The problem has happened to me a number of times in the past with various systems. This particular problem happened on a Dell Optiplex GX150 after I noticed I couldn't use my CD Rom in Windows 2000. I saw there was only a single channel IDE controller in the device manager so went to Dell website and got the list of drivers specific to my computer, using the system tag number on the PC. This showed the Ultra ATA controller driver as the one I needed so I downloaded and installed as instructed. On the reboot the computer made a nice BSOD with "Inaccessible Boot Device" as the error. I'm hoping there is a way to rectify this without rebuilding the system from scratch. Does anyone know of an offline registry editor I can use to manually remove any reference to the device. I know my way round the registry so no prob there! This will resolve the BSOD I'm sure of it!
