How Do I Ensure That My Rabbits Are Warm

How do i clean my rabbits feet?

I went on vacation for a week and my housekeeper took care of my rabbit.
Instead of putting the usual rabbit cage bedding, she used newspaper.. so when i got back.. my rabbits feet were stained with ink..i think.. All i know is that her feet are black... ( my rabbit is pure white by the way)
anyway i tried wiping her feet with a paper towel but it won't come off

how do i clean them??

How do I know if my baby rabbits are being fed?

Is Lola young? It may just be inexperience.

Yes, the little ones should be round and warm. Another way to test for hydration is to gently pinch a little bit of skin at the back of the neck into a tent shape. If the tent stays up, they are dehydrated, (and NOT feeding) if the tent returns to normal very quickly, they are fine.

Yes, she will only feed a couple of times a day, her mother's milk is so rich that that is all these babies need, however, she should leave them covered by her fur if she is not in the nesting box with them. The babies are unable to regulate their own body temperature, she should be making sure they maintain warmth.

Try actually latching the babies onto her nipples, move them close and if they get ahold, see if she is tolerant of them. It is not possible for humans to duplicate the formula from mother, and it is always best if you can get mother feeding them.

If not: Rabbits can not regurgitate, so feeding them is very tricky. They will require feeding with more frequency than they would get with their mother, at the minimum, every 4 hours during daylight hours. The amount of food will have to be adjusted as they grow, and feeding them with a syringe, or small bottle can cause them to aspirate (get fluid in their lungs) You will have to ensure all the fluid is out of the lungs before more food is given. They can, and will drown. It would be best to discuss with your Vet office, they can guide you in caring for the young is rejected by mother.

Still the best option is getting Mom to look after them. Good luck.

How do you adapt your backyard for an outdoor rabbit?

Great question! Aside from the obvious (being that you ensure proper full enclosure to prevent escape) I would recommend providing your rabbit with protective shelter so that they have somewhere to hideout, relax, and be at ease. Something as fun and simple as this Classic Rabbit Runner Tunnel underneath a tree or patio would be perfect! They love relaxing in them because it is similar to a burrow. I would also reccomend a Classic Indoor House for Bunnies Rabbits placed underneath something that would block out the rain. I bought one recently and although it says indoor it is great because it is soft, warm, and comfortable for your rabbit. This would make a perfect place to sleep. Hope this helps and take care!

What is the right way to carry bunnies and rabbits?

Most rabbits do not like being picked up. At all. It reminds them of being picked up by a predator (such as a hawk). If you need to pick up your rabbit, place one hand underneath it's breast and support it's upper body. With the other hand, scoop up their hindquarters in between the legs (Do not support hind legs! They will jump out of your arms and hurt themselves given the chance!) Hold your rabbit close o your body gently yet firm. If you want to pick up your rabbit purely for pleasure, use the same procedure but try to strengthen the trust between you and your rabbit first.

2 day old baby rabbits HELP VERY SERIOUS!?

MY rabbit had her babies two days ago and I don't know if she is taking care of them. I check on them once or twice a day. All 7 of them are squirming around and in her nesting fur. She is never near them when I go in to check on them. I am worried that if I pick you up she will kill it because I touched it. What can I do to ensure she is taking care of them. This is her first littler. She has been eating and drinking quite alot if that helps any. Thank you so much. I want them all to make it and I am soooo worried about them.

How can I clean my rabbit's paws safely?

Before you clean your rabbit's feet check them for any mats or sores. Remove any mats before washing or they will get worse. Treat any sores, of course.

Trim nails first, if needed, so that your rabbit will be less likely tear off a nail if he tries to scramble away.

What you use to wash your rabbit's feet with will depend on how your rabbit's feet are dirty. Are they soiled with poo, urine, dirt or just stained?

If they soiling is mild, you can just wipe them with a baby wipe and let them dry. No rinsing. If they have dirt or caked on poo on them you can use a rabbit shampoo like Vanodine's (see link) which is unscented (rabbit do not like perfumes) an works fine.

For removing stained feet I use a horse Tail & Mane Whitener. Apply a small amount to the bottoms of the feet and moisten with water. Rub it in to make a lather. Let is sit for 30 minutes. Watch your rabbit the entire 30 minutes and distract him when he tries to lick it off. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Only get your rabbit wet where it is nessacary.

The last and most important step is to DRY your rabbit's feet until the fur is bone dry to the skin. If you leave a rabbit's fur even a little damp they can get sick and die pretty quickly.

To dry your rabbit, towel dry as much as you can. Next, use a hair dryer to completely dry any and all damp areas on bunny. Turn the dryer on warm/cool or low. Keep your finger in the air flow so that you know exactly how it feel on bunny. Keep the dryer moving.

I have used the Mail & Tail Whitener for my show rabbits. It works great the best at getting whitening stains but may not remove them completely. The best way to keep a rabbit's feet clean is by prevention. Be diligent in keeping your rabbit's cage clean and don't use printed newspaper as an aborbant floor covering.
