How Long Did It Take For Birth Control To Help Your Acne

How long for birth control to clear up acne?

So I started taking Tri-Linyah birth control today. I am taking it for acne. It is not for preventing pregnancies because I have never had sex and I will not until I am out of high school. So I have pretty bad acne and my dermatologist said to try birth control so I did. I want to know how long will it take to positively effect my acne?

How long did birth control take to clear your acne?

Hi I've been taking tri sprintec (generic of ortho tri cyclen) for my acne. My dermatologist prescribed it to me because I have horrible acne it's not like crazy severe but I think it's very bad. Well I've been taking it a week and haven't noticed any changes. How long does it take for it to clear your skin?

Thank you.
Anyone who knows PLEASE answer! :)

Does birth control help get rid of acne?

Yes it should. For me it was my miracle cure for my acne. Gosh I had it bad. All over my back too. Now I can hardly remember I ever used to have bacne or just acne on my face.

However my cousin also took it and it caused her wieght to balloon due to the fact it increases your appetite A LOT. For me though It didn't cause any changes in my weight, thank goodness, although I am always in the pantry, haha.

Also its handy to go on the BC, since you can use it to skip your periods, or just not have your period at all. Dont worry this is not bad for you, since technically you stop having a true period when you go on the BC. You only will be having artificial periods, if that makes sense.

Also beware you may become very dependent on the Birth control pills, as for most girls when you go off the pills your acne will probably come back (even worse) since its going to mess up your hormone balance again. So when you do decide to come off the birth control pill after using it for your acne , make sure you wean yourself off it SLOWLY. cut up the pills and start reducing them etc.

good luck hun!

How long does it take for birth control to help acne?

Do you have any experience with it and if so, how did your body react.
I am on my 2nd week of pills (1st pack) and I take Aviane. I usually don t have acne but now I have a few bumps here and there. How long does it take for my body to get used to the hormones?

How Long does BIRTH CONTROL take to work to Stop ACNE??!!?

If you were given birth control for acne then I would recommend getting another doctor, given the fact that hormonal birth control affects your whole body, it has a host of side effects, and it suppresses your menstrual cycle, it should be a last option in birth control, and not ever used to treat something like acne. Unfortunately many doctors do this as a quick-fix, it saves them the time of offering alternative treatments, but when it comes to hormonal birth control there is no exact science to it, there is no way for a doctor to predict how your body will react to it so there is no way that they can accurately use it as a treatment for any particular problem. The rule of thumb is to wait 3 months, then it is time to switch to another brand or type of birth control, if you don’t need this as birth control you’re better off without it. Doctors will always prescribe either the cheapest or most popular brands of birth control, if its right for you then you should experience no side effects, as such you need to be able to have a doctor educated and willing to make changes to suit your needs. Sorry but it’s plain foolish to use hormonal birth control to treat acne considering how it effects your body and all it’s possible serious side effects. Birth control does not treat acne, it can help acne in some cases if the acne is a result of hormonal problems, but then it does so in such a way not to fix the problem but by covering it up, even then you’d have had to have had tests carried out and birth control isn’t the best option at all for hormonal problems. Seriously, don’t just start popping pills like birth control when you don’t know what it does or how it works, certainly not in an attempt to rid yourself of acne.

As for acne, what other treatments have you attempted? I’m assuming over the counter, so then I’d ask what dietary changes you have made, or whether you have tried simple methods such as using Oil Cleansing Method, both these things tend to work in most cases. If they don’t then look at going to a specialist, don’t just be fobbed off with a quick-fix that’s not going to work.

How long does birth control take to get rid of acne?

it can take up to about 6 months! But some birth control pill won't help acne, there are specific brands of the pill which are designed to help with acne though. Before they begin to work they will normally make your skin go a little crazy and break out, however don't stress, it's worth the acne free skin afterwards and most of these breakouts are just acne that was already building under your skin, so in order to get clear your skin needs to rid of all of these first!
For me it did take around the 6 months but i now have perfectly clear skin!
(your doctor will know which pill to give you to help with this so just make it clear this is what you want!)

How long does birth control take to get rid of acne?

It depends on both the birth control, and what is truly the cause of your acne.
I take ortho tri cyclen, which is known for it's ability to clear acne, make a shorter period and lesson cramps. (if you could get passed the symptoms it comes with) And this specific BC could take up to two months to see improvement.
But remember:
There are other factors to acne, not just hormone levels (I have higher levels of testosterone too)
Continue to wash your face and use topicals such as ben. 10% and Sal. 2+%
Taking things like fish oil and birth control to help clear your acne will temporarily make it worse. your skin will purge; push out all the yucky stuff, for the first while, then keep it clear thereafter.

If you want a more natural approach here are my suggestions (from experience of course)
Raw honey and crushed aspirin (calms and reduces swelling, redness and the infected parts of pimples aka pustules) - about 2-4 tablets and mix with honey to desired texture (I like to use 6-8 though but I make it for 2 people) use it as a mask for about 30 minutes or overnight (play with it a little to see what works for your skin best)
Drink the recommended amount of water daily - this not only helps your organs but helps regulate the natural functions of your body, which usually acne is a sign that something is not working like it's supposed to.
A mask of egg whites (no yolk) baking soda and lemon juice

If you have dry skin then don't do either of those masks too often because it does have the tendency to dry your skin.

Also; I have trouble finding over the counter creams too. The only one that worked for me was adapalene - Differin, I'm thinking about using it again.

Sorry about the long response

How long does it take for the birth control pill to clear up acne?

I've been on Marvelon-28 for almost 2 months now. I was prescribed it to clear up my acne and to regulate my periods, but I'm almost done my 2nd packet and I haven't noticed a single improvement in my skin yet! My doctor was convinced this would work.

I've read around, and people say it takes "a few months", but it's been almost 2 months for me and there has been no improvement. So, for those who take/took the pill to clear up acne, how long before it cleared up your skin?
