Can you suggest 5 songs that my band can cover?

It will depend on your band’s skill level. You want to play songs people will know, obviously. But you should also try to separate yourselves from other bands. It's not necessary for every band to play “My Own Worst Enemy”. Try these out.Where Is My Mind? - The Pixies - Its not overplayed but a lot of people know it. It's not very difficult and this band was probably influential on many of your favorite bands.Fast Car - Tracy Chapman - Another song that's not very difficult, but needs to be tight. People know it, but I haven't heard a cover band do it.Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac - It's a classic that people of different ages know and like. If you want a more driving, hard rock version, check out Seaweed’s cover.Ooh La La - Faces - It's pretty well known. This one may turn into a sing along with the right crowd.Mrs. Robinson - The Lemonheads - Do I really have to explain why?

Good Japanese songs for an alto to cover?

First off, so everyone is clear, I am a girl!
Alright, I'm having a bit of a hard time finding 2 songs to cover for an audition I'm doing soon, and the songs have to be Japanese (as it's an audition for something in Japan). Preferably Jpop or Jrock!
If they're already sung in an alto or mezzo-soprano range, that would be lovely, but if not I guess I could always just transpose it down to my range :P
I was originally thinking of singing "Melody" by Noriaki Sugiyama (the song is really pretty) and "Kingyo Hanabi" by Ai Otsuka.
I keep changing my mind about those two, though and I've gone through my entire iTunes library (something like 200 songs) for Jpop and Jrock songs and haven't been able to find one I like. I need some new tunes to listen to, so if you could help me out and suggest some songs for me to try, that would be great~ :D
Thank you~ :)

What are some good blues/rock songs for a five piece band to cover?

Thanks for the A2AA lot of the early material from the Rolling Stones/Zeppelin/Alexis Korner and other 60s/70s bands were old blues numbers rehashed and adapted for a more modern feel. Any of these number would be recognised by both blues fans and rock fans, old and young and have them foot tapping. Listen to both the new and the old and find a balance that fits your band and audience style. Examples are things like (famous recent versions in parentheses)Little Red Rooster (Stones)Spoonful (Cream)Bring it on home (Zeppelin)Sweet Home Chicago (blues brothers)Stormy Monday (Allman Brothers Band)These are just a few examples, there are hundreds to be found ranging from Robert Johnson to BB to Sonny Boy Williamson and Willie Dixon and hundreds more. I've just tried to give you a few that would be recognisable almost universally. I could probably pull together a huge list for you, but music research that's the biggest part of the fun of music.Hope this helps you.

What are good songs to play for a cover band with two guitarists, one keyboard player and one drummer?

Any song you want. Instrumentation should only be a limit to covering a song if the band is attempting to perform the song exactly as it is originally performed. There are basically two schools of thought on covering songs. 1) perform the song as close to the most widely known recording by the original artist. Get every tone, every note and every subtle inflection to perfectly mimic the original artist. This is what tribute bands strive for. 2) perform the song as a new work of art based upon the original. There are varying degrees to which this approach is executed. Sometimes the goal is to convey the basic message, sentiment, melody and familiar foundation of the song. At other times the song is all but dismantled by the cover artist and reconstructed with a different mood, and pov while leaving melody and lyrics in changed. Alien Ant Farm's cover of "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson is a good example of this broad change. So, what songs are good for your instrumentation? If you are operating from the second school of thought ... All of them.

Are UB40 a cover band?

Yes and no, they did three albums of cover songs paying respect to the origial musicians. All original musicians were creditied on thier CDs. These three CDs were called Labour Of Love I, II, and III, because of the music they love and grew up with.

I have in my collection over 50 other CDs and CD singles that are all originals written and performed by UB40. Listen carefully to many of thier politiccally oriented tunes. From old tunes like Tyler (about a young black american railroaded with no proof to spend his life in jail), to Cover Up ( a pro condom tune about AIDS in Africa), UB40 has a lot to say.

A CD that may interest you is a CD by the original artists performing some of the songs covered by UB40. Check out Tribute To UB40 Red Gold Green. Even their name has a political message, UB40 is the name of an unemployment form in the UK.

Another fact that may interest you is that when UB40 covered these songs and paid the original artists their due royalties, it was the first time some of them ever made a dime off the songs. Although to many UB40 is known as a pop/reggae band, there is much respect for them by many in JA.
