How Can I Find The Current Temperature In Athens Greece

Similarities and differences between ancient greek culture and modern-day culture?

I think the differences are huge. Slavery was a widespread practice in ancient Greece for instance, in Athens about 50% of the population were slaves. Even a person in quite a humble occupation, a tradesman or shopkeeper for instance, would have at least one slave.

Women in many Greek city-states (Athens for example) were expected to lead seculded lives, staying at home and spinning and weaving (Greek women produced the cloth and clothing for the household) and supervising the work of the slaves, they were not supposed to go out except to visit other women, or to attend religious festivals. Houses that were large enough had seperate women's quarters. Slaves and lower class women of course had to go out to work, so seculsion would not apply to them. Women did not particpate in politics, but they did play an important role in religion, participating in festivals, and some women served as priestesses.

There was a form of democracy in Athens, but it was available only to a limited section of the population, adult male Athenian-born citizens. Women, slaves, and foreigners (those born elsewhere than Athens) did not have any say in government. On the other hand, those who could participate were more actively involve,d you didn'tjust go and cast a vote for politicans, every voter could be a politician himself if he wanted to, make speeches, propose laws etc.

The ancient Greeks were made on sports, which might be a poin tof similiarity to modern culture. They believed in the importance of keeping fit and exercising, and they admired fit young men very much. Women do not seem to have played sports much except in Sparta, where they were encouraged to exercise and keep fit so they would bear healthy children. Sports were more violent than they are today, there were no team games, people participated as individuals, and there were no second prizes. To win was everything.

Religion was very different from modern religion. The ancient Greeks believed in a variety of different gods and goddesses, who were capricious and easily offended. They saw their gods as having human failings, they are greedy, cruel, lustful, etc. They sacrificed to their gods to try and gain their approval, at the Olympic Games for instance, the main event was a huge sacrifice of animals. Greek gods were not comforting beings.

When will Greece/Athens open its first crematorium? It's been proposed and approved, but when will it be built?

Deputy Athens Mayor had said last November that the master plan would be ready by end of 2017 and a tender for the construction of the site would be launched in the summer of 2018 (Source in Greek: http://www.efsyn.gr/arthro/apote...). So, and taking into consideration any procedural delays on awarding the contract and any construction delays, it would be around 2020 (but this is my take).Another cremation facility is expected to launch operation in the city of Patras (about 200 km. west of Athens). Deputy Mayor had told in Athens News Agency the crematorium may launch operation even in 2018 (Source in Greek: Αποτεφρωτήριο νεκρών στην Πάτρα από το 2018;) That’s all for now.

Who are Greece's enemies?

What is the weather like in Thessaloniki, Greece?

Being situated alongside the northerly part of the Thermaic Gulf, Thessaloniki enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot, sunny summers. The rainfall in Thessaloniki is slight and varies a little through the year, being driest during the summer (22 mm / 0.08 inches per month), with a greater likelihood of a shower in November or December (57 mm / 2.25 inches per month). Short, summer thunderstorms are infrequent and rarely last long. The sunny summer climate results in temperatures soaring to 30°C / 86°F in June, and 32°C / 90°F or more in July. Even though by winter, daytime temperatures average around 9°C / 48°F, being regulated by the sea. Frosty weather during the early winter mornings is not uncommon, and even an occasional snow flurry may occur.
