How Long To Wait To Change Earring After I Pierced My Own Cartilage

Can i bring my own earring to get my cartilage pierced ?

No, you absolutely cannot. I know of no parlors that will allow this. Do not change your jewelry until your piercing is healed.

Claire's/Icing/Piercing Pagoda definitely won't because they advertise free piercing with purchase of your starter earrings. It would not be good for business if they allowed people to bring in rings from elsewhere.

On top of that, if you were to get an infection, you could theoretically sue them for not insisting that you cannot use your own jewelry...even though it would be your fault for insisting [just like in the McDonalds Hot Coffee case...it was her fault], they cannot accept that liability.

Gold and Silver are not typically used today for initial piercing; my first set of holes were pierced with gold-plated titanium, but that was two decades ago. In fact, the starter jewelry they offer at Claire's really isn't piercing-grade titanium, when it comes down to it. Surgical steel, yes, but that isn't necessarily the best for an initial piercing.

If you go to a crappy mall piercing place that uses a gun, it will cost like $15-40. If you go to a respectable tattoo/piercing place, it will probably cost from $25-75.

When can I change my cartilage piercing?

Where exactly is the piercing? If its just in the cartildge,at the top of your ear,and not, say,an industrial piercing, which is two piercings, generally along the rim of the ear, connected by a single very long barbell, the healing times are different.Industrials take at least a year to heal, whereas regular cartiledge piercings take around 3 months to heal(although its often longer due to things like sleeping on the piercing).I'd say, wait wait at least 3 or 4 more weeks, because the threading on the bar (the part on either end, where the ball screws onto)can rip up still healing skin, which means healing time will be extended, and can cause infection, pain, pus, and swelling.Just be patient, and see how it goes.

Hope this helps!

How long should you wait to change a cartilage piercing?

i only waited a week and it never got infected or closed up or hurt

Earlobe Piercing: how long to wait until i can change my earring.?

Hey,

I got my ear pierced yesterday and I too hate my current earring.

Yes, unfortunately, both you and I have to wait an agonising 6 weeks before we can have an earring of our own choice and style.

The reason why you cannot change your earring for 6 weeks is because the starter earring (the earring both you and I have in now) is thicker metal so that during the six weeks our skin will re-heal around this thicker earring and when we take our earring out after six weeks our pierced hole will be big enough (width) to accommodate any earring. Other wise if you change your earring before the six weeks is up the hole will shrink to the size of the earring you have put in and when you take that earring out to change it, it will shrink further causing pain to put another earring in as you may have to use force.

P.S When I say thickness, I am referring to the piece of metal which is running through to earlobe, not the stud.

and

I also recommend Silver or Gold earrings. Not because they look better, because they are better quality and your skin won't have an allergic reaction when exposed to these metals.

Thank You,
Hope this helps + I hope both you and I don't encounter any infections over the next six weeks!
-Olly.

Oh, and to pass the time I suggest going on the internet or going to the shops and looking for some good earrings which you may want to put in after the six weeks and maybe purchasing them, this give you something to look forward to. (I have just purchased mine from eBay.)

Best Wishes!

How long should you wait to change your helix upper cartilage piercing?

I was told to wait for 12 weeks (3 months) before changing the piercing but I changed mine round the 2 month mark. I had to as the back was catching on my glasses and hurting it so I put a hoop in. It hurt worse than getting it done especially getting hoop in and closed. Would definitely say wait as long as possible to give it the most time to heal before changing it, but changing a bit earlier is not to bad mine has been fine since and healed better now it's not getting knocked with my glasses.

Can I change my earrings after I get them pierced?

As with all piercings, the initial jewellery should be left in until it has healed, unless you find you are allergic to the material its made from and in which case go back to the Piercer and have them change it (Titanium is often a good choice). If you had the piercing done somewhere like a jewellery/accessory shop, chances are they did it with a spring loaded “gun” that has used blunt force to drive a cheap gold plated metal stud through your earlobe, not really the best start for the piercing and neither the prettiest of jewellery either, so little wonder people can't wait to swap them out. This is why you are much better off and looked after by going to a reputable Piercing Studio in the first place. They will usually use a needle, which is a lot less traumatic than a gun and put initial jewellery in that you can live with while it heals. They will also be on hand to give you advice on aftercare or when the piercing has reached the point (is healed enough) to swap the jewellery.Good Luck

Can I change my cartilage piercing after two days??

I pierced my own cartilage two days ago and its really sore. I used a cheap silver earing to do it and my ears are really sensitive so I need to Change it to a gold one. Is that okay?

How long do I wait before i can change my earrings, after just getting an earlobe piercing?

You'll want to wait at least 8 weeks from the initial piercing date before you change the jewelry. After that, try not to change them more than once a week for the next six months. If you change them too often, you run the risk of irritation and prolonging the heal time. They will not be fully healed after 8 weeks, so make sure to have jewelry in at all times for 6-10 months after getting the piercing to prevent them from closing.

Can I change my earrings a month after piercing?

If the piercings are in your lobes (rather than the cartilage), then they may be healed at the four-week mark. Lobes are normally described as taking 4–6 weeks to heal. So that is the beginning of the healed phase. Therefore, it is important that you maintain appropriate hygiene, and gently insert new jewelry that is still suited to wear in healing piercings (no costume jewelry, nothing heavy, for example).

I pierced my own cartilage and im kinda afraid?

That was a very poor decision, and I'll tell you why.

1) The only thing that can sterilize anything is an autoclave.
2) An earring pushed through the ear like that uses blunt force, thereby damaging the tissue and possibly shattering the cartilage, which creates space for the large amounts of bacteria you introduced to turn into an infection.

So what you need to do now is leave the earring in. This is VERY important. If your ear does get infected, and you take the earring out, it will heal up and trap the infection inside your ear, creating an abscess. Do not touch the piercing unless you are cleaning it, and always wash your hands very well before doing so. Do not use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, soap, or any kind of lotion/cream/ointment, etc. Do not rotate or move the earring, or change your jewelry for a couple of months. And saline soaks are essential!

For a saline soak, use 1/2 teaspoon of SEA SALT. Dissolve this in 1 cup of water. The temperature should be warm, but not too hot. Aim for about the same temperature as you would drink a cup of coffee at. Turn your head on the side and soak your ear in that solution for about 10 minutes, twice a day. After a saline soak, rinse your ear with plain warm water, and let it air dry.

Please follow the advice I've given you, because I know what I'm talking about. I hope it works out okay, and please visit a professional next time!
