Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Laguardia Acting Studio

Should I go to Stuyvesant or LaGuardia?

Depends on the type of career you would pursue. If you go to LaGuardia, you will be in a better position to go into a performing career or artistic career. But concerning *any* other career, you will probably get better requisite education at Stuy and have higher chances of getting into better colleges. Even the types of careers LaGuardia specializes in have enrichment programs in Stuy; there are plenty of music electives, APs, extracurriculars, and student run organizations for the arts and performances. Additionally, a large percentage of the student body plays an instrument(if not multiple) and performs in recitals.TL;DR: LaGuardia only if you are SURE you want to do a creative career. If not, pick Stuy, you have better options.

I didnt get to laguardia arts. did anyone else get rejected?

First of all, I'm sorry that you didn't get into Laguardia.

You should know several things:

The Drama studio is small. More girls audition than boys. So it's pretty hard for a girl to get in. Don't feel bad.

Many kids who do get in have taken acting classes, which helped them prepare for the audition. Some worked with a private teacher. If you do decide to reapply next year, be sure to work with an adult when you prepare for your audition. If you can get a real acting teacher to work with you, do so.

There is another really good performing arts school in Queens. It's called Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. You should definitely look into that school.

My daughter is a senior at Laguardia (but not in Drama). She also applied to Sinatra, and we both liked Sinatra a lot.

Good luck.

Where can I go for audition prep for LaGuardia Arts monologue audition?

Acting Classes NYC will break down your monologue, record it, and send you the footage for free (first class free for a limited time) for you to review! Enjoy and good luck!

Is this play inappropriate for a drama audition with laguardia high school? (Play is below)?

First of all, the FAQs for the Laguardia High School drama studio auditions say:

"Q: What kind of monologue should I prepare?
A: Prepare 2 one-minute, contrasting monologues, i.e. 1 – comedic and 1 – dramatic, from published plays or monologue books. The characters you are portraying should be young – close to your own age. Avoid playing characters with obvious physical or speech characteristics very different from your own. Monologues should not be verse or from classical works, such as Shakespeare or Molieré.

Q: Can I prepare something I’ve written myself or something that is not from a play?
A: No. Do not select pieces that you have written yourself or passages from novels, short stories, poems, or screenplays."

Is this from a published play? If not, DON'T do it!

Second of all, the auditions are this weekend. This is VERY late to still be looking for a monologue! You should have started rehearsing this weeks ago!

LaGuardia High School drama audition?

I just had my laguardia high school audition for drama today. I actually wasn't that nervous and think I did pretty well. I was very prepared for the audition, having taken private acting lessons for the past month, and had fun saying my two monologues! However, I just have one question cause I'm kinda of confused on this. I went into the room, performed my monologues in front of the panelists and then read the cold read that they asked me to do. And then I was done. I said thank you, walked out of the room and then was told I can go home now.. And I'm just confused as to why it was so quick. I mean, the other kids auditioning had to just stay outside the door and weren't sent home so quickly? (Maybe because some of them were still filling out the question sheet we had gotten, while I was already finished.) But still, doesn't the school hold like callbacks or something? My audition literally took 1 hour and then I had left already. Is it not good that I didn't get a 'callback'? Does this mean that I can't get in or that they didn't like me? I feel that I did great but I don't know. Can someone who is familiar with the drama program tell me if it's normal for them to send someone home this quickly? Can I still get in without a callback? Or without even getting to do improv for them? Thanks. (And sorry this is so long... I really want to get in!)

Advice for an audition at LaGuardia High School!?

I am currently in the seventh grade & I go to a talented and gifted school in New York City for math, science & technology. I have a passion for the creative arts and I really want to go to LaGuardia. Sadly, I'm not that good in mathematics & I'm not doing very good in the attendance department, but I have really good grades in ELA and passing grades in other subjects & I have perfect behavior and do my work.
When it comes to the creative arts, I have been told I am an amazing singer and I have been in glee club for both 6th and 7th grade, plus I have an ambition for acting & theater. I am a type of person that can bottle up their feelings easily & can think on the negative side even though I'm the optimistic person. I was wondering if anyone could give me information on how those auditions go & any advice to increase the chances of me getting in? Thank you!

How hard is it to get into laguardia arts school?

I am a grad of the dance department. If you have talent, it isn't hard. If you have had good training it is easier for those people. Laguardia still looks for potential for those who audition going into 9th grad. If you are auditioning in the 9th grade for 10th grade, they are looking for someone with more training.
Audition tip for dance:
You will have a ballet class, followed by a modern class.
If you get a call back for dance. you are required to have a 60 sec. solo. You will not be able to do the entire solo (too many people) so just put your best stuff into the first 30 secs. You may only get to do 15-20 seconds of it so wow them at the top. Stay away from floor work.
Good luck!
It was a great experience going to that school.

Audition Process for Drama Major at LaGuardia High School?

My daughter attends Laguardia high school.

I can't answer your questions about the drama audition, but I can answer some other questions.

The admissions people at Laguardia only use grades as a cut off. Higher grades won't get you in (but low grades can keep you out.) Only your audition can actually get you in.

Of course you're not expected to be as good as the kids who have already been training at Laguardia for 4 years. Why would you need to go there is you were already that good? But it IS very competative. Most kids who apply do not get in. I would recommend taking a drama class now to help you prepare. Perhaps your drama teacher could even help you prepare your monologue for your audition. If not, find an adult who will help. Don't ask a friend to help and don't try to prepare all by yourself.

All of your absences are for good reasons. You should get a note from your doctor to use for documentation. And yes, you should use the application to explain all your absences. But don't worry. If you are under 10 incidence of absence and lateness, you'll be fine on that score.

Good luck.
