TV shows no pictures and sound only the caption info from Cable?

IF your Tv shows the Cable's Display then the wiring from your cable box is sending it's signal to the TV set....

So you do not have a cabling /connection problem between the two units.....and if the display is being UPDATED by cable (it's showing the proper times, shows, and show's information), then the CABLE Box is properly connected to the Cable wiring too....

Since you don't get a picture or sound, I THINK your cable box is actually LOCKED UP !! And WHY didn't the cable person REALIZE THAT?!!

UNPLUG the power cord from the cable box for 5 minutes. Then plug it back in and you should have your cable shows again.......

Now, if that doesn't work, but you get sound....let's make sure your CLOSED CAPTIONING on your TV set is turned off, ok?

LOOK at your remote control for the TV set......
Look for a button on the remote labled or .
Press it over and over until you see the word OFF appear on your TV screen.

Now I REALLY REALLY THINK the problem is a locked up cable box because you DON'T get picture and you DON'T get sound.....

And I have had hundreds of cable boxes lock up on my customers, and they all think it's the TV is bad. It's not, the cable box just can't process the audio and video coming from the cable company....

And the Cable helper doesn't listen 100% to what you've said.
I LISTENED to you....that's why I have a better chance of fixing your problem.....

You can't mix fonts, styles and colors in one caption - and you can't put 2 captions in the same section of a clip. You'd have to plan your caption. Add one caption to your project, finish editing, save your project as a movie then re-open it in Movie Maker, add the second part of the caption and save it as a movie again..

Big black box taking up my TV screen?

The other day I was trying to hook up my cousin's xbox, but I didn't have the original remote to the TV (I guess it's lost) and couldn't change the mode to video 1. I hit the menu button on the screen but couldn't navigate to any of the options without my remote, so I couldn't set up the xbox. My cousin went upstairs and hooked up his xbox to my brother's tv and it was fine. I couldn't make the menu box go away, so I turned the tv off. When I turned it back on, there was a big black box. I've turned it off, unplugged it, etc but nothing works. How do I get it off? The TV is one of those really heavy ones. It's JVC and I think we bought it in the early 2000's.

MY TV IS NOT OLD, IVE HAD IT FOR LESS THAN TWO YEARS. TWO DAYS AGO A BLACK RECTANGLE APPEARED ON THE TV SCREEN NOT ALLOWING US TO SEE THE ENTIRE PICTURE. IT TAKES UP ABOUT 1/4 OF THE ENTIRE SCREEN. IT WILL NOT GO AWAY UNLESS YOU CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND THEN WITHIN A FEW SECONDS IT COMES BACK, ALWAYS IN THE SAME SPOT. IVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES. WE HAVE DIRECT TV AND ITS NOT HAPPENING TO OTHER TVS IN THE HOUSE. WHATS THE CAUSE, IS IT WORTH PUTTING IN THE SHOP OR IS IT TOO BIG OF A PROBLEM OR TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX? I HATE TO THROW IT AWAY, ITS THE LARGEST TV I OWN.
