Help I Think My Betta Fish Has An

Help! I think my Betta fish has dropsy!?

One of my Betta fish, Skye, has been acting oddly lately. For a few days now he has mostly just been swimming awkwardly along the surface. I didn't think much about it. But just now my 6 year old brother said he threw up. I ran over to the tank to see what was up. I'm not sure if he really did throw up, but my attention definitely fell on my poor fish.

Ever since I got him he seemed to be really skinny. My other Betta was more oval shaped, but he resembled a pencil. When I looked at him I realized that the big gut he was starting to grow couldn't be normal on the rest of his body. I looked closely at his scales, and I think he's starting to pinecone slightly. I googled dropsy and looked at pictures, and I'm afraid he might have it!

I am so worried for my little fish! I feel really stupid for not having any medication on hand in the first place. I'm preparing a small amount of brine shrimp and bloodworms to hopefully give him a little boost until I can get something tomorrow after school. What should I get? I also feel stupid that I don't have any hospital tank for the guy; he shares a divided, heated 5 gallon with my other Betta. Can I safely treat them together?

How can you help a dying betta fish?

I’m so sorry to hear, if this is your fish. Is his or her death eminent at this time? If your Betta fish is dying and you've done all you can to turn things around to no avail, then comfort is all you can do. Take a glass bowl and fill it with his or her tank water, add a few drops of pure Clove Oil and put him or her to sleep when you feel it is time.[ Clove oil is used in medical procedures for larger fish to keep them alive, but very still and apparently unconscious or pain free. ]A few minutes, and a few more drops and he or she will be gone. I am sorry to the both of you and I wish you well.

HELP! i think my betta fish has an "itch" parasite.?

I need someones help!!! So last night i noticed my betta looking rather paler from the area of his head. I got scares and took him to the kitchen to see him in a better ligthing. There i noticed one white spot in what seems to be in the top of his head. Immeditly researched stuff and i came to the conclusion he has the "itch parasite". so i took him out his tank and put him in the cup he came in (i felt horrible because thats such a reduced space) and i went to sleep. I woke up today and he still has that same spot. I did more reseach, and i came to see it can also be fungus. I need someones help!! Is it fungus or the itch parasite? ive checked him out very well and thats the only spot he has. Its small and whats weird that for itch parasites the spots are scattered (like someone sprinkled salt). i really need someones help! i wanna get him the right medicine. Any advice or recommendations would be nice to deal with this situation

I think my betta fish is bulimic?

Before assuming that your Betta has any type of disease (based on your paragraph, I do not get that impression), I would say that your Betta is doing something quite common. However, this does not mean everything is ok.

In my experience, those dark brownish pellets that you usually buy at pet stores to feed Bettas are not their favorite food. Bettas love Bloodworms (you can find them in pet stores or online) and you can also give them flakes. I do not think your Betta is bulimic, probably he/she does not like that type of food. They do eat and spew out the pellets again and again before actually swallowing it. This softens the food. If you change its diet and he/she continues not eating propertly, then something else might be happening.

Note: You are doing good by watching your Betta every day and reading instructions on how to feed your fish. It is very easy to know the sex of your Betta, males have long fins and females have short rounded fins. Keep the good work!

I really think my betta fish is sick please help me?

The gnats mead that you are overfeeding the betta and they are living off the extra. Overfeeding result in poor quality water that will cause the fish to sicken. Change half of the water every other day for a week and then every third day for a week. Don't feed him for three or four days (he won't starve for at least a week but in this case if he gets hungry he can snack on the gnats). The gnats will starve themselves out but in future, feed about half of what you have been.

I think my betta fish is sick. He's kinda swollen. Can you help?

Everything about his body looks normal, except his head...I mean, from his gills forward. His whole head looks swollen...kinda like an anaphylactic reaction. His eyes are bigger than usual and a little cloudy. All of his scales on his head are all swollen and puffey. His mouth is extra big and odd shaped. He won't eat. He's pretty inactive and floats at an angle. He darts around his tank when he gets scared (he's always been a skittish fish).
I thought he was just inactive and not eating because I had let his water get too dirty....usually I just move him to new clean water and he perks right on up and eats....but not this time....
Do you know what it could be?

Thanks...

What can cause a betta fish to die?

A betta fish can die because of several reasons such as; 1. Overfeeding; generally causes constipation like symptoms and fish will have huge belly and this may affect the swim bladder so he is unable to swim properly and will die. I think if we compare overfeeding to not feeding, overfeeding causes more death. 2. Lack of proper diet; bettas are carnivore fish and they need high quality of protein sources. It is better to provide him live or frozen food. 3. Improper water conditions; even though bettas can survive in a small quantity of water putting too much food will poison the water and the fish will die. 4. Cold water; another misconception is betta can survive in room tempurature, it is not completely wrong, they can somehow survive but if you can call it living. You should have at least 25 degree Celsius to see the beauty of this fish. Fish will swim less if the water is too cold for him. 5. Other diseases; cold, fluctuating temperature of water, dirty water can cause several disaeses such as fungi and white spot, leading to death. 6. Improper tank mates; though its common name is Siamese Fighting Fish, they generally fight each other which causes death to one of them and they generally cannot compete with other fish. Since they are slow swimmers and cannot dive too long-they need to breath air from the surface- , they are just nipped, chased continously so on... 7. Jumping out of the water, Betta fish tend to jump out of the water to catch something so that will apparently cause death. You should put a lid over his tank. 8. Stress; disturbing the fish by humans, other fish or fluctuating water parameters may cause stress and the fish will try to hide himself anywhere he could find and the end will come. 9. Improper tank installation; if the tank was decorated with spiny hard objects and small caves betta may become stuck to them and may die. If the water motion is too much in the tank, betta will not compete with that as well.  10. Old age; every living thing has a life span, and that day will eventually come. IMO the biggest cruelty exposed to this beatiful and noble fish is putting them in to the small cups. They deserve properly maintained tank and good diet, if you cannot provide it simply just do not buy it.
