Good Strasberg Studio In Nyc

Lee Strasberg U.S. or RADA London?

What's so bad with Strasberg? I've already studied parts of Stanislavki, but I feel Strasberg is more prestigous and internationally well known with lots of successfull students.

Lee Strasberg Acting Institute in London?

The official Lee Strasberg Institute has schools in NYC and LA.
If you google "Lee strasberg" and london you will find several schools that teach his acting method, but they are not the "official" Lee Strasberg schools.

REPLY: The American institutes were founded and taught by Lee Strasberg himself. The london school is taught by one of his students who teaches his technique. So, really, now that Lee Stasberg is dead, they may be very similiar since both schools are taught by former students of his who are carrying on his theories.

Is this acting school ''Lee strasberg'' a good acting school to go to?

1st, bless your mom's heart if she's paying for you to study. 200/mo is not a lot of money for acting classes. 2nd, strasberg was a quack. he was a star-maker and another term that's not appropriate here. stanislavski himself said that stella adler was the only western actor who truly understood what he was trying to do. and, by the way, thought this 'method' business was a lot of crap. unfortunately, adler's conservatory is truly expensive. i spent 20 years in nyc and you have to do research but there are tons of schools/coaches/teachers--many will let you audit classes so by all means do. i studied at HB which is a world-class studio and it was part of uta hagen's legacy that actors should always have an AFFORDABLE place to study their craft. going to strasberg's clown school is not what made those actors good or famous. if you want to induldge in twisted psychotherapy, go. get a copy of 'backstage'--they list scores of schools and coaches. see some teachers in action. talk to students. see their workshop productions. then decide. if you want to waste your time and money, then strasberg is for you. besides that, it's by audition. al pacino was told to go home 5 times before he was 'accepted'. do you honestly think he was 'better' the 6th time? rip off. you can do a lot better. and going to any school does not get you work. the 'business' is 98% about rejection, so work on developing a thick skin.

As far as getting an agent goes - I think its important for you to understand what they do, and how they do it. An Agent is pretty much like a sales person. Their responsibility is present a product (aka a client "Actor") to potential buyers (Casting Director, Director, Producers, etc) where this particular product would be a good fit. (For example, a role in a script)

If an actor who has never had any training, experiences (credits), and a reel... it will be very difficult for an Agent to pitch you to the casting office. Therefore, agents are less likely to represent actors with very little credits or no experience. A professional headshot and resume is also part of an Actor's marketing tool.

So i personal think training should be the very first thing for an inspiring actor. In school, you will develop the necessary skills to be an actor. Depending on your school policies, you can probably start auditioning for Student Films, Off-Off Broadway Theatre shows, so you can gain audition experience, and probably add non-school credits to your resume.

By the time you are about to finish your training, some school would host a showcase where they invites agents and managers to see their graduating students. Some actors get signed that way.

Other alternative would be, starring in a wonderful show and get great reviews. Agents will come to see the show and will show interests in signing you if they are fan of your work.

So it really comes down to - being a good actor.
