if it's worn all the time. You can get this fixed by taking it to a professional jeweler or jewelry repair and have it restored to its original luster.

Your 2nd option, 18K White Gold Plated on Jewelry Brass: You would incur the same issue as the above with the white plated gold. However, since this is your engagement/wedding ring I would opt for the sterling silver versus the brass.

If you are looking for a white-toned ring but do not want to deal with having to get it re-plated every so often (usually once every 6-12 months to keep the ring looking like it originally did when you first purchased it) you should consider alternative metals. Tungsten Carbide is available in white. It's lightweight and will not scratch or look dull over time:

Sterling silver vs 14k white gold.?

Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper or another metal. Fine silver is 99.9 pure. White gold is an alloy of yellow gold and a white metal usually nickle or Palladium. White gold will have a very small amount of yellow showing and is usually Rhodium plated to give a silver look and will fade in time due to wear and acidity levels in the skin and will have to be re plated. Sterling silver will tarnish faster but can be polished.

Sterling Silver vs. 10k White Gold?

a 10kt ring is about 40% gold and is a lot more expensive then silver. Most silver rings have a plating on them to keep them from tarnishing which eventually wears off and can't easily be put back on, and if you need to have the ring sized, the plating also wears off. Silver also isn't as strong as gold in holding the stone. It would be better in the long run to go with the gold ring, it's easier to maintain and you can always bring it back to it's original state. However if you're on a budget you can save a lot of money by choosing a silver ring, and you can always get a nicer ring when you can afford to after that one wears out. Happy ring shopping.

Sterling silver vs. white gold?

White gold will last heaps longer than Sterling Silver...I have white gold bracelets too,

Do sterling silver rings hold up better than Sterling dipped into platinum?

It makes the ring shine better and last a lot longer. Every 925 Sterling Silver ring from 6Grape Fine Jewelry is Platinum plated. I would recommend their website or their ETSY shop which has 100s of 5 Star reviews also. Some people like the rougher more “natural” look of silver without the plating but in my opinion it dosen’t look quite as nice. Also, some people can’t wear regular silver for allergy reasons so make sure you only buy 925 Sterling Silver and nothing with just silver or silver plated jewelry which is always a poor idea. Check out 6Grape.

What is platinum plated sterling silver?

The main material is pure silver, commonly known as pure silver, and then plated with a layer of platinum. Platinum is an alloy of gold and other precious metals. Electroplating has only a very thin layer. The pure silver thus treated is not easily faded and blackened, and the color is bright and beautiful for a long time. However, ready-made jewelry, silver gold plating is generally not full silver, generally S925, which is 92.5% silver alloy, this alloy is better than silver in hardness and oxidation resistance, more suitable for jewelry, silver plating should be rare Because the silver is soft and easy to deform, the deformation will destroy the coating, so the platinum plating of pure silver has little meaning. If it is plated with platinum, it will not fade. If sterling silver, it will darken for a long time. The above information comes from Brass Jewellery Manufacturer Shenzhen YIBI Jewelry News.
