The rear axle ratio must be compatible with the front end ratio if the truck is a 4x4, i.e. 3.55 rear ratio, 3.54 front ratio. I've heard rear ends grind, clang and make other loud metallic sounds, this is usually the ring/pinion gear missing a tooth or two, axle bearings will often squeak a short time before they weld themselves into a metal mass, U-joints will make various noises sometimes a squeak, a fluttering sound along with a slight vibration if joint is bad enough, or soft clunk.

However , the Chrysler Shark piss( additive ) that goes in there is pretty expensive. Insist it’s used or buy it yourself from Mopar , exactly what it’s rated for…. Believe me , it makes a huge difference on your rear end. What I’m trying to say here is that if the mechanic is saying this is some kind of a huge job … it’s not, …. the hardest part of the whole job is getting the bolts off the driveshaft yolk. (you may need to get a tube of friction modifier if you have a limited slip differential) place a pan under the differential. remove the bolts holding the cover. pry up on the cover with a screwdriver and remove the cover while the gear lube is draining out of the differential clean the cover up and the mating surface of the diff. now spray down the inside of the differential with brake cleaner, cleaning out the gunk inside after it falls to the bottom of the differential. spin the gears by hand and inspect them for any missing teeth. if there are teeth missing, you need to have the axle regeared. now if you got the gasket, reinstall the cover, pull the plug in the cover and squeeze the gear oil in, the proper fill technique is to fill it till it starts to flow over the fill hole, and then replace the plug. if you DID NOT get the gasket, take your silicone and squeeze a bead on the lip of the cover, making sure to do a loop around the bolt holes, let the silicone set up for 15 minutes or so and then reinstall the cover. also a rear end cant slip, its not a transmission, its gear driven. and synchromesh is a GM manual trans fluid, do not use that.
