Guppy Maternity When Should I Put Her In Too A Breeding Box

When do i put pregnant guppy in breeding box?

I would put her in now, just to be on the safe side.

When should I put my pregnant guppy in the breeding box?

I've had to answer alot of questions like this lately and here is what i think you should know, As well as when to put her in.

First of all i have 3-5 pregnant guppys at all times and i always keep the tanks in the manner that i describe below.

Do you have live plants? if you need a quick fix for a lack of live plants run out to the store and buy some mondo grass, its typically kept in tanks with peacock eels. purchasing 2-3 of these and letting them freely float at the surface is the ideal birthing location for a female guppy.

You need to provide a calm area away from other fish. Birthing boxes, Mesh fry Boxes, Birthing traps, all of these can be used BUT you NEED to make sure that she is removed either 16-24 hours after being placed inside, Or right after she finishes birthing.

Some guppys will halt the birthing process after they birth 7-13 babys ( general number, not exact) and wait a few more days to birth the rest.

I raise and breed guppys and you need to have top floating plants as well as a calm non harassed area for her to birth.
For raising they fry i use a TopFin Net Breeder, they cost about 5 dollars at petsmart but work for small fry.
TopFin is the maker, Net breeder is the product. this is what i use to raise the young guppy fry to adulthood. this will keep them safe and you don't have to buy, cycle, and prepare another tank just for fry.

I prefer the TopFin Net Breeder because it is a mesh box that allows good water circulation, and it takes up very little room. I keep my fry inside it untill they are about 0.75 inches, Much larger then that and they become crowded and could die easily. I just keep them in untill they are too large to be swallowed up by the other guppys in the tank.

Some info on guppy fry, they need plants to hide in to grow quickly, i would suggest Java Moss. its usually about $4.59 at petco, you fluff it out and it makes an ideal hiding spot and food source for the young fry. Also Hikari First bites fish food is what i use to promote rapid growth of my guppy fry.

Guppy fry needs to be fed 4-5 times a day where as adults should be fed 2 times a day.
Feeding amounts should be consumed withing 5 min for fry, 3 min for adults.

When can i put my guppy into the breeding net, is it a good idea?

Don't to early put the pregnant female guppy in breeding tank as you may stress the female and cause sudden death to the poor fish.

Here are some of the normal situation you will noticed when your livebearer including molly, guppy, platy, swordtail and other are in labour.

You can see :

1.the hold just under its anus open became more bigger or obvious. The place where eventually the fry will come out.

2.The fish will tend to hide in the area that have less fish such as cornered of the tank.

3.Always go near the filter ,aquatic plant, wood.stone or rock to get shelter for its fry.

4.Some may also not even eat before giving and during birth process.

Beware the livebearer such as mollies may even eat or consume their young.

Try to separate the mother and fry using a breebing tank/trap.

Here are the photo of the breeding tank:

Tips:

Feed the female with mix diet of food like food pellet, worm and supplement with green food and vitamins to get more yield or fry.

Hope my advise will help you on this matter.

When should I put my guppy in the breeder box?

Personally I wouldn't.. It depends on your set up but for me (65L) I found putting the mother in a breeder stressed her out too much. SO, what i did was buy some plastic plants (big green fake ball) the kind that can be broken into smaller bits.
I broke off all of the leaves and made a nest floating in the top of the tank. So in one corner I have a couple of strategically placed plants under water (in the corner) then float all of the broken off leaves (some about thumb size, some bigger) above that. If done correctly it makes a little hole under water where (hopefully) the mother can swim into and resurface the other side (in the corner) and be surrounded by the floating plants..
The very next morning I came down to find 5 babies and this carried on for a few days..
Then I used a very little cup thing to get the babies and put them into a floating breeder.
(only for a few weeks though) the other fish will generally only eat them while they are tiny fry, plus they have a built in nursery (all those plants) in the tank to play hide and seek..

I made this video to show you.. (this question gets asked alot)

Is a fish breeding box a good idea to put a pregnant guppy in?

With this situation timing is crucial!
You don't have to necessarily put her in the breeding box if the main tank has cover for the fry.
If the guppy looks like she is about to explode and her gravid spot is a very deep brown or black and she is swimming slowly and near the bottom of the tank and/or hiding behind objects then i would advise you put her in the breeding box. If not the i wouldn't

When should I put my pregnant guppies into my breeder box?

I have a baby saver box for my fry (I breed guppies) and the first time she had her fry I didn't know my guppy was pregnant...so she had her fry in the tank. I'm sure some were eaten ='( So, soon after this I bought the baby breeder/saver box for my female guppies. Link:

http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Accessories-Nursery-isolation-container/dp/B002DVREJO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1310624344&sr=8-3

Currently, I'm using it as a nursery for my fry, since the box I bought can be used as a fry saver and a nursery for the fry to live in inside of the aquarium(all seven of my fry are thriving by the way! Haven't lost one! They're about a month old now =]) Anyways, my question is at what point should I put my pregnant female guppies in the breeder box with the divider and slots for the fry to escape through? I have two females, both are pregnant(the box has a divider for use with two guppies) but I don't know when or how long they have been pregnant. I know about the dark spot, and they are quite big now, and the spot is very dark on one of them. But...I put both in the breeder box the other day and they freaked out. I don't want to stress them out or hurt them! So when would be a good time to put them in the box? I don't want to lose any more fry...I plan on selling them to my local fish dealer.

Putting a pregnant platy in a breeding box, stress her out?

Hi,
Putting her in a breeding box/net/trap shouldn't upset the male and will relieve the female from him chasing her round, but the breeding trap can stress the female out, sometimes making her abort the pregnancy. However, if she doesn't abort, the breeding trap will save many fry. In most breeding traps you can keep the fry inside to be reared, but some are designed to keep the mother in a box with holes for the fry to escape down out (supposedly into a separate breeding tank), which will not be suitable for the purpose of keeping them in the main tank. Another way to raise the fry is to densely plant the aquarium (java moss works well if you have some) with heavily planted corners and also I've found a layer/heap of large marbles with gaps large enough for fry works well too. This method is less stressful to the mother, but a far lower number of fry will survive to adulthood.
But, remember to consider how many platies you want, because, as you probably know are prolific spawners, and can quickly overcrowd a tank. Consider the option of selling extra fish to your LFS (if they accept stock from local breeders), but if they refuse, think of where the will fry go to.
Young female platies (those who are pregnant for the first time) release 12-30 young but a large platy can release up to 100! Female platies release fry every 3-4 weeks on average, so 50 fry every 3-4 weeks is quite a number which you may want to think about!
So, good luck and I hope this helped :)

When do i put my pregnant guppy in the breeding box?

If you notice one or all of these symptoms put her in the box. Wait for two days, if no babies appear, release her back into the tank, for if she is in the box for too long, she'll get stressed/lonely.
- Not eating (look closely to see if she spits out food)
-sqaurish belly look from the side
- hiding in plants, by filter
If she is trying to birth, she may be leaning downwards and not moving... I got my guppies April 2nd, my two females are pregnant! Hoping for babies soon... excited!!!
Best Wishes!

Pregnant guppy in a breeder box problems! help please!!?

Every time I have bred my guppies the female swam up and down whether it was in the breed net that I have or in the isolation tank. The move will cause stress so be sure after you move her that there are no other possible stressers. I have had much success with the breeder net and am currently raising some fry that were born in one about 4 weeks ago. The mother is doing fine as well. She is in the fry tank with her babies since the males won't leave her alone in the community tank. She doesn't chase her babies but she is also fed quite regularly. If you have her in the breeder box, don't move her again as this can stress her even further and may cause her to abort her fry which may cause her to die as well. If you are wanting to keep the fry you have two choices. One, put her in the breeder box (or leave her there if she already is) or two, catch the fry that are free-swimming as best as you can. If you go with two odds are that you aren't going to be able to save many but if you are worried about the mother this may be a better choice. If there are places in your tank where the fry can hide then they will naturally gravitate to these areas. Good luck!

Can I put two pregnant guppies in one breeder box together?

I in simple terms could desire to declare i'm surprised you got fish devoid of even studying on them.... "how are you able to tell in the journey that your guppy in simple terms had toddlers?" -> you may see some toddlers in the tank. the female frequently is going all the way down to conceal in the previous giving start. The bloated abdomen needless to say will shrink. "how are you able to tell in the journey that your guppy is pregnant?" -> in the event that they have been with a mature male for even an afternoon they are already pregnant and could keep sufficient sperm of their bodies to advance into pregnant two times back in the absence of a male. "how are you able to're making them mate. or do they on their very own?" -> They do it on their very own. the honestly mating consultation is basically a million 2nd. there's a good risk you ignored it. Guppies breed swifter than mice. you could not end them fairly. "how are you able to tell whilst the infant guppies are waiting to be with the adults?" -> a million month outdated fry can connect the adults. "How in many situations do you need to feed the adults. AND the toddlers?" -> Adults: a pair of times an afternoon, make helpful they end the food in below 2 minutes. toddlers i might feed thrice an afternoon and save moss of their tank which could advance some algae and microorganisms to consume. "could desire to THE PREGNANT lady BE removed from different GUPPIES OR CLOSED OFF FROM THEM on an identical time as HAVING start OR WILL THE FRY BE high quality???" -> FYI, person Guppies will consume any infant guppies they are able to slot of their mouth. This additionally includes their mom. After giving start she will have the capacity to not hesitate to consume them. you're able to be able to desire to the two get rid of her to a diverse tank to grant start or supply the fry hiding areas.
