Yes, that certainly will be hooch. Another option would be to make what we call a blow off tube. Get a tube large enough to snugly fit into the mouth of the bottle, run this down the outside into a bucket of sanitizer (starsan, bleach and water solution, whatever you like). This acts like as an airlock. You know if your goal is just alcohol you might as well get rid of the kool aid. You really only need sugar, water, and yeast. Your instructions probably say bread yeast. I would suggest using some decent yeast. You probably have a homebrew store near you where you can buy some brewers yeast, wine yeast, or possibly even turbo yeast. Let's say around 50 bottles per pound. I'm not counting the cap, retaining ring or label. I need to get some scales and weigh one bottle. So regarding redemption that is $400 back to you.
