Help Where Do I Get Help With Identity Theft

Has anyone been a victim of identity theft?

I was! My mother tells me that when i was very young she lost a wallet containing my SS card, my birth certificate etc...., she never reported it as ID theft was unheard of, a few years later i received a letter from a school in Brooklyn NY explaining that i was EXPELLED from school, I was 19 at the time and had graduated High SChool at 16, I called and they insisted I was their expelled student, I let it go (Not thinking of the credit coinsecuences to come) and later when applying for my first credit card found out I have over $20,000 in debt, the address that this other woman gave was a barbershop in Queens NY that alledges have never heard of her! I have called every single agency but because this has been going on for so long no one can do anything, just last night I ran my free annual credit report and saw that I now have a mortgage and because I do not know which bank I am mortgaged with (she is teh one that knows) they will NOT give me any info!!!!!! I am desperate and seriously considering bankrupcy.

P.S: Been to, police do not care

Identity theft please help?

She has committed a very serious crime. ID theft can take YEARS for the victim to unsnarl, and sometimes it takes decades. And the victim usually has problems with credit forever afterwards. Your mother in law severely screwed up someone's life.

Her victim will pretty much have to call the police in order to start straightening out this mess. Her victim has to have all sorts of legal stuff documented. So your mother in law will go to prison, and then be deported. Her kids are going to have to do without her. She should have thought of this before she started messing up someone else's life.

Edit: Even if she only used that person's name for work, she severely messed up that person's life. And there's no excuse for that. She wanted to do something that wasn't legal, and she didn't care that she was causing problems for someone else. I have no sympathy for her. Everyone has problems. Most people don't try to cause problems for other people. Your mother in law has messed up her victim's life and work record, which might NEVER get straightened out. I know of people who are still having problems with their Social Security because someone else used their name and/or number. I have sympathy for your MIL's victim.

Identity theft help please, im so scared?

So i'm in serious debt, and i need money so badly that i've been lookin to those "fast loan" sites on the net...

I went to this one site, www.mycashfirst.com

Gave it my social security , my bank account number and routing number...

now the bank account that i gave it has NO money in it, because i didnt want to risk losing any cash..

I'm just worried because soon after i sent in my info ALOT of popups came up and ads and agreements for stuff that i did not want came up, and i'm afraid that my information was sent in and taken by some stranger... I dont know what to do. When i tried to click the "contact us" on the page, a form came up that looked cheaply made and would not submit so there is no way to contact this company. What can i do to prevent my identity from being stolen?

Is anyone else paranoid about identity theft?

I do not apply in stores for credit cards because I do not want to give the cashier my SSN.I do not accept ANY telemarketing calls.I dont like to pay for things over the phone with credit cards, because then someone has my credit card number.
