What are the chances of a first time felony offender going to jail?
It is going to depend on a number of things: the type of crime, the way in which the crime was committed, the circumstances of the crime, and the offender's past criminal history. Let's say you broke into someone's home and stole over $250 worth of their belongings (that makes it a felony). If you did it because a bully said he would hurt your mother if you didn't get him the stuff is a more compelling reason than if you did it to get money to buy more video games for yourself and some good weed. You get points on a sentencing sheet for all these different things. Rack up so many points and it's off to the slammer for you. A sentence of under a year is served in the county jail. A sentence of over a year is served in a state prison. Generally. Every state has their own rules, but that's the way it usually goes. Some crimes have a jail sentence no matter what. Gun laws in Massachusetts for example have an automatic, no getting out of it, jail sentence if the crime was committed with a gun. First time offenders that committed a non violent crime and have no past criminal history will most likely get a suspended sentence, probation and fines. Suspended means you don't have to serve the jail time as long as you do your probation and pay the fines. If you screw up, you will be put in jail to serve the original sentence.

First offense breaking and entering for a minor charges?
Please dont judge, im worried and dont know what to do. My friend and i, age 14 & 16 went through a store window at night, i know its "breaking and entering" and we got caught. The owner is pressing charges, (not sure what) will we get charged for breaking and entering and burgerly? or just breaking and entering even though we did have an intent on taking a few things and was searched by the police and found stolen items on us? what are the charges and how bad can they be? jail time? probation? keep in mind we are minors, and this is first offense, never been in trouble with the law. No you cannot get in legal trouble for faking your age on the internet. You can get in trouble for lying on an affidavit which is what you are providing when you are REQUIRED to provide an age for verifying who your are or that you are old enough to view content. I can pretend to be 15 or 50, the action you do while you are misrepresenting your age can cause you legal problems. Like the examples below (pretend to be 15 to get nude pictures of children) the possession of the nude is the crime not pretending to be 15. If you are faking your age to be older, you are placing yourself is serious risk. For example if a 16 says he/she is 18 and "hooks up" with someone 25 the older person has some ground to defend (how often do you ID your date???) In this case Statutory Rape will be difficult to convict, unless there is obvious indication the person is lying.
Is it illegal to lie about your age in a Contest?
I entered a contest at a sporting event thinking I would never win. . . but then I did win. However, the contest requires you be at least 21 or older and I am only 19. When they called me to tell me I won I lied about my age (not about to give up this opportunity considering it is a BIG freaking prize) and now I'm worried if I get caught in this lie if there are greater consequinces then just getting disqualified?
