How Much Is To Fix My Differential Dodge Ram

Dodge ram rear differential compatibility?

Any salvage yard desiring to stay in business will tell you what rear end you need.

Check the rear axle for a metal tag under one of the cover bolts, that will have the rear axle ratio stamped on it, I can only assume these tags are still in use.

Open the hood and look for a sticker stating engine size, transmission type, and rear axle ratio, again I assume this sticker is still used.

There's a possibility a sticker on the door frame of the cab may have this info as well, you will find tire sizes, VIN, GVWR, etc. info here.

The rear axle ratio must be compatible with the front end ratio if the truck is a 4x4, i.e. 3.55 rear ratio, 3.54 front ratio.

I've heard rear ends grind, clang and make other loud metallic sounds, this is usually the ring/pinion gear missing a tooth or two, axle bearings will often squeak a short time before they weld themselves into a metal mass, U-joints will make various noises sometimes a squeak, a fluttering sound along with a slight vibration if joint is bad enough, or soft clunk.

What kind of Differential oil do i use in my Dodge Ram?

If you cannot ffind or obtain the Mopar limited slip oil from a local dodge dealer, you can also use Royal Purpul Synthethetic, it has the limited slip additives already in it, and you can use it in both diffs. good luck

How much should it cost for fixing rear differential leak in a 2002 Dodge Ram? The mechanic said something about an axle and pinion.

If the diff is leaking at axle pinion seal, then yes he’s right, it takes about , 1 hour to do that seal. The seal is 11 dollars , however if it’s leaking at the centre of the diff cover and coming out the bottom or side or it’s rusted then it’s about .8 of an hour Job to do. However , the Chrysler Shark piss( additive ) that goes in there is pretty expensive. Insist it’s used or buy it yourself from Mopar , exactly what it’s rated for…. Believe me , it makes a huge difference on your rear end. What I’m trying to say here is that if the mechanic is saying this is some kind of a huge job … it’s not, …. the hardest part of the whole job is getting the bolts off the driveshaft yolk. I usually heat them with a small torch individually so I don’t overheat the universal joint.

What is the cost to repair a rear differential on a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500?

Differential Repair Costs:Joined with a couple of long periods of work required for their replacement, the average back differential expense of fix is somewhere in the range of $200 and $400.In the event that gears are required, that number hops a cluster. differential fixes that incorporate another rigging set might be $1,500 or considerably higher among parts and the work to supplant them. These are the most costly car parts out there. As should be obvious, a broken differential can be exorbitant.for more information click here

How much does a rear differential cost to get replaced?

As everyone here says, you dont give enough info to answer accurately. To start though, for every model car there has been published a suggested time for a competent mechanic in a shop to r+r (remove and replace) or otherwise service all the parts in a car, that information also gets collected and put into aftermarket books available online. You can start by calling a dealer for the car you have and asking the book time to do the job- that will be a number of hours- that you multiply by the hourly rate to get a cost. I see 4 hrs mentioned, that is by no means standard across all models! As differential gears usually last the life of a car, buying the assembly used is likely a reasonable option, swapping out the whole unit is usually a much less technically demanding job that can be accomplished by casual mechanics, correctly assembling and shimming the internal gears should be done by an experienced shop.I see some have answered assuming it is a solid axle car, lots of modern cars have IRS (independent rear suspension), so the hours of required labor needed are all over the place.

How to change differential fluid in 2001 Dodge Dakota?

go buy 3 quarts of 75W90 gear oil and a can of brake cleaner, a tube of RTV silicone or the actual cover gasket.
(you may need to get a tube of friction modifier if you have a limited slip differential)

place a pan under the differential.

remove the bolts holding the cover.

pry up on the cover with a screwdriver and remove the cover
while the gear lube is draining out of the differential clean the cover up and the mating surface of the diff.

now spray down the inside of the differential with brake cleaner, cleaning out the gunk inside after it falls to the bottom of the differential.
spin the gears by hand and inspect them for any missing teeth. if there are teeth missing, you need to have the axle regeared.

now if you got the gasket, reinstall the cover, pull the plug in the cover and squeeze the gear oil in, the proper fill technique is to fill it till it starts to flow over the fill hole, and then replace the plug.

if you DID NOT get the gasket, take your silicone and squeeze a bead on the lip of the cover, making sure to do a loop around the bolt holes, let the silicone set up for 15 minutes or so and then reinstall the cover.

also a rear end cant slip, its not a transmission, its gear driven.

and
synchromesh is a GM manual trans fluid, do not use that.

How much does it cost to replace a rear differential?

Depending on the car it can cost around 8 thousand for the differential gears. If the housing is having any damage too then you might need a new axle altogether. Labor charges also vary depending on where you get the work done. Differential will also need lubricating oil between half liter, to one liter. The cost of differential oil is not added in the above estimate. Carworkz.com will help you find the right workshop for your needs.

How much does it cost to repair the rear differential on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

How much does it cost to repair the rear differential on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee? As Travis Schlitz says in his answer, it depends why it's broken. A differential has many parts. Is it a seal, bearing(s), shaft, ring, pinion, carrier, spider gears, something else? You could be looking at very easy and inexpensive or you could be looking at thousands. If thousands, go to a junkyard, find the same model, year and gear ratio, rip it out, service it and do a swap.

How serious is a differential pinion seal leaking gear lube on a vehicle?

Pinion seals on the rear differential really should not leak that much. You should have the vehicle looked ASAP. You may also have rear axle seals that leaking also. Do not drive the Liberty too long with low fluid. Rear differential carrier and pinion bearing are very expensive to replace. Rear pinion seals usually run about $130.00 or so. They are easily changed in about an hour.

Can someone tell me what spider gears in rear differential are?

My daugther has an 89 camero that makes a whirling sound in the back end when u drive it. We just bought it and I found some old paper work in the glove box and it says spider gears in rear differential are worn and making noise, need to replace gears and all bearings. Is this going to be expensive to do and is the car still ok to drive?
