How Can I Graduate Early And Still Get A Diploma - Not A Ged

Which is better GED or High School Diploma??

A high school diploma is OVER-RATED .You'll do just fine with a GED.I dropped out of high school when i was 16 and recieved my GED 1 month later. After that I enrolled in a Junior college and graduated with an A.S. degree in mathematics by the time i was 18,which is the time i should of finished high school.By the time my friends graduated high school,I already had a college degree.Upon completion of my A.S. and a GPA of 3.8, I transferred to The University of Southern California (usc) and by the time i was 20 yrs old graduated with a Bachelor's of Science(B.S.) in Aerospace Engineering.I went on to grad school after that and by the time I was 22 I graduated with a masters in PHYSICS. I am now 23 and I work for BOEING As a Head engineer and I'm planning on becoming a proffesor at usc next year and teach physics.I am very proud of my success and all of this started with a simple GED.

Can I get a GED if I graduate high school?

No, if you already getting your high school diploma then you CANNOT get your GED.

A GED is for individuals who did not complete a high school diploma. A GED is very equivalent to a high school diploma. "Getting your GED" refers to passing these tests. Theoretically, a person who holds a high school diploma and a person who passes the GED Tests have equivalent proofs of their knowledge.

Now it's time to either pursue your post secondary education (attend college) or go straight to the workforce.

Also some universities accept GED (general equivalency diploma), but those applicants are less competitive and have greater difficulty being considered for admissions.

Can I graduate early if I'm homeschooled?

In California, when you turn 16 or done with 10th grade you can take the CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) which will give you the legal equivalent of a diploma. It is legal in Calif., for the military, federal jobs (like the PO) and some colleges out of state. On job applications where it asks if you have a diploma you can check Yes. It is not a GED. It has math and two language parts. It is offered, usually, 3 times a year. You take it a a local school. If you still have 3 years of high school, this would be your fasted way to graduate. It doesn't meet the minimum courses for some colleges (like 4 years English, etc) but my daughter had no problem enrolling in Community College at 16. If you home school you can just say you finished early, but having a certificate proves you have at least the state minimum knowledge.
Oh, you don't have to be home schooled to take the CHSPE.

How can I graduate high school early if I am in 10th grade?

Thanks for the A2A, Destiny!I’m going to assume you want to spend less time in high school before you go to college. You can do this a number of ways:Dual-enrollment. 11th and 12th graders often take college level classes at a community or other local college, or online. If you’re bored at school, more challenging college courses might be your answer.Early graduation. If you meet the high school graduation requirements, you should be able to graduate, no matter how old you are. The biggest hurdle I’ve seen is the four years of English most high schools require to graduate, and most colleges require for you to enroll. Some schools will not allow you to double-up on English classes in order to graduate early.Early college. A third option is not graduating at all. Some early college programs, like PEG at Mary Baldwin, take students as early as 9th grade, others, like Bard College at Simon’s Rock, start after 10th or, like the Clarkson Academy at Clarkson University, after 11th grade. In addition, many traditional colleges will admit a very few, really well-qualified high school juniors, but you have to be competitive with high school seniors at that younger age in order to qualify. They particularly want to see that you’ve “run out” of classes at your high school. Often this means you’ve started taking high school classes in middle school. In some of these cases, Clarkson in particular, you will eventually earn your high school diploma through dual-enrollment (if your high school agrees to accept the credits). At the others, you just don’t have a high school diploma. Not surprisingly, if you have a college degree, no one really cares where you went to high school or if you graduated.GED. If you just want to be done, you can take your state’s graduation exam and/or the GED (general equivalency diploma) exam in order to prove that you’re ready to graduate. GEDs are still considered the mark of a high school drop out for many employers, so I don’t usually recommend that to my students.

GED vs. High school diploma?

It truly depends on the level at which you choose to attend college. A ged, much like michelle stated above, is for people who do not usually plan to attend college. This may be that said person plans to attend a trade school to become a skilled laborer (ex, an electician) or may simply wish to begin working.

That said, with a high enough SAT score, it should be fine, that is, if you are planning to attend a college which is not extremely competitive. attempting to apply to schools like the university of chicago, any of the ivy league, and other top tiers like boston university, penn state, will be hard unless your sat score is extremely impressive, or your extra curricular activities are incredible as a ged makes it seem as though you are too lazy to complete college.

Of course, if you had odd circumstances that forced you to graduate early by way of ged (ex, ailing family member meant you had to graduate early so that you could take care of them and still go to college without taking extra years to graduate high school), then a ged would not matter at all.

in general, if you are planning on attending a state school or a b-list private college, you shouldnt be too worried, though make sure you explain why you chose to get a ged over a diploma

Do I need my high school diploma or can I just start going to a community college?

Thanks for the A2A, Christian!I feel your pain on the not-challenging front, but graduating early, or getting a GED can cause problems for you later, depending on which college you want to apply to. If you are hoping to enroll in one of those super-selective name-brand colleges, 60 credits of community college is not going to make for a competitive application. However, all is not lost. As Kathleen mentioned, most students who are homeschooled for high school take community college courses instead of high school courses. My own sons started community college at 15 and 16. Funnily enough, for the 15 year old, I had to sign all kinds of forms swearing that he wouldn’t miss any school by taking a course at the community college. (!? Um, no, this is his school.) For the 16 year old, they couldn’t have cared less whether he was enrolled anywhere at all. Neither one had any sort of diploma. So going to your local CC and getting your AA is a great option for a homeschooled teen. You can then transfer to most public colleges and probably most private colleges as well. However, those super-selective name-brand colleges would rather see you do well in very rigorous traditional high school courses, rather than racking up college credits. This does not mean you have to stay in high school! If you and your parents decide to homeschool you for high school, you can take community college courses, online courses or attend an online high school. You can show that you’ve taken the same kinds of classes as traditionally schooled applicants are by using standardized testing (ACT/SAT, PSAT, AP, and SAT subject tests). And homeschooling gives you much more time to spend doing things you really love doing. Becoming an expert in something and making a real impact are what makes you competitive in that hyper-competitive college process, and homeschoolers have lots more time to do those things than students who have to sit in a classroom for 6–7 hours a day.

What is the name of the degree you graduate with from High School?

I'm trying to figure out the name of the degree when I graduated High School, because you don't get certain degrees during High School. You receive a diploma, but I think that's only the name for the certificate received upon graduation. And also a GED, but I also believe that's for under-graduates. I could be wrong.

Thank you to those who answer this question. You Rock.

Are high school students allowed to take the GED test to "graduate" early?

It depends on the policy of your state. However, most require you to be a non high school graduate who surpass the age of 18. Although this is not my business, I strongly discouraged taking the GED test , unless you havent received a High school diploma due to personal problems that you have to drop out of high school or being unable to get a high school diploma due to insufficient credits. If you are not In the former situations , taking the GED might causes some educational organizations or employer to doubt your ability. In fact, research has shown that getting employment with a GED is harder than high school diploma

What is a GED and would it allow a child to skip some years in high school?

You can go to About the GED® Test to see the technical details. It is a high school equivalency of general educational development. Assuming a person can function in English, they take a test of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These four sections together take 8 hours.Over the years, the GED changes slightly, but the gist of it is the same. Competitors have come up in the US, such as the HiSet and TASC.All these tests are a means to an end. Once you pass the test, you can join the military, go into most US colleges and universities, etc.It allows you to skip high school completely. In my personal opinion, I like the test because it provides a basic standard of competency. Some people will score far above these limits (such as getting a perfect score on the SAT, doing research, etc.), some will be just passing, but all will have passed and have the option to pass.I would still recommend sticking out high school for social development. But, the GED is a great way any world citizen can prove they are competent to go on to some basic college.
