How hard is it to learn After Effects? After learning Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, what should I do to learn After Effects step by step?

Guys if you answer , that learning After Effects is super easy, you probably do not know what you are talking about. After effects isn’t easy at all, but I can also agree, that if you go through Photoshop and Illustrator it will be a lot easier. I was in a same situation, I knew PS very well and was about to learn AE. From the beginnig you will be swear a lot. It is professional and extremely handful tool, much more worth than PS or AI.I’ve started to learn it a year ago. I have seen a tons of tutorials, they are really helpful, but you should always combine tutorials with your personal work in AE. In my case I didn’t repeat what I saw in tutorials, instead of this I tried to create my own ideas. Here are two of my works in AE after 3 years of learning it :) Give me feedback if you want.LYRIC VIDEOS SHOWREEL

How do you add black bars in Adobe Photoshop?

The easiest way would be to adjust the canvas size (Cmd-Opt-C on Mac or Ctrl-Alt-C on Windows), and set the canvas extension color to black. Then just increase the height by the desired amount and you have instant black bars.

How do I switch from GIMP to Photoshop?

Learn where the menu items are located - the menus are arranged differently - and many keyboard shortcuts are different, and realise that many similar items/tools might be called something different or may work slightly differently - those are the main differences. However the concepts of editing (like using layers and layer masks), and the basic functionality in either application are the same.

Examples:
iWarp = Liquify
Paths Tool = Pen Tool
Blend Tool = Gradient Tool
CTRL+Z (undo) in GIMP = Alt+CTRL+Z (step backward) in Photoshop
CTRL+Z in Photoshop toggles from undo, then back to the step before (I know it's weird)
GIMP's Lasso tool works like a combination of two of Photoshops selection tools, the Lasso and Polygonal Select tools
File > Open as Layers = File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack
Photoshop's toolbar doesn't display all tools, many are hidden under other tools and you have to click and hold a tool to see the ones hidden under it - this is probably the most annoying feature of Photoshop's user interface.
Also Photoshop doesn't use the Floating Selection thing that GIMP has. When you copy and paste something, it always goes on a new layer. So in Photoshop Edit > Paste has the same effect in GIMP as Edit > Paste As > New layer.

I came from the other direction, learned Photoshop first, then learned GIMP. At first it was very odd, but you soon get used to the differences. The Floating Selection thing confused me the most - as a photoshop user, I think that feature is one of GIMP's most annoying. I now use both applications every day - and both are second nature now. Although I have to say GIMPs Paths tool is 100 times easier to use than Photoshop's Pen tool - Adobe could certainly learn some usability tips from GIMP. And Adobe should lose the hidden tool thing - I live in hope that someday, Photoshop will have a fully customisable toolbar like GIMP's.

Might be a good idea to get yourself a book, one with more advanced tutorials. I've found that books are generally better quality than tutorials you find online. You might even find some at your local library.

How can I create a poster like this in Photoshop?

Thanks for the A2A.Making this is extremely simple and requires just a few steps. There are several different methods available to achieve this result.1) Open any image and unlock the locked Background layer.2) Use the Type Tool to write some text. It can be any colour, font or size.3) Move the image layer above the text layer, so that the text becomes hidden behind the image. Now right click the layer with the image and chose "Create Clipping Mask" - this will overlay your image onto your text, creating the result above.4) If you want a black background simply create a new empty layer, fill it with black and put it at the bottom of all the layers. That's it :-)If you want some noise in the image, as seen in the example, just add some noise to the layer with the image - not the text layer.A different approachThe method used above have some advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that you can use the Type Tool at any time to edit/re-write the text without having to adjust anything else, but it otherwise lacks flexibility.Instead of using the "Create Clipping Mask" feature you can also use a Layer Mask. This would be done by creating some text, then hold down CTRL (or CMD on a Mac) and left click on the "T-icon-thumbnail" in the Layers panel - this will create a selection of the text. Now click the layer containing the image and use the "Create Layer Mask"-button (at the bottom of the Layers panel) to add a Layer Mask to this layer, essentially producing the same result.

How do you draw straight lines in Photoshop?

Hi! I usually do this in two different ways. You can either use the shape tool or the paintbrush tool to achieve this. There may be other ways to achieve this, but this is how I go about doing it :).Create a Line using the shape tool:1. To access the shape tool, click "u" on your keyboard. 2. A shape should then be highlighted on the toolbar on the right side of your screen. Right click that shape and select the diagonal line "/".3. At the top of your screen there should be options such as " shape, fill, stroke," use these different options to change the look of your line.4. Finally, to create a line, click and drag your mouse over your image to create a line.Create a Line using the Paintbrush Tool:1. Select "B" on your keyboard to access your paint brush.2. While holding down the "shift" key on your keyboard, click on your image... continue to hold down the shift key and then click somewhere else on the image. This will paint a straight line for you.I hope this helps!
