Help With Being Modest

How can I  be modest?

Fake it until you make it? Either that or find out that there is and always be smarter, and out right better than you at anything and everything. And that's because people have put their whole lives into certain things, and maybe not as diverse, but will always be better than you. So knowing everything about everything is impossible. And being the prettiest woman or man in the world isn't possible either because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And honestly, pride isn't attractive in the slightest. And its better going into a situation at least acting like you have no idea what your doing than to be made a fool of. Unless you are genuinely good and qualified and skilled for a job. Then don't hold back. You rock that shit!! Oh sorry for my “french”. Thought it was appropriate.

Is being MODEST a bad thing?

there's this one girl at my school who is overly modest.
she's very brilliant and probably should smile or something when she gets a good grade on a test (which she ALWAYS does).
but then, there's this other girl who is always bragging about her grade, and her new jeans, and her beach house, and blah blah blah.
she just needs to shut up and be a little more modest.

so if you're a happy medium between never taking pride for your accomplishments and flaunting it, you're good.
but i don't really see why your friends would make a big deal about you being more modest than they are.

What are some benefits of being modest?

When things go wrong, nobody suspects you.To mangle that Dolly Parton quip, it costs a lot of money to look this cheap. Think about the financial upsides of modesty! More money for cake.Reduces chances of thinking of self as centre of universe.Creates better relationships if you can hide your own vanity. Works for me.Being able to blend into the furniture when you’re hiding from an irate boss.Brain power saved from having to come up with new ways to exalt self. Self-aggrandization is actually pretty draining for everyone involved. It is 100% accurate. “It is well to remember that the entire population of the universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others.” - Andrew J. Holmes, Wisdom in Small DosesThanks for your A2A, Tkroy.

Is being modest a good thing?

ok with that being given i have a friend that told me he is only a nice guy to me because of my being modest, other than that he is normally a mean person so he says...what does this mean??

How do you draw the line between being modest and being insecure?

You're insecure when you rely on other people to validate your achievements, that is, you don't feel like like you succeeded on something until someone tells you that you did.

A modest person knows when they're doing the right thing, when they've succeeded on something, etc. They don't need others to tell them that they're right. So they don't waste time trying to show off their achievements so others can validate them.

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift help?

Hey ya…

Swift’s essay is one of the best examples of irony and satire. He starts the essay by explaining to the readers the then current scenario of Ireland. The poor life led by the Irish… he does that in order to prepare the readers for the latter part of his essay which propagates cannibalism and gruesome stuff (though that’s not the intention of the writer). He just hints at the fact how poor people are exploited and that the best thing that they can do to exist is by selling their kids to rich people who can eat them and that will make life a little easy for the poor.

Cheers!!!

What does being a modest person mean?

The word modest has a positive connotation. It basically means showing a moderate or humble estimate of one's merits, importance, etc.; free from vanity, egotism, boastfulness, or great pretensions.

Let's say you are the smartest person in your class. You get A's on everything but you don't say "hey, look! I got an 'A'...I'm smarter than all of you!" You are modest or humble...you don't show off.

I'm sure the person meant it in a good way. I think the person wants you to admit that you're awesome, instead of denying it.

Examples of Harry Potter being modest?

1. In terms of clothing, Harry Potter wears simple, casual/modest clothes, even though he is rich and has a lot of gold in Gringott's. This is unlike Malfoy who wears a suit in HP 7 and onwards

2. Harry Potter does not let the fact that he is the chosen one, get to his head and inflate his ego. When he creates Dumbledore's army and teaches other students different spells (Expecto Petronum, etc.) he admits that in a lot of situations where he's beat the odds (against Tom Riddle, Voldemort etc) he has had the help of others or just got lucky. He is not boastful in his manneurisms.

I hope this helps :)

How can a modest person respond when asked "Are you modest?"?

“I know many people more modest than me.”The mark of a modest person is to turn one’s achievements and strengths towards someone or something else.So if you are complimented, a modest person would reply that they aren’t as good as they are made out to be, or someone is better.Applying the same principle here is a little harder, as to deny it could be constiuated as lying, or even boasting.Simply deflecting the question means that you answer it while being modest.Tada!
