Can tanning in a tanning bed make your body hair lighter?

It's UV light, so just like the sun, it can lighten hair.

Body hair, especially on men, is different than head hair. It's thicker, coarser, and less vulnerable. As such, it isn't as subject to lightening as head hair.

If you actually WANT to lighten it, try applying lemon juice before you tan. It opens the cuticles and makes the hair more vulnerable to UV damage, or lightening.

Can you 'shave' body hair with a lighter?

Assuming I take all other safety measures, could one effectively remove body hair with a lighter? I have a couple larger, but still isolated patches of hair that I hate shaving, and a friend of mine told me to use a lighter and burn the hair away. He also said that it would be like waxing, only it hurts less and it's free. Has anybody tried this, or have any input?
Again, if I were to try this, I would have a wet towel handy, and I would be standing next to a running shower.

The back is still pretty short, light, and thin, but in the front is a happy trail, and i can see it barely beginning on the rest of my torso. Why is body hair different from head hair?

Human hair comes in two basic types: terminal hair, which grows on the scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes, and vellus hair, which is found everywhere else. Beyond that, the main difference between hair types is how long they grow for before the follicle runs out of steam. This is what determines their length and thickness.Hair follicles go through cycles of growth and dormancy. During the growth phase the hair grows continuously at about 0.4 millimetres per day, getting longer and thicker in the process. But at some point the hair-producing cells die off and growth stops. The hair falls out and the follicle goes dormant for around six months before sprouting new hair-producing cells and entering a new growth phase. The length of the growth phase is controlled by hormones. Leg hairs grow for about two months, which is why they are short and fine. Armpit hairs make it to six months, but head hairs grow non-stop for six years or more. That means head hair can theoretically grow to almost a metre in length.Human hair is decidedly unique. Most of our body hair is so wispy and short as to be almost invisible, though in some places it is coarse and curly. Our head hair is almost uniquely long and flamboyant. We are pretty much the only animal to have hair that grows continuously for many years, and also to suffer the indignity of going bald.

How much body hair is normal for women?

Women have just as much body hair as men. All women do.The difference is that with most women the hairs are shorter and finer (and sometimes lighter coloured) so they’re not as visible. If you look at a woman’s cheek with a bright light just behind it you’ll see a “peach fuzz” with just as many hairs as a man’s beard.Women from certain parts of the world (for instance Mediterranean countries) do have more visible hair than others (say Nordic countries). But that’s just because it’s thicker and darker. They actually don’t have any more hair.So often how much is “normal” depends on who your ancestors were.As for where it might show up on some women, mostly it might occur as a sort of light moustache or sideburns that go down a little bit more. Nothing to really be worried about. Women with hair like this can be just as good-looking as women without. As for other areas, I once knew a woman who had as much chest hair at the age of about 30 as I’d had when I was around 20 years old.I also knew a woman once who had a tail like a horse. It was about 18 inches long, blonde and straight like a horse’s tail and started right at the top of her buttocks just where you’d expect a horse’s tail to start.
