How Do You Put The Stand On The Flat Screen Tv

Help with mounting a flat screen on a stand?

I am getting a Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100 series 40" LCD HDTV. It may be the end of the week before I actually receive it.

We don't want to mount it on the wall (we have paneling and plaster behind that, in our living room - that gets messy). So today I purchased a tv stand that basically has two glass shelves on the front of it, and on the back of the stand, a steel support goes up and there is a swivel mount for the tv. There are the typical mount bars (one on top, one on bottom) on the rectangular mount on the stand.

The question: Will my tv come with the brackets necessary to mount this tv, or do I have to purchase them separately? Are they all universal in the way that they mount? I can't find the stand online anywhere that I purchased today. I'm planning on putting it together and just waiting on the tv to see what other hardware I will need. Any suggestions?

Can you mount any flat screen tv?

We have a 42" flat screen, that sits on its own stand attached to it, on a tv table. After living in a 700sq foot apartment for almost a year now, the tv table has proven to be a space liability. Granted, we are moving into an apartment that has almost 200 more square feet...and a livig room that has 2 walls that measure 17 1/2 feet, while our current living room measures a 13 by 16 foot room. Not to mention they consider that small room big enough for a small dining table as well...needless to say we run into something anytime we walk. I've seen the model of our next apartment a few times now, and the layout is set up to where I can have the tv in the corner of the room, on either wall. I've seen how tv mounts are put in, but the flat screen mounts look trickier. Can ANY flat screen be mounted, as long as the weight and size requirements are met for the mount to be supportive enough? How do these mounts work, meaning how are they mounted to the tv? This would help me a ton, because I can't find the right tv stand to minimize wasted space, and I'm not a fan of my tv being a foot or so from the ground. This is an apartment that we are going to live in until we can buy a house, so I need a long term solution. Thanks!

Is it normal for a flat screen TV on a stand to have a little wiggle?

Actually, most HDTV's bases are quite stable and have little to no wiggle. There are a few HDTVs that have cheaper base designs and, therefore, do allow the TV to wiggle back and forth rather significantly. The SONY series "L" and "S" series are the two most notable exceptions at 40" and above. If this is your TV, then this is normal.

The Samsung A530 series' base allows the TV to swievel and sometimes does also have a little play.

Would you have your flat screen TV installed on your wall?

Putting the TV on the wall does look nice, but if you have other components to go with it, you still need a place to put them. I have a cable box, DVD player, and receiver. The stand I got was made for flat TVs, so it is very thin (comes about 16" away from the wall. It gives me a place to put the components and looks pretty sharp. I have seen TVs mounted on the wall when components are in a small cabinet, stand, or similar. The components always look out of place. Keep in mind that your components need to breathe. If you are considering placing them in a remote location, it needs to be well ventilated. Also keep in mind the signal attenuation. If the components are 15 feet from the TV (vs 3 feet) the signal may loose quality.

Obviously do whatever you think will look best in your place. I suggest a stand because it looks good, can be cheaper than the wall mount, holds your components, and is more flexible if you ever want to change the arrangement of your entertainment room.

Is it safe to put a 60 inch tv on a 54 inch stand?

I cant find any 60 inch tv stands i can afford would it be ok to put a 60 in. on a 54 in. stand. Also im not sure if it would just look silly with 3 inches hanging over. Would it just make the stand look way to small?

How do I remove a flat screen TV from a wall mount when I don't have access to see behind it? It is above a fireplace and embedded into the wall with about 4" of space on top and bottom to reach my wrist behind, so I can’t get very far.

Thanks for A2A.How do I remove a flat screen TV from a wall mount when I don't have access to see behind it? It is above a fireplace and embedded into the wall with about 4" of space on top and bottom to reach my wrist behind, so I can’t get very far.The link you provided shows no photo. It probably would have been better to put the photo in a comment. Most of these sorts of mounts are in two pieces. One attaches to the wall; the other attaches to the TV. The TV is then put in place by sliding its fitting into or over the wall fitting. There will be at least one (maybe as many as four) anti-theft retention screws. Once these are removed, depending on the size and weight of the TV, it might require at least two people to lift it far enough upward so that it can come forward and off.Rather than tearing your hair out, I suggest using a hand-held mirror and a torch to locate such retention screws. You will probably require a fairly long #2 Philips’ Head screwdriver.

50" tv, buy a tv stand or hang it on wall?

Wall mounting a TV presents certain challenges with regard to the cabling on the back (power cord, signal cable, DVD player connections, etc.). It can be done and many do it, but you have to be aware of what's involved.

Another thing about plasma: we've seen complaints here about the highly reflective screen. If you wall mount it, you can't move it slightly to deal with the reflection from a sunny window, a lamp in the room, etc.

Another thing: a plasma set that big is going to weigh a lot, maybe close to a hundred pounds. There are sturdy mounts for the purpose that can handle such weight, but again you get back to the challenges you have to put up with in wall mounting such sets. Besides, a heavy-duty wall mount frame can cost another $50 to $150.

For those reasons, I would never wall mount a plasma set. Put it on some type of stand that gets the screen approximately eye-level when you're sitting in front of it.
