Have A Bad Cough And My Chest Hurts What Could It Be

Why does my chest hurt when i cough?

it sounds like a normal cold.
caused by viruses - you can't take antibiotics for them.

your chest hurts because all the muscles which allow you to cough have been used so much they've become inflamed. also all the pleura, and things around the lungs which are compressed when you cough are a little sore from coughing so much. it's just a sucky thing.

if your still worried go to your local physician who will check you over - definitely go if you still have it by 3-4days for sure.

try drinking hot water + lemon, ginger, or oranges.

My chest hurts when I cough. What's wrong?

If you are getting over it you probably will be fine. If it is worsening you need to see your doctor. You could either have pulled a muscle in and or around your ribs from coughing hard or you could have pleuralitis( an infection of the lining of the sack that covers the lung), and inflammation in and around the lungs, so if this feels worse after tonight maybe you should see you doctor, what your doctor would do is probably put you on an antibiotic if she thought you have pleuralitis.

Chest pain from coughing?

If you cough too much you can fracture a rib or dislocate a cartilage but this is extremely rare and unlikely. More commonly you strain a muscle or get cramp in a muscle on the chest or between the ribs. You can also strain the joints connecting the ribs to the breastbone. If you feel fine now, then it's very unlikely to be anything to be concerned about but if you can still feel it, take an antiinflammatory like ibuprofen (if there's no medical reason why you shouldn't be taking them). If it's still there much tomorrow, could always play it safe and go see a doc. Hope it settles. Oh, and if you're asthmatic with a cough, unless you have a secretory form, consider that you may need to be using more of the preventative steroid spray or be using the bronchodilator spray regularly, even if only over this period.

Sore throat, chest hurts, but no cough, what could this be?

The past 3-4 days I've had a real bad sore throat, it looks real bloody red. Then yesterday I woke up with chest and back pain. My chest feels real heavy/bruised like feeling, and my upper back is really sore like I've been working out. I have not been coughing at all, no headache, no sinus complaints. I am also very, very tired. I'm stumped as to what it could be. I would think bronchitis I would be coughing, etc. Or could it be a coincidence that I just happen to have a sore throat, and my chest/back pain could be gallbladder related?

Can u pull a muscle in your chest from coughing?

Yes you can certainly pull muscles from coughing but you may also have a pneumothorax (partially collapsed lung). If you experience pain when breathing or are short of breath you need to get to the doctor immediately.

If it's "just" a pulled muscle it's going to take a while to heal but your doctor may be able to provide some medications to help relieve the cough and associated muscle pain. You may need to take Tylenol or other pain reliever for a couple of days but be sure it won't have an interaction with other medications (both prescription and over-the-counter).

Why do I feel pain in my chest when I sneeze and cough?

Pleuritis. Also known as pleurisy, this condition is an inflammation or irritation of the lining of the lungs and chest. You likely feel a sharp pain when you breathe, cough, or sneeze. The most common causes of pleuritic chest pain are bacterial or viral infections, pulmonary embolism, and pneumothorax.Azon.ly/y2ko

My Chest hurts when i cough? Really need answers!?

I am a Resp Care Practioner and have been for over 20 years. You really need to get and x-ray of your chest, culture of your sputum (cough up some sputum in a sterile container so a Med-Tech can analyze it, to determine what bug you have, and what type of antibiotic works best for whatever bug you have. unless it is a virus, and anitbiotics do not work on them.

Yes you need to see a DR. why be afraid! it is not open heart surgery!!! Questions your Dr. will ask; how long have you felt like this, what color is your sputum, what it taste like (just kdding on that one;-) he will need to know how thick or thin it is, but you stated you cough it up with ease. So that should be no problem. I would encourage to do this especially if you have had this awhile. You will need treatment. Oh, do you smoke? If so, stop while your sick with this. hopefully you can stop for good. But that's other story.
Good Luck

Get as much rest as you can and sleep in a semi reclined position or use extra pillows .Mild analgesia may help with low grade fever and the pain u have when coughing.

What does it mean when my chest hurts after inhaling second hand smoke?

Go get checked out for asthma.  It is entirely possible that 14 years of second hand smoke has given you asthma and/or some other breathing problems.  Most likely not a heart attack if you're not a smoker, but get checked anyway.  When we had our baby in cancer treatment we met a gal who both her parents smoked, she did not, but she'd been in treatment for lung cancer at age 19.  Her mom was dying of lung cancer and that was why she was there at the time.Get the doc on your side and figure out what kind of legal action you can take.  14 years old is not too young to become emancipated from your parents.  You do NOT want to go through cancer treatment if you can avoid it.

Is it bad if i cough out brownish/gray phelgm from my lungs?

You could have C.O.P.D. (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease),It is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. "Progressive" means the disease gets worse over time.

COPD can cause coughing that produces large amounts of mucus (a slimy substance), wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms.

Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD. Most people who have COPD smoke or used to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritants, such as air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust, also may contribute to COPD.
Most people who have COPD have both emphysema and chronic obstructive bronchitis.
