Why do people believe in god?

Ok, first off, you say you formed these beliefs when you were under the influence of poison. (Alcohol and drugs.) You honestly think your brain works better if you feed it with poison?
I believe in God because I look out into the night sky and see thousands upon thousands of stars in our galaxy, which is one of countless galaxies in the universe. I look at any one star and think 'that star might have a solar system'. And if it has a solar system, it might have life. Or even if it doesn't, just look at a star sometime. It's among the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
I believe in God because out of all the places the particular bits of stardust that make up my body could have ended up, they ended up in the immensely complex arrangement they're in right now, which allows me to talk to you about this is the first place. And it's just vastly complex. Mind-bogglingly.
I believe in God because I open up my heart and listen to God, and I hear a calling to cooperate with other people and care for, not exploit the earth.
I believe in God because I believe that humans are among the smartest species on earth, second to dolphins, maybe. And if we're the smartest, and the only ones that are religious, it seems like there might be a correlation.

But really, I consider your question easily answered and trivial. It took me about a day of rational, conscious thought to realize there is a God. I wake up every day and do my best to devote my life to him. And I know, I can just feel, that it doesn't go down the drain. God put this bit of stardust in place for a reason. I'd hate to disappoint him.

Why did Gregor Mendel use pea plants in his experiments?

Gregor Mendel chose the pea plants for his experiments because the garden pea is an ideal subject in the study of genetics for the following reasons:-- presence of observable traits with contrasting forms-- produces many offspring in one cross-- short life cycle-- ease in manipulating pollination (cross pollination)Pea plants had the following chacracteristics:plants were sexually reproducing with bisexual flowersself pollination and self fertilization is possiblethe life cycle was completed in one seasonhybrids were perfectly fertilemany varieties with well-defined characters were available i.e. presence of seven pairs of contrasting or allelomorphic charactersPea plants (leguminosae) have an irregular flower in which the top part of the corolla is much larger than the lower part (Hitchcock and CronquistFlora of the Pacific Northwest p228). If you haven't ever seen a pea flower, it looks much like a snap dragon bloom. This feature keeps the flowers from freely pollinating each other by wind, as they are tightly shut. If protected from pollinating insects, they will only self pollinate, or if the anthers are clipped off they can be very selectively pollinated by a person. This gave Mendel much tighter control over the crossbreeding of the plants.Because pea plants are easy to propagate and have 7 observable traits like Seed Shape, seed color, Seed coat color, pod shape, flower position and stem lengthThis can be speculated, but pea plants were probably picked because of their ability to reproduce quickly. If Gregor Mendel had used an animal, he would have had to wait many years before being able to study the passing on of traits. He chose them because they are quick and easy to grow and several peas are produced in each pod. It is fortunate that he chose the plant that he did, and that he chose the characteristics he did to observe. Some plants would have been much more difficult to work with.

Isn't it odd? I jest read a question asking who someone would be willing to die for. Almost all answered?

that they would be willing to die for or in place of their children. Thats a noble thing and I agree. God calls ALL PEOPLE HIS CHILDREN. Believers AND non-belivers, for all time, are called and He considers, His children. Why is it when God, via Jesus did exactly that, died for us, that people mock and reject Him? He died in our place to win our salvation but He is ridiculed and rejected because of it. Why? That's the very thing people say they respect the most and would do for their children. Whey do people honor other people when they say they would do such a thing, but not honor God for it? God didn't just say it, He DID it! Read John 3:16. What does it say? Read the accounts of Jesus life, death, resurrection

in the New Testament. What, why did Jesus do what He did? He was/is God. Holy, sinless etc. He gives up His stature, is tortured, sacrifices His life for us, but some don't accept or honor Him for it .Why? He did the best thing for us but some don't appreciate it-Why?
