How Much Does A Cartilage Piercing Hurt

How much does a cartilage piercing hurt?

I've gotten mine pierced twice because the first time it got infected. But, no, it didn't really hurt. They just make a dot with the marker, then they use a gun to punch the hole. I didn't hear it at all, I just heard the gun click. And, it burns afterwards for a bit, and could be sore for some months. I couldn't sleep on that ear for a couple of weeks. But all in all, it was worth it.

It will probably feel the same as your other cartilage piercing...but everyone's pain tolerance and experience with piercings is going to be different so there is no telling what it will be like for you.

Please do some research and do not get pierced with a piercing gun. Your piercing will hurt a lot less and heal a lot easier if you get it done the proper way.

When done properly, they take around 4-6 months to completely heal...with the gun it will probably take longer.

I got mine done today, on the left. I personally thought it looked better on that side, but each person has a different personal taste. (:

I'm the biggest chicken ever when it comes to needles & just the thought of piercing freaked me out. But I've always thought it looked cute & wanted to get it done, so I finally did today! It did not hurt AT ALL. I was expecting pain, & it literally just happened so quickly, I didn't feel a thing. I can't recommend it enough. If you want it, GET IT! (:

I was told healing lasts from 6 to 8 months, maybe up to a year. So far it hasn't hurt but of course it's just the first day, so I can't speak for the future. I don't think it'll be too bad though. (: You'll love it once you get it!

How much does a cartilage piercing hurt from 1 to 10?

Everyone has a different pain scale, but for me, it was about a 4.5. I got a helix piercing, but it could be worse if you chose to get a rook or a daith, which are a little more sensitive. In reality, it only hurts during the minute the needle is going through, and when the piercer is putting in the jewelry, which is a fast process. And afterwards, you’ll have a cute new piercing!

If the way the piercing will feel is your greatest focus, then you might not be ready for it. Far more relevant is whether you have the savvy and financial resources to locate and go to a qualified professional, and the patience to provide appropriate aftercare for it during the subsequent months of healing. It is far more likely to be more painful should you let someone pierce it who is unprofessional (including someone with a gun—even if you pay for the service).I’ve had piercees say that it is just a 1, others would say 50, and some might say higher. BUT, if you go to a skillful piercer, the procedure will be very brief—a matter of moments. And, the sensation of getting pierced should begin to fade as soon as your jewelry is in place. For a few minutes afterward you might experience burning, stinging, or warmth—and a sense of accomplishment, of course. In the end you may perceive nothing more serious discomfort.Pain is a very charged topic, and because it is subjective, even the most in-depth discussion leaves much to the imagination. Many people are concerned about being able to tolerate the pain they expect to feel during a piercing. This dread is a common reason people decide against getting one, even when they truly want it.It is much easier to endure an instantaneous pain than one that continues for an extended period of time. The brief sensation experienced as a “pinch” can turn into “stabbed by an ice pick” at the hands of a less accomplished piercer, so choose wisely!

What should you do if your cartilage piercing hurts? How can it be treated?

How old is the piercing?Cartilage piercings are a little tricky - they take forever to 100% completely heal.. I mean sometimes even over a year for it to be completely healed, especially your ear cartilage.I've had mine for over a decade, and if I sleep on it wrong, or get hit (training martial arts) it'll  still get hurt and be painful for a while. There isn't any real treatment, I'd say. If it's a newer piercing, I'd say keep an eye out for infection. Antibiotics will help with that, but if it's more or less healed and painful from being snagged or irritated, really, all you can do is wait it out.

How much does it hurt to get your cartilage pierced?

Thanks for the A2A!  You've got some good responses.  I'll just add my two cents.Pain is highly relative.  Some people will say something hurt a great deal, and some will say it barely hurt at all.  Cartilage ear piercings hurt a little more than lobe piercings.  If you've had your lobes pierced, think of the cartilage  piercing hurting just a little more.  It's a sharp, quick pinch that turns into dull ache. There are definitely more painful things.  The nose hurts a little more.  Having suffered some mishaps and ouches, and being a sufferer of chronic pain, I'll make a few comparisons.  Cartilage piercings hurt more than a shot, but less than a bad cut.  The ache is far less than the ache of wisdom tooth removal, but more than jamming your finger (without bones breaking). In general, cartilage piercings are one of the least painful body mods.  Long story short: If you aren't good with pain, it's going to hurt.  If you are, it'll hurt less.  The best way to limit the pain is to be pierced by a professional piercer, and without the gun.  The piercing needle makes a clean, neat cut.  The gun rips your flesh.  Having been through both, I vote for the needle.  It is by far safer, too.  Take an ibuprofen and Tylenol (paracetamol) 20 minutes before getting pierced.  Both control the pain, the ibuprofen helps with swelling.Good luck!

On a scale from 1-10 how much does a cartilage piercing hurt?

It really depends because people have different sensitivity levels in different areas (for example a friend of mine who has a high pain tolerance thought it was very painful and myself, who has a relatively low pain tolerance, hardly felt it)
On average, I've gathered a mean of 7-8/10
but the pain is very momentary. It will only hurt when the needle goes in, after that it's just a bit sensitive and will only hurt if you knock it (so try not to sleep on it) :)

On a scale of 1-10 how much does a cartilage piercing hurt?

For me, the pain was about a 4 out of ten. It does hurt more than a lobe piercing because cartilage is like thin bone (and it will take a lot longer to heal as well) but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I didn't even flinch or close my eyes. It's like a hard pinch. Before I had mine done (i have long nails, keep this in mind for a moment) I gave myself a hard pinch on the top of my ear to simulate how it would feel (don't do this RIGHT before lol.) and when I got it pierced, it felt very similar to that. You'll feel the needle going through your skin and then you'll peel it popping out the other said (apparently some people hear a crunch, although I never did but I felt it). I didn't really feel her put the jewelry in, so clearly that doesn't really hurt. It probably won't be sore for the first couple of days. Mine wasn't (but it felt warm) but it did get sore eventually, however that will go away. I've had mine pierced for 9 months and it's still a little sensitive, but I also just changed the jewelry for the first time. I can fold my ear down and it doesnt hurt, but I recall trying to do that did hurt the first few months. SO it will heal slowly but surely. Try not to change the jewelry for at least 6 months (as this is the minimum healing time) and not at all if it still hurts. Good luck, it's so worth it :)
