How Can I Be Ready For My Acting Interview

How did you get your acting agent?

The first thing I started to do before I even thought about getting an agent was to start training. I realized that if I started contacting agents before I was ready, that once I got an interview and they asked me to do a monologue, that I had to be ready. I had to know how to act, at least a little.
I also started finding out what agents really look for in an actor and why agents are in business, what they would expect from me once they decided to sign me.
I also knew that it was important for me to understand what my type was, so that all my marketing efforts were funneled in the same direction.
Once I started to do those things, I then began to find out which agents cater to my type, which agents were actually looking for someone like me. I looked at the Ross Reports and another publication called New York Agencies and found everything I needed.
I learned how to write a good cover letter, learned how to put together my resume and how to get really professional looking headshots taken and then I started systematically mailing the agents I was interested in working with.
In this way I ended up getting three agents to work with me in a short period of time.

If you are one of the many young kids going directly from "I wanna be an actress." to "How do I get an agent?"

STOP!

That's not a winning strategy. Make sure that when you spend time and money to make all your materials, that someone will want to actually look at them!

Have a look at this page on my site for new and aspiring actors. It has 23 links to different pages that have to do with aspects of starting an acting career, including how to get an agent, how to get really good head shots, how much your acting career will cost along with other things you might find helpful. http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/teen_...

Good luck!

Should I wear makeup to my acting screen test?

I submitted a talent application to a Talent Agency, Look Model and Casting Agency. They sent me an email stating the normal; they are interested....schedule an interview.....but they said one thing I haven't heard before, they want to do a screen test on me. I only began trying to find a talent agency recently and I'm still very much a beginner. From my understanding a screen test is when a actor is displaying how they would appear on the screen. However I've been researching for the past couple of weeks and as of yet to find anything helpful. I would really appreciate any tips or advice regarding how to behave myself, dress: feet to my head, and look. I really reaally badly want this screen test to go well and I need all the help I can get.

Any suggestions on what to do in my model interview?

Go for a trendy business look. Stay away from trashy clothing that bares tons of skin. You want to look stylish and polished, not like you are ready for the corner. Try a nice skirt and top or dress. I'd stay away from shorts and tanks. Pants would be OK if that's what your prefer, even a good pair of jeans would pass if you paired them with boots and a top, not a tee.
Look at some of the latest clothing styles off the runways. If you got your foot in the door, then you must meet the requirements they want in looks. So the clothing would flatter you better than a "average" built woman.
Find something that says "I'm trendy and stylish", "I wear my clothes, my clothes don't wear me". Find something that shows off your figure. Style suggestions:

Do celebrities prepare for interview questions beforehand? How come every one speaks without fear?

Most Celebrities are in and out. There is no real preparation. If you notice on YouTube there are several interviewers who have either asked the celebrity an embarrassing question where the reactions from the celebrities were not good ones. Tommy Lee Jones was extremely annoyed by the questions his interviewer was shooting at him where we could see he was not enjoying it at all. Two incidents where the interviewer has mistaken to an actor for someone else, for example, Samuel L Jackson was mistaken for Laurence Fishburne. She didn’t even know who she was interviewing and this infuriated Samuel L Jackson. Another was an Interviewer had mistaken John Cusack with being in a completely different movie than what he’s been interviewed for. The movie poster he was being interviewed for was clearly behind him but she consistently assumed that he was in American Beauty, even asking Cusack which movie is the one with the Pedals? Obviously, she confused John Cusack as Kein Spacey which made for an extremely awkward interview. The Interviewer will do several interviews with different celebrities per day. The Celebrities do not prepare for an interview.

What is the process of getting into a Bollywood acting career? Will there be any auditions for that?

Of course there are Auditions - just like there are interviews for a job. Well even if you get an Audition, what will you do with it? For e.g. if I get you an interview at AIIMS, will they select you as a doctor? Or do you consider Acting as a non-professional career?[EXCERPT] Vineet Raj Kapoor's answer to How can I get entry in Bollywood? You could enter Bollywood more easily as a non-actor. The stakes in Acting are very high with a horde of filial attacking the gates. The other gates can be pretty empty and give you an easy access. Try those gates. Production is one great gate to try, it requires regular hard work so most creatives shy away from it, then sound, script writing, and editing are some areas which are always short of good people. Yes, payments may not be as exciting as acting but then you soon become an insider, so you can get into the zones you like later. You could start with a course at FTII Pune or if you are not wanting to get into the competitive exam stuff, you could opt for private sector institutes like ICE (backed by Balaji) or Whistling Woods (backed by Mukta Arts). You can look at editing, direction, production, script writing, modelling, vfx, or animation just to get your foot into the door (the door is a trifle wider in technical paths), and many actors use it to get closer to the directors/ producers. My experience says that if you're going for a skill based careers like acting, degrees are not much help unless it gives you a huge practical exposure. Too much theory kills the skill, too less theory leaves you half a man.If you want help, then mail me at but do mention your name, age, address, mobile, email (in case you sms me at ). Add a few lines on why you want to take this career (something like a statement of purpose).Me?
