How Long Would My Patakeet Live Without Taking It To A Vet

How long can a parakeet live without a partner ( parakeet)?

The life expectancy of a budgie/parakeet has nothing at all to do with a partner. The life expectancy is determand by the diet and care. As long as your other budgie doesn't act sick I wouldn't take her to the Vet (I know how costly they can be) But keep an eye on her for a month or so. Get her a mirror, introduce new toys, leave the radio on, play budgie recordings (Chirping, singing). Or you can trick train her.
Trick training budgies is pretty easy. Just start trying to get her to fly to you, climb a ladder, talk, etc.

CLIMB THE LADDER: First you are going to need a ladder, place your bird at the bottom, say, "Climb" (Or whatever you want the cue to be) and touch her tail feathers. This should make her move upwards. If she moves up, give a treat. Each time making her go higher and higher.

~Hope this helps!!!~

How long can a parakeet survive without food?

A parakeet can survive around 3-4 days without food. However, it's not the food that will starve them, but the water. They can die in 72 hours from lack of water, so be sure to keep at least a full bottle of water in the cage. If you're going to leave for an extended period of time, don't ask how much food you should put in -- put in all the food you can fit.

But I would NEVER leave my parakeets alone for an extended period of time. Have someone take care of them for you, a friend or a relative perhaps. Parakeets simply can't survive for half a week without some human interaction -- they might actually sicken and die from the lack of attention.

How long can a parakeet live with cancer?

I just found out my 8 year old parakeet has cancer and he is really sick. I'm in college and will not be home until spring break which is about a month from now. He's honestly like a little brother to me and I really want to see him again. How long do you think he will live..? The vet said he is not in pain and he's still eating and drinking. I'm hoping he lives longer than a month because I don't want to see him die, I'm devasted enough =/ Thanks..

What should i do about my parakeets long beak??? HELP!!!?

So I have a parakeet thats about 6 months or more. and I got him in Decemeber of this year. I never really thought about trimming his beak until i saw this unhealthy parakeets online and his beak was super long and curved around causing the bird to have major pain. I see on my birds beak that it has the regular lenghth at wat it was when i bought him, and then some rough edged beak areas where it has gotten longer and sharper. Now everytime my Budgie Nim uses his beak to climb onto my finger, i get mad because I think he's nipping at me, but its actually that the tip is very sharp. How do I trim his beak? or do u trim his beak? I have a calcium/bone thingy in his cage but he doesnt chew on it, and thats wat is suppose to be keeping it filed. There is a pet vet near us that does bird but im not sure they can do beaks because they dont specailize in budgie parakeets...only parrots and parallets:) please answer:) and thanks to the people that do:)

My parakeet's beak seems to be a bit long ...?

DO NOT attempt to cut it yourself. Take it to someone who's experienced. Even though the beak isn't disabling the bird yet, it will if you wait, and you don't want the problem to get that far. Plus, it's very easy for you to disable the bird if you try to trim its beak yourself. Vets that treat birds do beak-trimming, and so do some pet stores. It's cheap - between $5-10 where I live. You might want to have them trim the bird's nails while they're at it.

Also, check the cuttlestone/cuttlebone. The bird should be able to scrape at the softer, chalky side. I recently visited a friend and noticed that her parakeets' cuttlebone was mounted with the wrong side facing out. She immediately reversed it and thanked me for the info. Turns out, she'd just had to take her bird in to a vet to have its overgrown beak trimmed, and she couldn't figure out why it had stopped using the cuttlebone in the first place.

How long does it take parakeets to get used to their new home?

its normal to not catch your birds drinking water. They take time to adjust to new surrounding. Each bird is different in the amount of time it takes to adjust. One bird might be fine in a few days while another may take 2 weeks to adjust. Just make sure you are changing their food and water bowls daily and are giving them a good dose of love and attention. Talk to them. Make sure you have toys in there for them too. All birds love toys. Budgies love swings. I used to own many many budgies til I moved on to bigger birds. If they start to stay on the bottom of the cage and not move around alot I would take them to the vet and get them checked out. I hope that you will take them to the vet to get them checked out after purchasing them. It is best to have a vet check them out while they are healthy so that they can weigh them and everything so that when they are not looking ok the vet has a starting ground of what they were like before hand. And it is always best to get a vet check of a new animal

When should I take my parakeet to the vet?

It's great to see that you're taking charge of your parakeet's health care! A good schedule for check ups is once a year. His beak shouldn't ever need trimming as long as he has something like a cuttlebone to chew on. If it does start to overgrow, take him to the vet and have him file it down. Never try to trim a beak yourself. There's lots of blood vessels in there, and only an expert can do it safely. As for nail trimming, you can do that at home. Trim his nails if they become too sharp or long. After the parakeet gets used to you and becomes a little more tame, you can carefully hold him in a towel and trim his nails. Be careful, because there's a blood vessel inside of their nails. It's usually visible, but if your parakeet has dark colored nails, it may be harder to see. Never, ever cut it, or your bird will start bleeding. It's a good idea to have some styptic powder (available at most pet stores) on hand in case there's an accident. It will make the blood clot. Remember, usually you only need to cut the very end of the nail. Use the link that I'm using as a source for some tips on trimming your bird's nails. Good luck!
