Help My Gums Are Swelling

Got my braces off, gums are swollen. Please help!?

Usually after having braces removed the orthodontist will suggest you have a professional cleaning to remove all that hard, harmful bacteria we call calculus. You would know it as "tartar". Tartar is hardened bacteria and your floss or your toothbrush cannot remove it. It grows under the gums and causes them to swell, because your body is trying to fight it's disease forming qualities, hence why your bleeding. You need to have it professionally scraped off and removed from your mouth. After that, the bleeding will stop and will have reversed the signs of gingivitis. If you do not have it removed, it will keep growing along the roots of your teeth and start affecting the bone that supports them, turning into a diseased state, called periodontal disease. Go to your general dental office and schedule for a cleaning, if there's any residual cement from your braces they will remove that too. After all you want to smile and show off those beautiful, straight teeth!

I'm 13 and my gums are swollen! I think I have gingivitis. HELP!?

sometimes if you overbrush or brush too vigorously the gums can become swollen , if they are not discolored (like green or brown) then i would just assume that its because of the brushing . sometimes when you floss you can also tear the gums slightly to cause additional swelling . mouthwash is not necessary to use as you brush enough times a day , but if you insist on using it then i would suggest only once at night or once in the morning to reduce bad breath . if there is pain in your gums or bleeding then you may have to go to the dentist , you might also have an abcessed tooth , which is an infected cavity . only your dentist can be sure so it would be wise to get it checked up on . hope this helps.

Will all the swelling in my gums go away if I gargle salt water 3 times a day?

No, it won't. Gargling with saltwater will help a superficial wound to contract, but swelling of the gums in this case is likely due to gum disease (periodontal disease). This disease occurs because you have bacterial plaque on your teeth below the gumline in places you can't clean on your own. The bacteria have been there for a long time and they have kept your tissue inflamed for all that time. As time passes, the inflammation leads to a loss of the bone that supports your teeth. The only way to stop the process is to clean the teeth aggressively (with scaling and root planing) and to get your hygiene in order.Your swelling may or may not be due to periodontal disease. It could be due to a medication reaction or something else more rare. In any case you won't solve the problem with saltwater. See your dentist as soon as possible.

Oh no! My gums are swollen! :.(?

Teeth are meant to last a lifetime. By taking good care of your teeth and gums, you can protect them for years to come. Tooth decay is not just a problem for children. It can happen as long as you have natural teeth in your mouth. Tooth decay ruins the enamel that covers and protects your teeth. When you don’t take good care of your mouth, bacteria can cling to your teeth and form a sticky, colorless film called dental plaque. This plaque can lead to tooth decay and cavities. Gum disease can also cause your teeth to decay. There is some correlation in the saying ‘getting long in the tooth’ with the associated wear and tear of age. However premature gum loss is normally caused by using a hard bristled toothbrush in combination with an improper ‘scrubbing’ toothbrush technique. Swollen gums can also accelerate gum loss. Other times it is a result of passive eruption/growth of your teeth.
