How Do I Find My Stolen Car

How do cops find stolen cars?

Lots of ways.

Cops when driving around are always running plates on their mobile data terminals (car computer) when a car or driver of the car looks out of place.

If they see a car parked without plates and it looks suspicious they run the VIN.

Many departments have LPR (license plate recognitions) systems on their cars.
These run every plate on every car or truck that passes them or they pass without the officer having to do anything until the computer tells him the plate is wanted.
Officers als know dumping grounds for joy ride & strip cars on their beats. Most visit these areas at least nightly.

WHAT IF I FIND MY STOLEN CAR BEFORE THE POLICE DO?

Don't just drive off in it, call the police and have them meet you there. They're not going to impound it, but they will search it for any evidence and they'll take the 'stolen' listing off the computer. DON'T touch it or get into it before they arrive; there is evidence we can collect as long as no one tried to play CSI before we arrive.

If you don't call them you might end up with an unpleasant experience of being pulled out of your car at gunpoint and handcuffed.

What are the chances to get back a stolen car?

Every stolen vehicle get entered into NCIC which is a nationwide database. If the perp left your tags on the vehicle then its a better possibility for it to get recovered. Any officer in the nation that runs the plates will come back stolen and the officer will take proper action to return the vehicle to its owner.

If the thief took off your plates and put on different ones the the only likely hood of your car being returned is if an officer runs your vin number. That usually only happens if a car was found abandoned or something.

The more time that passes, the less likely you will get your car back. Sorry!

If the thieves set my stolen car on fire....?

last night, some one stole my car and it had jewelry, pictures, school books, and half my clothes.

i haven't seen the car yet, so im speculating about whether the trunk got burned, if the main part of the car was set on fire. im assuming that they didn't like the trunk on fire first, but then again i have no idea how a crackhead thinks.

what would you speculate?

also, what should i do about losing key elements of my identity to a car fire? i dont have full coverage insurance and was moving at the time the theft took place.

Can I report my stolen car to another state?

Can I report my Stolen car to a another state?
It was stolen on Jan 15 2011, and when i reported it the cops didn't seem to care and on top of that they told me to call back in three days!!!! That made me furious!!! So I called the place where it was stolen to speak with the security officers which i had spoken to as well that same night it was stolen, to see if they found anything on the video. I swear I was going to kill someone because they had no idea what I was talking about. They seemed to fail passing on the report to the next shift!!! The hours where going by as well as the days and nothing!!!! So after 3 days I call back and they didn't even have the report ready!!! On top of that they tell me to call back at 3 b/c they were going to lunch!!!! ALL THAT ******* TIME JUST GAVE THE THIEFS TO RUN AWAY FURTHER AWAY TO ANOTHER STATE!!!, AND POSSIBLY DIMINISH MY CAR, BUT I HAVE HOPE THAT IT MAY STILL BE WHOLE, AND IN CASE IT IS WHOLE, I WANT TO REPORT IT TO ANOTHER STATE ! helpppp!!! EVERYONE TELLS ME ITS NOT SO IMPORTANT, AND TO MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE BUT THE THING IS MY GREEN CARD AND SOCIAL SECURITY AND LICENSE AND MEDICAID CARD WERE IN THERE, MY WHOLE IDENTITY WAS THERE ! its like that ***** who stole my car hit the lottery, or was just waiting for me to place my things in there! If I ever catch this ***** using my medicaid can I find him ? or locate him? How? HELP

How can I recover a stolen car?

My Corvette was stolen from a dealership parking lot (I had dropped it off for service) and it was recovered by the police in a nearby city the next day. The thieves had done a little bit of joyriding and apparently stopped for McDonald's, but didn't beat the car up or anything. They stole the change out of the center console and the torx-headed ratcheting tool used to remove the car's top. The fact that they stole that tool suggests that they just grabbed whatever was at hand. Most cars are stolen for parts. Check any list of most stolen cars and you'll see a lot of very boring cars there... five year old Camrys and Accords are often at the top. These cars are stolen because there are a large number of them needing repair, and out of warranty. The stolen cars are "chopped" (disassembled for parts) and the parts make their way to repair shops.I don't believe my car was stolen for parts, because, in the big picture, it is too rare for professionals to bother with. Rather, I believe the thieves got a hold of the keys and decided to have some fun one night. Then they parked the car to let it cool and maybe would have arranged to sell it on if it hadn't been found.Very shortly after a car is stolen, it is taken somewhere to cool. They will be concerned that the car has  lo-jack or some other locating technology, or that local cops will have been notified and on the lookout. After a few days, they'll come around to pick the car up and take it to the chop shop. How stolen cars get spotted is something I don't know. My car was in a fairly low-rent part of the city where a sports car would seem out of place. But, as I noted above, most stolen cars are very common types, so I can't tell you how it is that they seem to be located with a fair amount of success.PS: I had a friend who was filling up at a gas station when somebody drove up in his own stolen Cadillac. I guess that happens some times, too!

How do I find my stolen car using my computer and car registration?

unfortunately - you likely don’t.Stolen cars have one of four fates, depending on where they were stolen, how nice they were, and who the thieves were -If the thieves were idiots with no connections -it will probably be found, either as a wreck after a careless joyride, or intact, by the police. You won’t find it, plain and simple, someone else will, the state they find it in is a bit of a tossup. If the thieves weren’t idiots, had some connections, and your car was of decent value -then they’re probably gone to an unscrupulous junkyard, found an identical make car that wasn’t documented properly, and have stripped it’s VIN plates to re badge yours as another car - meaning your registration information is essentially useless. even if your car has electronic ID features, doesn’t matter - they can, and will, switch those out as well. it’ll get resold at a “family” dealership, and you’ll never see it again. If the thieves weren’t idiots, had connections, and you car was a tuner/custom, making rebadging difficult -you car isn’t a car anymore. it’s parts, being sold off via any number of chopshops and e-bay stores. An errant VIN or two might show up in a few years on another tuner, probably on an engine block or an ECM, after it gets confiscated or impounded, and someone may or may not break the bad news to you. You’ll never see it again. If the thieves weren’t idiots, had very scary connections, and your car was luxury stock -your car is probably headed to Asia, where “Inspections” can be passed for a few hundred bucks, if you catch my drift. China is a likely destination - their appetite for luxury cars far surpasses their moral compulsion for honest trade. you’ll never see it again, and you’ll never know.there is a very, very tiny chance that you can search the VIN on dealership sites near you to see if a dealer was actually stupid enough to take the car as is, but even if the thieves were stupid enough to try and sell it through “clear” channels, most dealers would run a VIN inspection, see it as stolen, and either pay to have it rebadged by a chopshop or turn down the thieves outright.sorry, but that’s the truth.
