How Do You Now If Ignition Switch Is Bad 95 Nissan Maxima

Only one ignition coil is bad, should I change the rest ones which are in good condition?

Some of these answers are flat effing out EMBARRASSING!First of all, the only answer anyone can give is “MAYBE”, or its cousin “it depends”. I didn't see where you pointed out a year, make, model and engine of the vehicle to even give anyone a real shot at giving a legitimate response. Some vehicles, you really are better off replacing ALL the coils due to design flaws. Depending on the circuit, they can wreck the drivers in the PCM (Ford, Mazda). As mentioned already, if the coils are buried under a plenum, you might consider replacing those that are trapped under it.It's true, some vehicles do not see many coil failures and therefore replacing all or more than just the failed coil may be overzealous.Someone compared coils to lug nuts….WTF! Unbelievable…I just don't even have the words…

What could be wrong with a Nissan Altima that cranks but wont start?

The fuel pump fuse is blown or the fuel pump has failed. The crank position sensor has failed. Turn the key to "Run"Listen for the fuel pump to run for a few seconds then stop.If you don't hear the pump run:1) Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position and remove. Check the fuse in the engine bay fuse panel. This is a panel encased in a plastic box and usually has "FUSES" printed on the cover. Inside are high draw, high amperage fuses and relays for things like the fuel pump. Find the pump fuse, pull it and look to see if it's good. If it's blown, replace it with same amp rating fuse. Check again to see if you hear the pump run. If it does, you're lucky. Press on. Car should start. If the pump still doesn't run then see 2 below.2) If the fuse is good, then it's a good chance the pump has failed. You will have to tow the vehicle to the shop; it's dead in the water. If you hear the pump run and the car cranks but will not start, chances are it is the Crank Position Sensor (CPS). The CPS feeds info to the engine management computer telling it the crankshaft is rotating and to allow fuel flow and ignition to occur. If the computer doesn't get the CPS input, the car will not start. Again, dead in the water and a tow to the shop.Just had this experience on my '98 GMC pickup ...good pump, engine spins, no start. A flat bed ride to the local shop and ...ta-da! ...OBDII code reads CPS malfunction. Four hundred and some odd bucks later, she's up and running like a top.

I scanned my 99 nisan maxima and it come back w these codes P0325, P0300 P1105? anybody know what they mean?

Now that mad jack is done typing... P0325 Knock sensor will not set a check engine light. Random misfire can be spark plugs or coils. Tune up parts and malfunctioning coils are most likely cause of the (skipping). P1105 Map Baro switching solenoid Valve. The map sensor is located on the air intake and is switches between Manifold Air Pressure and Barometric pressure with a electrical vacuum valve. The engine computer needs that information to calculate the fuel mixture. Always run a compression test when the spark plugs and coils are removed. 143 minium 165 / 185 normal.

How can you tell if your ignition switch is bad?

check power  self motor relay when the switch is closed, poor contact problems you see small arcs and relay hissing noise, check the continuity of switch. it should be replaced as it damages the self motor relay contact point and even self motor

94 automatic Nissan Sentra wont shift out of park.....?

When you step on the brake pedal, do your brake lights come on? Check this first.

If your brake lights DO NOT come on, it's the brake light switch located up the brake pedal.

The transmission won't shift out of park unless you are stepping on your brake. This is a safety system built into many vehicles.

The system knows you're stepping on your brake through the brake light switch. So if the brake light switch is broken and indicating you're not stepping on the brake pedal it won't let you shift out of gear. Easiest way to determine if the brake light switch is working is to see if your brake lights turn on when you step on the brakes.

If it's not working you need to get a new brake light switch.

1995 Nissan cranks but won't start???

My husband is a diesel mechanic so he has tried everything he knows to do to the car. As far as checking sparks and fluids etc. We have called garages to look at it but either they can't get to it for a few weeks or they wat 600.00 just to look at it (without fixing) As for the last time we drove it it ran wonderful. I parked it in the drive and then moved it from one spot to another turned it off and went out 2 days later and it will crank but won't start. It has done this in the past and we have had it towed in to a garage and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and it would start after the tow. It has been over a year since it has done this. The computer codes said O2 sensor which he replaced today. It also said EGR error which he replaced the hose to it today. The fuel pump ignites you can hear it. The battery cables ect. have all been checked. The only difference is that now when we turn the key off the anti-theft device doesn't beep like it did before.

My car has been sitting for two weeks without gas and now won't start?

Oh...I was gonna say that perhaps all of the fuel had evaporated, but you have noted here that you put two gallons of gas in it. There might also be water in the fuel line.

Here's an idea:

While turning the key, press the accelerator all the way to the floor. That's my only idea. Good luck, I know it sucks having car trouble.

The anti-theft in my car won't turn off. What should I do?

Answer from WikiHow. Can be found here as well. Some cars have an automatic theft system built in that can sometimes become activated without any threats. Here is how you can correct this problem without causing your battery to die.Method 1:Turning the Theft System Off from Inside the Car1 Check for a light on the dashboard. It will say System on "Theft System" or something similar.2 Make sure nothing is loose if you tried to take anything apart.3 Check to see if the battery has not been drained. At that point the car will not do any thing, except make a slight effort to start. If the battery is dead, ask someone to help jump start it for you.4 Place the key in the ignition, and turn it slightly to the right. This is also known as position 2, in which the car is on but the engine is off. This gives power to the necessary components to allow this method of bypassing the alarm to work. When you turn the key the radio should work, and the dash lights should light up.5 Keep the key that way for ten minutes, maybe a little more. The theft system light should turn off, and the car can be started.Method 2Turning the Theft System Off Outside of the Car1 Insert the key in the driver's side door. Even if you have a keyless entry, you'll want to use the actual, physical car key and place it in the lock on the outside of the driver's side door.2 Turn the key and hold it. Turn the key so that you unlock the door, but hold it in place for several seconds. This can sometimes bypass the factory alarm and allow you to start the vehicle. This method lets the vehicle know that you have the actual key to the vehicle and in most cases will bypass in the even the key fob (the part that permits keyless entry) is broken, misplaced, or has a dead battery. This method most commonly works in BMW's, Mercedes, and VW's.

What are some symptoms of a bad idle air control sensor?

Idle air control valves open to allow more air to "leak" into the intake, raising the engine rpms, or close when not needed. When your AC compressor kicks in or power steering is activated as you suddenly turn the steering wheel, the sudden drag on the drive belt will bog down the engine. These systems send a signal to the engine computer telling it they are active and it then signals the IAC valve to open, which increases the engine speed. Without this occurring,  the engine could struggle, or die. The IAC valve can cause weird idle issues, mess with throttle functionality or cause the car to die. Sometimes they fail, get stuck or just get all carboned up. Sometimes people have success at cleaning them, but generally it is best to replace them when bad. Idle issues and even problems with the IAC valve may not be due to the IAC valve being bad itself. An idle issue does not mean the IAC valve is bad. It is best to pay close attention to how the vehicle is acting, and then communicate that clearly and as completely as possible to your mechanic. Intermittent problems can be very hard to diagnose. Details will help. Knowing more about the vehicle in question and its symptoms (in detail) will also help in understanding more about what it is doing.
