Yes, you could insert some sort of structure inside the bears, but that might require some drastic surgery! Another option is just to use some sort of support that will be hidden behind the bear and won't be very obvious. Is this for photographs? Many pics you see are "staged" with all kinds of things holding it together behind the objects or people. If it is for a display, you may have to get a bit more inventive. Perhaps you can have the bear "leaning" on something but the bear will actually be hanging off it. As long as it looks like it is standing, that is all that matters.

Well I have my hides done by a friend taxidermist and they have it done in about a week. However you can expect 3 to 9 weeks for most places that do this. And expect from $30 to $55 a sq foot for them to make a quality rug from the hide, shipping would be added to that. Then there are other options with the rug such as a backing. I have more horror stories for you, from people who went “the cheap” with some little known company and things went very bad. Some got their rug 6 months later and it was a hack job. And a few never got the rug or hide back at all. So go with a company with good references and reviews. It really is better to pay a little more. Some companies wont take the green hide. Others will process either green or tanned. A tip: Before the shot really look for rub spots or mange spots. And when you skin it out use a very small blade for around the eyes and get that hide shipped ASAP! Have everything figured out where & how you will send it before the hunt. If you do it yourself, like I used to, it’s a real chore and it will still take you a week, minimum 5 days.

Here's something you can use for the future. Get yourself some tiny C-clamps. You can find them in assorted sizes at any hardware store. Its made of metal and uses a bolt to wind the clamp for a tighter closure. They work really good since its made of all metal and can take the heat from the oven and come in all sizes.
What to do if you encounter a bear?
Make yourself big, and use loud noises, or play dead. It depends on the type of bear. Blackbears are pretty easy to spook, and if they see you they go running. With a grizzly, i would probably play dead, but your chances of surviving a grizzly attack by going limp are nil. In every other situation, pull out the flaps of your coat, adopt a wide stance and just look big. Most bears will not give you any more problems than stealing your food (so be sure to use a pully system to suspend your eatables). I like to arm myself so I can give any bear a twelve guage haircut, but you probably wouldn't be allowed that at school :p its probably also a good idea to keep baloney to distract the bear. Baloney is also useful for distracting guard dogs, or for whenever you get hungry. In fact, theres probably no place you shouldn't take baloney.
