Help With Stretched Ears

What can i do to help my stretched ear heal faster?

I'm a nurse practitioner/physician's assistant........I shouldn't use this as a diagnostic tool, but can you post a picture of the damaged ear?? And a "fistula" is a tunnel under the skin...... it is an abnormal connection or passageway between two epithelium-lined organs or vessels that normally do not connect.

The healing process depends on a majority of factors: your overall health, age, smoker/non smoker (yes, it does make a difference) alcohol/no alcohol, recreational drug usage......

I will star this and check back. Just trying to help you so that it doesn't get infected and then you're in deep..............

EDIT: Continue with your cleansing method, you might want to use some rubbing alcohol, don't us Hydrogen Peroxide~that actually make it take longer to heal. And the Neosporin~ if you can get the CREAM not the OINTMENT, the cream does NOT occlude the wound, the ointment puts up a barrier. Clean 3X/day and apply the neosporin cream after you've dried the area. Best to you.........

Rash around my stretched ear?? Help!!!!?

no no no! all these people are WRONG! you NEVER put any type of hydrocortisone/alcohol/peroxide or ANYTHING like that on piercings. instead of antibacterial soap [because that dries my skin out], try buying some non-iodized sea salt and mix it with warm water to clean it with. when you stretch, you NEED to use stainless steel until your ears are healed from the stretch.. by 'rubber' i'm guessing you mean silicone. and if your plugs are silicone, you need to switch those out asap. silicone is a very porous material, so it will make your ears stick to the plug. which is what could be causing your rash. sooo yeah, stainless steel. g'luck.

[edit] i would also recommend some naked oil. and you can find that on the bodyartforms website [awesome site for plugs btw, i swear by this place].. orrr, if you don't feel like waiting on it to ship, go to somewhere like gnc and buy some jojoba oil.. it's about $8 for 4 ounces. but just so yah know, i prefer the naked oil because it's a lot thicker and just feels like it works better.. but it's about $7.50 for a .5 ounce bottle.

Why do my stretched ears smell horrible?

Your body secretes a substance called sebum, sebum is an oily secretion which helps your skin keep lubricated and keep it waterproof. The sebum mixes with the dead skin cells between your ear and the jewellery to make this unpleasant odour. ... Please be sure to dry them before putting them back in to your ear. It's an oily secretion meant to lubricate the skin and make it waterproof. Mix sebum with some dead skin cells and a little bit of bacteria, and you get some really potent smelling piercings! The discharge is semi-solid and smells like stinky cheese. But sometimes a perfectly healed ear piercing might start smelling funky. This can happen due to a buildup of dead cells and sebum in the pierced holes. This smell can range from anywhere between being barely noticeable to your ears smelling like rotten cheese.Cleanliness. Avoid gauge odor by washing the area two to three times daily with unscented, antibacterial soap and water. Wash both sides of the ear with clean hands; rinse thoroughly. Periodically remove the gaugeto allow it to dry thoroughly and get some air.Wash your newly stretched piercing twice daily with glycerin soap. This will help remove the crusties and keep your piercing clean. Remember not to let anyone else use your soap! Soak your piercing twice daily for three to five minutes in a warm sea salt solution. As a general rule of thumb, you should wait a minimum of 3-4 months before stretching a fresh soft tissue piercing, and healed ear lobe piercings can often be stretched at the rate of one size (about 1mm to 1.5mm or 1/16") each 30 to 45 days, minimum.

Ear Stretching: Vitamin E oil help!?

It's not a have too thing, but the vitamin E helps sooth the area and helps with scaring from what i have heard. I never used it during my stretches... You can poke a hole in the gel capsules and that would be fine.. Or even go to a heath food store and ask for pure vitamin E oil. But honestly i don't think it's a have to thing. You sound like your already taking good care of your ears so i think your safe :) --The vitamin E oil probably would help slick the tapers in when you go up sizes. But it's up to you. :) --if you use it and just poke a hole you could get some at the tip of your fingers (with clean hands) and just rub it on the tapers and on your lobes

How to treat infected stretched ears?

Firstly, get the damn tapers OUT OF YOUR EARS!!
So sick of telling people this, but tapers harbor bacteria, create uneven stretches AND can damage your lobes.
When stretching, you should buy a set of plugs (surgical steel, titanium or glass, single flare or no flare), sit it flush with the taper, and push the plugs through after the taper.

2 months isn't long enough to wait between stretches. You need to wait at least 3, and that's the minimum.

Now, to get to the actual state of your lobes. Downsize to at least a 6g, making sure you have titanium, glass or surgical steel SF or NF plugs/eyelets. Do Sea Salt Soaks 2-3 times a day, and just leave your lobes the hell alone until they're better.

Never use harsh chemicals (like peroxide) to clean your tapers OR plugs/eyelets. It is so harsh, that it will actually affect the health of your lobes. Also, Neosporin= incredibly bad for fresh stretches and infected ears.

Once your lobes have healed, massage them with Vitamin E or Emu Oil. This will help break down the scar tissue. 3 months down the track, you can think about stretching again.

I had my ears pierced for 4 months and then I stretched it to a 14g. A week later and there's a hard lump around the hole. Can someone help me?

Sounds like hyper granulated scar tissue, either go back onto using sea salt soaks to cleanse it or change the materiel of your jewellery, low quality jewellery has a tendency to cause this.Downsizing can help also but try cleaning it or changing it into better quality(if it is say acrylic, steel or silver you would see this issue)

Tender, irritated stretched ears? Help please!?

That actually sounds pretty normal. It's quite common for a bit of irritation to happen, usually on the side you sleep on most. A lot of people don't realise that our ears actually cop quite a beating every day - they get bumped in our sleep, caught on clothing and hairbrushes, exposed to the ups and downs of the weather, and then some of us decide to stretch them. Hahah.

With the exception of the bepanthen and removing your tapers, you've been doing the right thing. As there is no blood, weeping or crusting, you don't need the antiseptic that is in bepanthen because there's no open wound or infection that needs to be kept clean.
Leave the tapers in, as the in and out will just futher irritate them. Give them a quick dab with salt water as you have been doing just to clean them a little, and only twist the tapers a little bit.

Also have some ibuprofen - it's a mild anti-inflamatory, so if there is some swelling there, it will reduce it, and in turn lessen the irritation.

If you plan on up-sizing again, wait at least another two weeks. Whenever I up-size, I have left at least four weeks between each (I've gone up in small incriments - it's taken since August for me to get to 8mm/2ga), and I haven't had any problems at all with mine. My husband has done the same thing as me, and he's at 12mm/00ga, again with no issues. I followed the advice of my best friend who has been a professional piercer for six years now.

Good luck. :D

Are there remedies for pain after stretching ears?

Either a lil ice... or EVEN BETTER, if you have some chamomile tea, make the tea... but then take the tea bag and lay it on your lobes, the warmth will soothe, and chamomile is a Natural anti-inflammatory.

Stretching should never hurt... if this happened every time... then it sounds like your not waiting long enough between stretches

You SHOULD be waiting AT LEAST the Bare minimum between stretches:
16g to 14g - 1 month
14g to 12g - 1 month
12g to 10g - 1.5 months
10g to 8g - 2 months
8g to 6g - 3 months
6g to 4g - 3 month
4g to 2g - 3 months
2g to 0g - 4 months
0g to 00g - 4 months

I'm gonna guess you've developed a fair share of scar tissue too... for the sake, health and beauty of your lobes take your time, go SLOW *Stretching isn't a race* and pick up some Jojoba oil at your local health foods store, and start massaging and oiling your lobes to break up and dissolve any and all scar tissue as well as making stretching easier... It's proven that oil massaging your lobes twice a day Plus waiting the appropriate times lead to easier pain free stretches, as well as happy stretchy lobes
