How Do I Make An Exception With Sophos Anti-virus

Do Android phones need antivirus or internet security apps?

Before answering your question, you must understand the basic architecture of the Android operating system. Viruses are the consequences of vulnerability of the system to protect itself from any external programs that work maliciously without the knowledge of user and/or system. Here is the basic architecture diagram of the Android:You will notice that all the programs are installed in userland area (uppermost layer) below which application framework is there.Fundamentally all Linux based distributions are immune to any viruses. Android has no exception. Android is just yet another Linux based mobile operating system. So, the answer to your question is NO! Android phones need not any antivirus. But that doesn’t mean that Android is safe from Malwares & Viruses, just the mechanism & propagation (spreading) of the intrusion of the Virus or any Malware is different than that of Windows.Viruses & Malwares come from user installed programs. They can not spread automatically like Windows Viruses. Here, end user is culprit, who confers user rights to such programs that may infect userland area of the applications.Precautions to be taken while installing any App from the store or USB:Don’t trust any application from Play store blindly. Please verify the developer of the app & it’s reputation. e.g. see image:Before installations, please check permission asked by the app. In any case if you feel this app may cause damage, malfunction and any other suspicious permission, do not install that app.(This app seeks permission to retrieve running apps & read sensitive log data. Do not install such applications.) By conferring such permissions you allow that malicious application to take your phone’s control, and you feel that your phone has been infected with the virus.DO NOT INSTALL ANY POPULAR ANTI-VIRUS (OFTEN FOUND AD ON TV) ON YOUR PHONE. SUCH ANTI-VIRUS GENERATES FAKE VIRUS REPORT AND CONVINCE USER THAT HOW IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND HOW WISE YOU ARE THAT YOU CHOSE TO INSTALL THIS ANTI-VIRUS.Also do not install such apps which displays malicious ads which tells that your phone has been infected and install so and so anti-virus. Do no trust on such ads and simple do not install such apps which shows such ads.

Do I need an antivirus program for my Macintosh? Why or why not?

Because Apple did a great job making us believe Mac's are magical computers and are an exception to reality. In reality, it is possible to be virus free in any computer and any operating system. Yes, even the famous Windows XP. But it requires actions that 90% os users don't do: don't click on strange links, don't access untrusted websites, don't open untrusted executables, etc. That's why we need antivirus, we are the problem, we trust too much, and virus makers exploit that. Now, Mac and Linux are said to be much less vulnerable or completely immune to virus. This is not true. There are very nasty virus for both Mac and Linux. There just aren't that many virus for them as there are for Windows. And why is that? Because Windows is much more used, so most virus makers only want to spend time making virus for them. Also, before Vista, making virus for Windows was a lot easier, the system had a lot less security that Linux, Mac or moden Windows.Mac computers are now being more used, so obviously, there has been an increase in Mac virus. Basically what determines if you need an antivirus or not is not the operating system, but the user and its actions.

OUTLOOK.EXE Virus! Need info and how to get rid of!?

Hello Ham Ham ,

This is a valid entry, but is classified as 'user's choice'.
It may not be needed, but that depends on whether the user deems it necessary.

Item Details
Name: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Filename: OUTLOOK.EXE
Description: Related to Microsoft_Office from Microsoft. Outlook program.
Located in \%Program Files%\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\
http://www.systemlookup.com/Startup/6501...
Which means you can stop the process in task manager or change the start-up to manual in "Services"

" My AVG sometimes likes to inform me that BlackHole Exploit Kits are trying to attack my computer"
That's a whole different story/game plan: and "Explorer.EXE" being all in caps is NOT normal

Can a router store a virus?

I can't believe every one missed your question. A router does not get a virus, but it can be hijacked. Once hijacked it takes you to bad sites that infect your computer again. So your computer is infected, and your router is hijacked. Users reformat their computer, go online and get infected again because they are sent to bad sites. So they think the malware is still there even after a reformat.
So you need to make sure your computer is malware free then all you have to do is reset your router. Push in the reset button and hold in for a minute. Due to the fact that most router are secure, you don't see this much, but on a used older modem, you are right it could be redirecting you.

Does Popcorn Time put any viruses, adware, or anything else bad into your computer when you download it? Is it safe?

Good news is that till time official sources are clean. But there are always means to infect, which can bring threats to your device that's, when you download a piece of software (popular freewares like utorrent or even popcorn time) from sponsored sites or other unofficial websites. There is always a chance that they will infect your device first, then install the required software {BEWARE}.So always avoid clicking on links which claim to install the software in demand. Always download softwares form official sources only.Hope this helps.

How to remove the Free Sound Recorder Virus from my computer?

Do porn sites give your computer viruses?

Some of them can come packing malware, but that's usually the WMV-DR format. FLV format is generally safe on a hosted site, but if any site in any format asks you for permission to install a codec, watch out. The codec could be packing the aforementioned malware and if you give it permission to install, you are well and truly screwed - and not in a good way. Make sure you have a Fort Knox-like security system (overlapping but compatible security tools, of course) and listen to it if it starts yelling "Dude! Don't go there!!!". Also, if you haven't already, make sure you have a thumb drive with removal tools for a variety of malware/viruses archived on it and update them weekly. That way if you do get hit, you've got a fighting chance. You can go to http://majorgeeks.com/ for plenty of freeware and shareware to help protect yourself and fix your box if you do get hit. Also, thumb drives are stupid cheap. Just hit Staples or any other office supply store if you don't have a big electronics discount store near you, they're very commonly used in office environments now.

If I were you I'd also back up any files you would miss if they were lost on your drives at least once a week. There are sites online that will let you do this for free. Check out http://www.adrive.com/ or do a search for one you find more suitable for your needs.
