How Does A Person Survive In Prison

How can a person with Autism survive prison?

The person with autism is chosen as the counter since he's the only one that can even count to 100. If the light switch is on, no prisoner will touch it. If it is off, and a prisoner who has never flicked the switch enters, then he flicks the switch on. It stays like that until the counter returns. The counter never flicks it up, only flicks it down. Once he notices that it's been flicked up 99 times, he says that 100 prisoners have visited, and they go free.

How do people survive once they get out of prison?

Not very well. The corrections system is well funded for the Puritanical Values of punishment and condemnation which is why inmate sexual violence upon other inmates is almost considered part of the sentenced’s punishment by much of the public. In most prisons and states there is almost nothing in funding for reintegration resources. In a humanistic corrections system, the incarcerated would not be exposed to extra-environmental punishments other than being removed from society and locked up. Punishment is the purview of the courts. The punishment is removal from the community, the purpose of prisons is, “care & custody”. Released inmates with familial support may do better but more often than not they are so damaged by the antisocial, predatory environment they have been exposed to, it has damaged them so much that they just further damage the family system. And the cycle continues. V-wala, the 1% has an intentionally engineered permanent underclass living in poverty to scape goat, which will guarantee more inmates & scape goats who are overwhelmingly people of color.

How do you survive a prison riot?

Stay on your feet at all costs: Once you get knocked over it is very hard to get back up again and people will be stepping on you (which is how you can be most seriously injured). Grab onto people if you need to prevent yourself from falling over, but keep standing. Go with the flow: There is something to be said for the fact that this mentality is contributing to the problem in the first place, but the question here asks how to "protect yourself", not how to be socially responsible and stop the mob. Going against the stampede to stop or try and help someone is the most likely way to get knocked over. When the news stories break about Black Friday stampede injuries there are usually at least two or more injuries mentioned. The one who fellow over and the one who stopped to help. You don't have to run, though, try to move as slow as you can without getting pushed over. This actually makes it easier to stay on your feet while at the same time if enough people do this the herd will slow down (and you can step around fallen people, rather then over of them).  If you do fall, scream bloody murder: It's sad to say but people (or at least not enough people) don't always stop rushing to their bargain TVs or free food, but sometimes they do (for example the video below). However its not enough for one or a few people to do so (they'll just end up getting hurt too, most likely) you need lots of people to at least slow to a walking pace and give you room to get back up. That can only happen if lots of people know you are in trouble, and since its hard to see in a stampede you'll have to yell real loud.

How do “soft” people survive in prison?

While most of the other answers are true or at least partially true. I’ll let you in on a big secret.Prison (at least in WA state) isn’t all that hard.Mind your own business and do your own time, keep your head down and your eyes open and pretty much nobody will mess with you.If you don’t like the drama, stay out of the dayrooms. Nothing but trouble, lies and drama out there. My first stint down I was a total house mouse. I did work three shifts a day at the school. I got paid $2 an hour as a curriculum/software developer. That is what would be considered a princely sum in prison. I sent money home every month, paid off an old Pell grant and still had a couple thousand when I got out. I’d had no experience, but we trained as we went.Watch yourself in the yard. just stick to walking the track. And always be suspicious of someone who wants to be your friend. Prison is a graduate school for criminals. These guys already know how much money you have, what you get from the canteen, who you talk to and probably what you say. They just want to use you. You didn’t go to prison on the buddy plan, so don’t start now.

Could a socially awkward person survive being in prison?

Not just could they survive, they would positively thrive! I wasn’t necessarily socially awkward before I went inside but, after I was in there for some time I decided, deliberately, to limit my contacts with other people inside that place. I learned that it was a lot less problematic when you only had yourself to worry about. I simply drew a line in the sand which nobody was allowed to cross and stood firm. Occasionally someone would test that line. You just had to respond appropriately when that time came and it would generally be okay. When those guys see that a person is serious about his sovereignty and willing to fight, kill, or die over it, they will pretty much leave you alone. Being socially awkward in prison is a good thing. The less contact you have with others in there the better off you’ll be. When you make “friends” with other guys in there, you have to “be down” with them if anything happens. Like I said, I knew I wasn’t gambling or doing drugs or anything else untoward, so I rarely had any problems to deal with from other prisoners. I preferred it that way. If anyone steps on my line it’s completely on me. The only negative is that prisoners who are by themselves sometimes get tested more than, say, a gang member.

How do weaker inmates survive in prison?

Prison does not have to be hard. Regardless of your physical or mental stature, there are a few rules that you must follow in order to expect to survive prison unscathed. Bear in mind that these rules have nothing to do with the rules of whatever facility you're incarcerated in. These rules are convict rules, and are standard for every prison yard in the US.Do not tell on anybody, for any reason.Do not fraternize with convicts of another race than your own. If you do, understand that you are putting your life or your health at risk.Mind your own business at all times, and use 100% of your common sense at all times. There will be seating arrangements divided by race in the chow hall. Learn this and remember it.Wash your hands before exiting the bathroom every time you use it. And maintain good hygiene in general. I have seen people beaten severely for not showering daily.Defer to, and show respect to the older convicts. You do not get to survive prison to old age by accident. There may be times when you are directly challenged by another convict. If this happens, you must be prepared to respond physically. Do not hesitate. Even if you are beaten, it is okay because you fought. (This is what is known as being “stand up.”) If you try to talk your way out of it or refuse to fight, your suffering will be legendary afterward.Do not gamble, borrow, or use drugs that you get “up front” with the promise that you'll pay later without knowing beyond doubt that you'll be able to pay.If you “PC up” (ask a guard to place you in protective custody) bear in mind that anywhere you go from that point forward, somebody will be there who remembers that you PC’d up. This will get you severely beaten or killed, eventually. Don't do it.Following those rules will ensure that you make it to the other end of your sentence intact. Combined with a good exercise routine, and a lot of reading, you'll be a better person when you are released than you were when you got there. Everyone is “weaker” than someone else, at some point. Don't worry about it, just follow those rules, and you'll be okay.Edit: These guidelines are indicative of prisons in the Western / Southwestern US in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I welcome all comments from convicts who were released more recently than 2006 who have information that runs contrary to what I’ve written above. My goal here is to be right, more so than to seem right.
