Why do Jamaican DJ's interrupt their songs with strange sounds and then restart the song?
I was recently in Jamaica for a holiday. We were staying near a club and could hear the music. Every 30 seconds or so, the DJ would make a "space-invaders"/"80's drum machine" type sound and then restart the song or start a new song. Why do they do that? It just seemed irritating, especially when I liked the song they were playing.
