How Can An Occupational Therapist Help A Client Who Is Drowsy And Has A Difficulty Focusing

What is the best way to deal with depression due to chronic pain?

I want to be clear about one thing: there is no such thing as pain that can't be treated effectively. There are only patients who give up. Modern multidisciplinary pain medicine is very effective. Don't give up until you have relief.According to my doctor, most patients that have serious chronic pain, which isn't controlled, become depressed. Unremittent pain makes you shed more and more of your life. Depression is a natural consequence. This is particularly bad, because depression makes pain worse. It becomes a negative cycle. Depressed pain patients are a truly miserable lot.So, first and foremost you should aggressively treat your depression. Think of this as a war you are determined to win, and stop at nothing. You should be seeing a psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist combination about your depression. Antidepressants work, and some like Cymbalta also fight pain directly. Therapy with a pain psychologist is very helpful. There may be a pain class in your area.Chronic pain support groups may help. You need three things:A psychiatrist to manage your medicationA pain psychologist to help you build pain tolerance skillsA therapist to talk to every week, or however often your insurance coversYou should be getting a lot of exercise, which directly combats both pain and depression. An occupational therapist or pain psychologist can assist you in finding a form of exercise you can do without pain. You should be in some form of physical therapy, even if it doesn't impact your pain directly (i.e. non joint pain, for instance, abdominal pain). If traditional PT doesn't work, look around for a restorative Yoga or Pilates class. If you're in a lot of pain, you should probably be on more pain medication. Ask your doctor. Don't give up on it because you feel drowsy - that will pass in a few weeks.Beyond these things, there are different interventions for different sources of pain. These range from cortisone injections, radio frequency ablation, spinal morphine pumps, spinal electric stimulators, etc.In summary, you need:2-3 mental health providersPhysical therapyOccupational therapyNon opiate pain medicationOpiate pain medicationIntervention via injection, etc.ExerciseLots of stuff to do and research, right? Overwhelming? This is why multidisciplinary pain clinics exist. They can treat your pain in all these ways and more. Look for a pain clinic at the nearest medical school. You may need a referral to get in. It is worth the trouble.

Something wrong with sleep...SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

My friend fell asleep in class today, or so we thought she was "sleeping". We couldnt wake her up, no matter how much we shook or moved her or shouted her name! Her skin was cold and her legs were stiff too. She really scared us!

Her classmates said that it is the second time that had happened and they passed it off as "sleeping very deeply". I dont believe it's sleeping. I know something must be wrong. I dont know how, but she woke up minutes later in her class. I suggested that she go to a doc and find out what's wrong but she said she doesnt want to.

Im really worried about her. Does anyone have any slightest idea what could be possibly wrong with her?

Because every individual is different - stamina, diet, lifestyle, living conditions, climate , environment, working conditions, stress levels - and many more such factors are different for different people3. And this is where a deeper science - Ayurveda , comes into picture. The first thing a Ayurveda physician does is - identify your unique body constitution called prakruti. Then we proceed with prescribing medication.4. A diet and lifestyle plan is also charted out - this is again customized for an individual5. A combination of the three - Medicine , Diet & Lifestyle will not cure the disease, it will also prevent its recurrence6. Duration of treatment is variable - age , severity play a role here.7. Is Asthma curable with Ayurveda ? - YES - in children and in the initial stages in adults .If it is chronic, we can manage it very well with treatment and you can lead a completely normal life, but with a few diet and lifestyle restrictions.
