How do you make a newspaper/magazine in Microsoft Publisher?
There are templates, but no proper magazine designer use them, because they look cheap and degrading. Do you know where you can get experience in magazine layout? Where else to look than magazines in shop shelves??? You can achieve professional outlook with simple coloured rectangles, but there is no definite rule in magazine design as long as it looks appealing. How can I say this? Art isn't something you can learn from set equations and rules, there's a reason why art is creative, because each individual's perception of art is unique. Microsoft Publisher does have VERY CHEAP looking templates, which you can get from the "Templates" section (should've guessed?). But then each magazine has different lengths of text, and when you use a template that's supposed to be generally applicable, it will just look unnatural.
Whats the difference between printing and publishing?
This is not a dictionary definition but it should help you. PUBLISHING is writing or preparing books, magazines or newspapers for PUBlic distribution. PRINTING is basically applying ink to paper, regardless of the format. Anything that has ink on paper is a printed piece, but not necessarily a published piece.
How to i get to publish a magazine?
I'ts actually pretty easy as I've helped other do it depending on the kind of magazine you want. If you mean a rag-sheet type, you can get contributors to write for free and self publish using one of your smaller newspaper printing facilities. You do need to have someone with graphic and layout experience. If you mean something more upscale, create an LLC (like Joe Blow Publishing) and start looking for printing companies. Keep in mind that magazines need to be published by pages of four (4,8,12,16 etc.) because of layout. Then find your mission (spell it out) and do a study on your target audience and their buying power unless it is a free mag then you need to really look at an advertising base to cover costs. I'd recommend starting an LLC (limited liability comp.) to cover you from liable lawsuites. I have several business plans I can but and paste for you if you need. Keep in mind your area, demographics, openness to yoru message, target audience, cost factors (overhead and distribution), availablity of sources/articles and most important, who you are competing against. If it is a brand new idea, first find out why no one else has thought of it. Then, google similar publications that are not in your competitive range and ask questions (it helps to pose as a grad student studying marketing or journalism). Hope this helps.
Should newspapers & book publishers convert to elec publishing over paper publishing as their primary product?
As long as we have canaries in the house ( and no doubt that will be a long time! ) we will continue buying the newspaper. I find it uncomfortable to take a computer to bed with me to read a bit before going to sleep, and only an e-book in the bathroom???? And when I study, I can't write notes in the margins of the computer monitor. No, they shouldn't change quickly.
